Explanation: The night side of Pluto spans this shadowy scene. In
the stunning spacebased perspective the Sun is 4.9 billion kilometers (almost 4.5 light-hours) behind the dim and distant world. It was captured by far flung New Horizons in July of 2015 when the spacecraft was at a range of some 21,000 kilometers from Pluto, about 19 minutes after its closest approach. A denizen of the Kuiper Belt in dramatic silhouette, the image also reveals Pluto's tenuous, surprisingly complex layers of hazy atmosphere. Near the top of the frame the crescent twilight landscape includes southern areas of nitrogen ice plains...

|
|
Media Take Out ^
| November 6, 2024 | [social_warfare]
Details over last night’s Kamala Harris loss to controversial presidential candidate Donald Trump are slowly coming out. Media
Take Out spoke with multiple people close with the Kamala Harris campaign who told us that the reason Kamala didn’t speak to people last night is because she had an “emotional breakdown.” Late last night it became clear that Kamala Harris would not win the presidency, as Kamala and her close team watched election results in her home at the Vice Presidents mansion in Washington DC. Kamala was scheduled to travel to Howard University after the election, to celebrate a win. But...

A space rocket program manager butchered her father with an ice axe on Election Night after a breakdown following President-elect Trump’s victory — and was found smiling and clapping covered in her loved one’s blood, cops said. Corey
Burke considered the bloody rampage – in which she allegedly strangled, bit and hacked her 67-year-old father in the $800,000 Seattle home they shared – to be an “act of liberation,” charging documents allege. Burke, 33, is a training program manager at Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ spacecraft company, according to her LinkedIn, and is married to prominent transgender writer Samantha Leigh Allen,...

The Biggest Losers On Election Night Were The Obamas
|
|
The Federalist ^
| November 11, 2024 | Helen Raleigh
About a week before the final day of the election, The Wall Street Journal published an editorial titled, “A Harris Victory Means the Fourth Term of Obama.” Although Kamala Harris failed her bid for the U.S. presidency spectacularly on Tuesday, the biggest losers of the 2024 election were the Obamas. No one
has had more influence on the Democrat Party in the last decade than the Obamas. The Democrat Party used to be a place working-class Americans called home. It was sympathetic to kitchen-table issues such as how soaring crime and food and gas prices affected ordinary Americans’ quality of...

Harris surrogate gives firsthand account of the ‘epic disaster’ of election night loss to Trump

Fox News.com ^
| 11/9/2024 | Gabriel Hays
DNC National Finance Committee member and Harris campaign fundraiser Lindy Li analyzed what went wrong with Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign that led to the "epic disaster" against President-elect Donald Trump this week. Li
told Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Will Cain on Saturday that multiple factors doomed the campaign in her opinion, including Biden’s choice for Harris to be his successor, the Harris campaign’s overconfidence in their polling data, and former President Obama’s delay in endorsing the vice president as the Democratic candidate. "The truth is, this is just an epic disaster – this is a $1 billion disaster,"...

Astronomy Picture of the Day - Neptune at Night

Explanation: Ice giant Neptune is faint in Earth's night sky. Some
30 times farther from the Sun than our fair planet, telescopes are needed to catch a glimpse of the dim and distant world. This dramatic view of Neptune's night just isn't possible for telescopes in the vicinity of planet Earth though. Peering out from the inner Solar System they can only bring Neptune's day side into view. In fact this night side image with Neptune's slender crescent next to the crescent of its large moon Triton was captured by Voyager 2. Launched from planet Earth in 1977 the Voyager...

Last Night’s Pogrom in Amsterdam

The Free Press ^
| 8 Nov 2024 | David de Bruijn
Israeli soccer fans were ambushed, beaten, and pleaded with their assailants: “not Jewish, not Jewish.” I grew up in the Netherlands. I wasn’t surprised. As the Amsterdam Jewish community joined with local officials to commemorate the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht at the city’s Portuguese-Jewish synagogue—established by Jews who escaped the Inquisition—a pogrom was
taking place outside. Following a soccer match between the Dutch club Ajax and the visiting Maccabi Tel Aviv, Jewish and Israeli fans of the visiting club were ambushed and beaten in the city’s streets and alleys. Footage shows an Israeli soccer fan being struck by a car, cartwheeling...

not what Kamala Harris did when she lost the presidency. She jumped ship on Election Night, leaving her supporters adrift in a sea of liberal tears. Cedric Richmond, the campaign co-chair, was trotted out to speak on her behalf. On social media, election hawks said she'll go down in history as the "Coward of Howard."

What you didn’t hear about on election night: The other 43 states

The pattern is clear, though the numbers may be slightly different when the final results are available. The
state with the biggest Trump percentage increase was his native New York (6.9%), followed by California (5.6%), New Jersey (5.3%), Maryland (5.1%), Florida (5.0%), Illinois (4.9%), Connecticut (4.6%), and Texas (4.3%). They include the four highest-population states. All eight of them have large immigrant and Hispanic populations. The CNN exit poll reported that Trump lost Latino voters to Harris by only a 53 to 45% margin, a historic high percentage for a Republican and one that lays to rest Democratic analysts’ hopes...

The liberal late-night hosts put their post-election meltdowns on full display Wednesday evening less than 24 hours after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon greeted their shows with similar rehearsed acts — putting on a fake smile and lamenting about
the terrible night they had because of Trump’s win. “I spent a lot of time over the past 17 hours thinking about what I would say tonight, or even if there is anything to say tonight, and there’s nothing, goodnight everybody,” Kimmel said walking off the stage.

Unexpectedly, news outlets wind up having a relatively traditional election night experience
|
|
The Associated Press ^
| November 6, 2024 | BY DAVID BAUDER
For all the concerns about a tumultuous process that could leave Americans waiting for days to learn who its next president would be, news outlets instead experienced an election night that hewed close to tradition. Fox
News Channel was the first to declare Donald Trump had reclaimed the presidency at 1:47 a.m. on Wednesday. Other television networks and The Associated Press had Trump on the precipice of returning to presidency when he took the stage in Florida at 2:25 a.m. to declare victory. “This is, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time,” Trump said onstage at his victory...

10 Takeaways From the Night Trump Marched Back to the White House -- NY Times
|
|
NY TIMES ^
| Reporting from Madison, Wis. Nov. 6, 2024, | Reid J. Epstein
America’s democracy will again be put the test, and its government will veer sharply to the right. Kamala
Harris and Democrats were dealt stunning defeats across the country. Americans have voted former President Donald J. Trump back into the nation’s highest office four years after he fomented a riot at the Capitol to try to block his removal from power. His election is likely to again place the country’s democracy under enormous stress. For the last decade, he has demonstrated that he has little regard for the checks and balances that have defined American government since the dawn of the...
