A Kodak industrial facility in New York, was home to a secret nuclear reactor containing weapons-grade uranium. The research reactor was housed in an underground labyrinth in one of the buildings at the former Kodak Park site in Rochester and was the size of a fridge. Kodak used it to check chemicals and other materials for impurities, as well

There's been lots of infighting and problems among Free Republic members lately. Some of the 'warring factions' are the ABO voters versus the NoRomney crowd; and the Mormon attackers versus the Mormom defenders.I have taken the liberty of rewriting the 12 Traditions of AA a little, to apply them to a deeply political forum such as ours. The 12 Traditions have helped AA stay together no matter how much cabal-ing, clique-ing, and politic-ing (in Alocholics Anonymous) have happened over the decades. Those Traditions are battle tested in real life. We might look at them to keep our organization on the...

A new independent poll shows that surging State Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine has taken the lead in the Nebraska Republican Senate race. The automated poll by We Ask America which does not allow voters to declare themselves as undecideds shows Fischer at 39 percent, Jon Bruning at 34 percent and Don Stenberg at 18, with the remaining votes split between the other three candidates in the race. The poll of "likely" Republican voters included a sample of 1,109. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The Omaha World Herald also indicated Sunday it appears any of...

President Obama and singer Ricky Martin bonded at a fundraiser today in New York over their mutual support for gay marriage. "We admire his courage, like the courage he showed last week in affirming his belief in marriage equality," the pooler quotes Martin, an openly-gay musician famous for hits such as "Livin' la vida loca," as saying when he introduced Obama at a fundraiser today. "That is the kind of courage we expect from our presdient and that is why we support him."

Obama to Graduates: Don’t Believe the Media By CNSNews.com Staff May 14, 2012 (CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama pointed a finger at the news media today when he gave the commencement address at all-female Barnard College in New York City, attributing some of the blame for what he described as a lack of faith in American institutions on news reports that focus on “sensationalism” and “scandal” and carry “a message that change isn’t possible." In a survey conducted last September, Gallup discovered that 47 percent of Americans believe the media is "too liberal" while only 13 percent believe it is...

A Metro Police dog entered a backyard Monday morning with a clear mission: Corner the suspect hiding out back there. When the suspect attempted to flee, the dog stayed true to its mission and bolted over the backyard wall right behind the suspect. And that’s where the mission fell apart. In an apparent state of confusion, the dog bit a patrol officer on the other side of the wall, prompting another officer to shoot the dog. Police said the incident unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. Monday when a man called 911 and reported his male friend was “acting erratically with...

Hardball anchor Chris Matthews, who routinely smears his political opponents as racist, on Monday lectured an African American minister who opposes gay marriage, "I hope you evolve." The host patronizingly added, "I'm just teasing." How would he (or MSNBC for that matter) react if a conservative said such a thing to a black leader? Matthews interviewed Bishop Harry Jackson, who has spoken out against Barack Obama's endorsement of gay marriage. Speaking of Jesus Christ, Matthews ridiculously linked accusations that Mitt Romney once bullied a teen, nearly 50 years ago: "Do you think [Christ] would have been chasing after the kid...

After Decade, Message of Tolerance Comes to Jewish Museum After a decade hidden from view, one of the most important documents in American history is set to burst back onto public display, the Forward has learned. George Washington’s 1790 letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island, in which the first president vowed that America would give “to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance,” will form the centerpiece of a special show at the National Museum of American Jewish History, opening on June 29. Ivy Barsky, the NMAJH’s director and chief operating officer, said she was “absolutely thrilled”...

In 2008, the mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and his four co-defendants said they wanted to plead guilty and requested to be executed. They bragged about killing 2,976 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, so the only question now is whether the world will get a trial that accomplishes enough to justify delaying their wish to be executed. The first step toward a trial began earlier this month at a chaotic arraignment by the military commission in Guantanamo Bay. Those who hoped these proceedings would remind the world of the deeds and...

The term "disinformation" is derived from the old Soviet Union: Disinformation is mostly commonly described as false information created by governments in wartime for military purposes and by totalitarian governments for political purposes in peacetime. Rumors, lies, and other forms of disinformation were made public by the Soviet Union to discredit the United States, the latter being the context in which the word is generally applied. The KGB coined the Russian word dezinformatsiya; it came into the English language as disinformation. The technique of disinformation goes back at least to 1918 with the end of World War I. Disinformation as...

President Obama was the commencement speaker Monday at Barnard College, the women's college in New York. "While opportunities for women have grown exponentially over the last 30 years, as young people in many ways you have it even tougher than we did. This recession has been more brutal, the job losses steeper," Obama said. CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod reports that is why today half of recent college graduates can't find full-time jobs. Jihan Forbes got good grades and a degree two years ago. The only thing she didn't get was a full-time job. "They said, 'You get a degree,...

A federal judge on Monday struck down new regulations governing union elections, saying the National Labor Relations Board did not follow proper voting procedures when it approved the rules last year. U.S. District Judge James Boasberg said the board never had a quorum when it voted on the rules that speed up the pace of union representation elections. He did not address the merits of the rules and said the NLRB could simply take a new vote to approve them. Business groups and Republicans had vigorously challenged the rules, which took effect April 30, claiming they didn't give company managers...

Near the end of the competitive part of the recent Republican presidential primary season, Gov. Mitt Romney began showing growing support among evangelical voters. The Mormon had been losing that influential portion of the GOP base by lopsided proportions. Not anymore. Thank you, Barack Obama. As his nomination in August became clear, the contrast between Romney's family life and moral convictions and those of his Democrat opponent became starkly clear, no more so than following President Obama's forced flip last week to supporting gay marriage, following an alleged push by Vice President Joe Biden. Obama's move was wildly popular among...

I’m a 30-year-old black woman who’s proudly a virgin. Living in America, in 2012, I might be seen as a triple-minority. Some think I’m missing out, depriving myself, allowing my personal and religious beliefs to stifle the passions of my soul. It’s no wonder people think that way. Our culture is sex-saturated. When I was in high school, the MTV reality show “The Real World” was about people of different genders, races, and political and spiritual beliefs living together in hopes to challenge stereotypes and develop authentic friendships. Now the show’s more about how many attractive people can get drunk...

Despite endorsing Obama in 2008, JFK’s daughter Caroline now considers Obama a “liar,” according to a family source in Edward Klein’s new book on Obama called “The Amateur.” Caroline’s past support for Obama, which was mirrored by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, caused a riff in the family. In fact, Klein writes of an incident where Bobby Kennedy Jr. got in his uncle Ted‘s face over Ted’s support for the president. Some of the Kennedy’s diminishing support for the president is due to the Obamas snubbing several members of the Kennedy family on multiple occasions — one that sent Ethel...

There is much speculation that the proposed accord with Rome and the SSPX will result in two radical factions leaving the SSPX. The two groups are the French faction of the SSPX, noted by their devotion to the ideology of Charles Maurras and represented by Bishop Tissier de Mallerais, and the fascist faction of the SSPX, represented by Bishop Richard Williamson. While this event would have the good result of removing the extremists from the SSPX before its reunification with Rome, I am not certain this will occur. It is very possible that these radicals will come into the established...
