The majority of potential Army reservists are either hooked on prescription drugs, have too many tattoos, are overweight or have mental conditions that prohibit them from joining the military, recruiters say.
Seven out of 10 applicants who return to their civilian lives after training, but can be called into active service at any time fail to meet Army Reserve standards for on mental, physical and other grounds, said Capt. Eric Connor, U.S. Army Reserve Command spokesman.
The problem affects the broader service as well. According to Army Recruiting Command statistics compiled last year, 71 percent of young people wanting to join the military would fail to pass service tests because of their physical, moral or cognitive shortcomings.

Even though the United States Army, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force are the greatest fighting forces ever assembled on earth, the dumbing down, drug-prescribed, popular culture indoctrinated American public is watering down our Military recruitment population.
You know I'm not talking about you true, American patriots, but I am talking about the Hopey, Changey loser parents among us who raise these drug induced children that are suppose to fill our Military's ranks.
God help America!

Yeah. And then the good ones who are fit and do serve are treated like crap.
Who will bring back the draft? Probably a Republican.
‘....physical, moral or cognitive shortcomings.’
What moral short comings? Unwilling to become Homosexual?

I wouldn’t allow my sons to ‘serve’ in a Homosexual army. “f” em they wanted in, let them fight the wars.
If your school has a good ROTC program sign them up, best bunch of kids in the school.
Being a sexual pervert with a couple of duffel bags full of mental issues is okay though, right?
The situation is not good, but in fact part of this is BUDGETARY:
When the economy is bad and the Army has little money, it makes sense for them to tighten standards up, this way they get to kick people out.
Tattoos and flab are a major way of doing that.
They’re trying to get to the numbers they’re more comfortable with.
When the economy is rich and also the Army has rich funding they’ll loosen things up (but in my opinion that won’t happen for quite awhile).
Active Duty/Retiree ping.

Michelle Obama has new warning on obesity
Dec 13 2010
First Lady Michelle Obama plans to warn in remarks Monday that the nation is seeing a groundswell of support for curbing childhood obesity, and she is unveiling new ammunition from current and retired military leaders.
[M]ilitary leaders tell us that when more than one in four young people are unqualified for military service because of their weight, the first lady says in prepared remarks, childhood obesity isnt just a public health threat, its not just an economic threat, its a national security threat as well."
...and the people who are fit don’t want to join under this commander in thief...
It occurs to me that there are a lot of stories lately about how the military cannot get the requisite personnel.
It seems to me that it’s really calling for a draft.
Hi JJ, how’s the weather up north?
We broke +32 today! Roads are a mess. But, I like the warmer weather.
...and the people who are fit dont want to join under this commander in thief
The ones that like him are the ones not qualified.....lol. I ALMOST would put good money on me being right.
I always thought we sent our best and brightest young men and women off to war to die and then those that couldn’t make the cut stayed home and were left to procreate.
“Who will bring back the draft? Probably a Republican.”
The draft was ended by Republican President Richard M. Nixon in January 1973. The draft was opposed by the wealthy elites who fund both political parties and did not want their children serving in the unpopular Vietnam War. Once the selective service system had been shifted from local draft boards selecting draftees and giving deferrals, to a national lottery, the wealthy and politically connected could no longer easily shield their children from service. Hence the decision to end compulsory service.
Today the only prominent politician calling for reinstatement of the draft is Democrat Congressman Charles Rangel. Not only has Rangel been speaking out strongly in favor of both a draft and a war tax, he introduced legislation to reinstate the draft in the Republican controlled House of Representatives in 2013 where it died.
I’m not a Rangel fan on most issues but on this one he is right. The wealthy elites have effectively opted out of military service for their children resulting in the poor and low income people of all races being disproportionately represented in the military. Meanwhile, it is the wealthy and privileged who make the decisions to send the military into harms way. If their children were on the front lines, decisions with respect to deploying and supporting the military would likely be made differently.
I also agree with Rangel on the war tax. During the second half of the 20th century, and first years of this century, the US government has started or intervened in countless expensive wars and conflicts around the globe using borrowed money. If war is necessary, it should be paid for by taxing the citizens electing the politicians deciding to intervene militarily around the planet, not by simply adding the bill to the perpetual deficit.
War is a serious matter and if a nation goes to war all of its citizens should bear the cost in blood and money. If the citizens aren’t willing to pay the price, the nation should not go to war. I suspect our founding fathers, who warned about “foreign entanglements” would strongly agree.
Require the President to obtain a declaration of war from Congress before using military force against other nations (this includes drone attacks), put the sons and daughters of Wall Street executives on the front lines, and stick a 10% “war tax” income tax surcharge on all taxpayers when the nation is engaged in hostile acts with its military, and the foreign policy of this nation would be conducted very differently.
No Republican of the McCain, Romney, Bush, Rove, McConnell, and Boehner generation is going to support a military draft or a war tax. They are leaders of the party of no accountability.
Patriotic, God-fearing, Gun-loving, straight heterosexuals need not apply as they have too much baggage to fit in...
