Poll shows surging Fischer in the lead (Nebraska update)

A new independent poll shows that surging State Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine has taken the lead in the Nebraska Republican Senate race.

The automated poll by We Ask America which does not allow voters to declare themselves as undecideds shows Fischer at 39 percent, Jon Bruning at 34 percent and Don Stenberg at 18, with the remaining votes split between the other three candidates in the race.

The poll of "likely" Republican voters included a sample of 1,109. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The Omaha World Herald also indicated Sunday it appears any of the three major candidates can win. But the World Herald also indicated that Fischer appears to be the candidate surging to the detriment of the two early front-runners Attorney General Jon Bruning and State Treasurer Don Stenberg.

Bruning maintained during a visit to Gering Saturday that despite a drop in the polls, he is comfortable with his position.

Fischer's rise comes after endorsements by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, plus support from former Omaha businessman Joe Ricketts, whose political action group spent $200,000 on a television blitz, hammering Bruning on ethical questions and touting Fischer.

It would appear that this is the same woman that Sarah Palin endorsed not too long ago. This does bode well for a Tea-Party fueled takeover of the Senate this coming November.

This is one amazing surge and while the TEA Party endorsed another candidate, they will no doubt find Deb Fischer to be completely acceptable.

Many thanks to Sarah Palin for helping to make this happen!!!

I’ll be voting for her tomorrow.

Jon Bruning’s letter to Congress strongly urging the confirmation of Eric Holder as Attorney General makes him an absolute no-go for me. If Fischer has a better chance than Stenberg then Fischer it is.

We have GOT to reclaim the rule of law in this country, and it can’t be done when the wolf is guarding the henhouse. Eric Holder’s entire job is to make sure that nobody prosecutes Obama’s buddies for the crimes they are routinely committing. He is a man of utter lawlessness, and anybody who supported him just because he’s black is a pandering idiot who is willing to sell this country down the river for political gain. Time to get some people who genuinely care about the rule of law and the accountability that makes America different than third-world banana republics like the one where Obama was most likely born.

“I’ll be voting for her tomorrow.”

That’s great to hear. I hope you get your friends and relatives to do the same.

I dropped off the radar for a while and still trying to decide between Fischer and Stenberg. I have yet to study all the candidates. I’ll cram tonight.

Good move. Deb Fischer has clearly caught up with Jon Bruning and we need to prevent him from winning the primary.

My wife and I have known Don Stenberg for about 20 years, although we haven’t seen him, face-to-face in a few years. My memory is that he was a very conservative guy. I wonder how Fisher got the “Palin nod” over Stenberg. Obviously, the woman must be a pretty solid conservative. Hope that if she wins she can pick that seat up and vote as a solid conservative in the Senate. We need it.

The endorsement gave her (I'm pretty sure on May 8)this last bump, great timing.

Last week someone described Stenberg as a consistent 20% guy, that just wasn't a good statewide candidate. His politics sure seem solid.

I sure wish I could hear the guys at KFAB talk about this. I’m sure Gary and Jim have already covered it. But I like Gary’s perspective, a lot. And he knows “the players”.

Oh well, I’m not a Nebraska voter anymore, anyway. When they set up that that “Board of Equalization” I got my sights set on moving southward pretty fast.

Hope so.

Yes, very much so. She was completely overshadowed by Stenberg and Bruning, but now she’s surging and has overtaken Stenberg.

Gary was the only person on KFAB who showed any sense when Nebraska’s Eligibility Bill was being considered. It was so bad with Scott Voorhees and the fast-talking guy in the afternoon (it’s been so long since I listened to KFAB that I can’t even remember his name) that my apolitical friend and her son both wondered what was up with them. Since then I just can’t stomach listening to KFAB any more. Even knowing that they were threatened by Fox into acting like jerks, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Fischer moving ahead of Stenberg even before the endorsement and her being a “mama grizzly” might have something to do with it.

In any event Stenberg appears to be a wasted vote at this point so conservatives need to vote for Fischer.

In other news that clown Kerrey has came out for queer marriage, indicating he isn’t even gonna bother to try and win.
