In my mom’s Catholic church, the pastor opened up communion to basically everybody, with specific mention of practicing gays and divorced and remarried Catholics.
The apostles were given communion by Jesus himself at the last supper, I trust His judgement.

An aside - having wine and bread was a pretty ordinary - everyday event. I understand the reasons that we have turned it into a Holy Sacrament - and it is. BUT - I also bet that Jesus was saying “EVERY time you guys get together and eat - remember me.”

During Benedict XVI pontificate this pastor would be defrocked and run out of town. This is rank heresy. Only those who believe in the Eucharist and whose serious sins have been absolved may receive communion. The words of Christ cannot be any clearer in John 6:53 “Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.”
This is the teaching of the early Church fathers and has been so for over 2000 yeas accepted by scholars, historians, theologians, saints, martyrs and even some of the leading Protestant and evangelical scholars who have converted to Catholicism. The is a fact.
Francis committed, albeit recklessly, the error, of going to Lund to “honor” Luther whom Catholics regard as a rank heretic.
I suggest you write a letter to your local Bishop about this.
They were the ORIGINAL Catholics.
