Are you, a non-priest, saying that O'brien, a Roman Catholic priest is wrong?

Get an answer yet?

Question for you? Did the Bible come from oral tradition or Holy Tradition?

Neither.

It came as men were moved by God to write it and that happened either before or very soon after the death of Christ.

They were penned or dictated by the men who lived at that time.

Roman Catholicism cannot take credit for Scripture, which is what Catholics regularly try to do on these threads.

Begrudging acknowledgement of him is how I'd call it.

I really didn’t understand the question or its purpose. It seemed like a trick question to me. Although wrote by men it is really a book from God telling us our purpose in life and where we came from and what our future is. It is a miracle we have access to it. So many tried to stifle it in the past but God had other plans.

One can be saved without communion. It is a beautiful gift but not strictly necessary to be saved.

And who are in a state of grace.

ALL who accept and proclaim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are in a state of Grace.

Read Romans.

Jesus built the church on Himself, NOT a sinful, flawed human being!

The entire premise that the Catholic church is built on Peter hinges on the misinterpretation of one line in the Bible where Jesus asks Peter who Peter says Jesus is.

Upon Peter's answer that Jesus is the Christ, Jesus proclaims on this rock, the rock of TRUTH, His church will be built.

As a former Catholic who was born, baptized, raised, attended CCD, received my first communion, confirmation and was married in the church, the only qualm I have with the Catholic church is its claim that it is the one "true" church and that those who do not belong to it are going to hell.

That is factually not true.

The book of Romans, written by the Apostle Paul tells us that Salvation is available to all, Jew and Gentile who recognize and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Son of God, our Lord and Savior.

Paul is quite clear as to who Salvation is available to. No one can deny Salvation to others simply by declaring their church as the "one true church" as the One True Church is that which belongs to Jesus Christ, not a man.

I totally agree with you! I, too, “was was born, baptized, raised, attended CCD, received my first communion, confirmation and was married in the church (the first time)”. However, I was thrown out of Catholic school in the 2nd grade because I dared to question the nuns when they taught that if you weren’t a Catholic you were going to hell. You see, I lived in a very mixed neighborhood and most of my friends were either Jewish or Protestant. When I had the temerity to question a

Sorry, accidentally hit enter. To finish: I questioned how a loving God could condemn people to Hell when they believed in another religion. They told my parents that I wasn’t welcome back the next year. When my marriage went bad, the Priest I went to for help told me that if I was a better wife my husband wouldn’t beat me.

I’m now going to a non-denominational Church that talks about a loving God and is grace-based! We believe in a relationship with God/Jesus, NOT religion. Big difference.

"Yet you seem to avoid the Catechism --- which IS authoritative --- like a wee little diablo avoids Holy Water"

You need to refrain from inferring that a poster is the devil.

Also stop telling ealgeone to read the catechism over and over again.

He has already told you he has read it.

You need to click on my name at the bottom of this post and familiarize yourself with the Religion Forum guidelines.

Thank you for this correction. I was wrong, and I apologize to ealgeone and to you. I won’t do that again.

Amen! I agree completely. I also questioned the teachings of the church as a cradle Catholic. Even at a young age, I remember knowing in my heart that something was missing.

The Lord seeks an ongoing relationship with all those who surrender to Christ in faith. It is NOT the fellowship with other believers (going to "church") that makes us God's own but we have fellowship with one another BECAUSE of our relationship with the Savior. Together we are heirs and joint heirs with each other and with Christ. It comes to us by the grace of God through faith and not of ourselves - not of works, lest any should boast.
