He was banned because his tracts are hateful, libelous, and idiotic. There’s nothing hateful, libelous, or idiotic about news of his death. Hence, your complaint about “hypocrisy” is baseless.

Actually, in reviewing his tracts, I tend to agree with you. They were hateful and idiotic. I was embarrassed, as a Christian, for the content of his tracts. They were kinda like watching Reefer Madness.

i.e. you are judging actions, not people, which is highly appropriate.

Similar comments would surely be made if Paul died today . . .

“Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16)

It is a sad thing when a man whose faithful ministry led many to come to Christ should now be vilified by so many so-called Christians.

Yes. Me too.

Jack Chick is not as simplistic as he’s made out to be. He had a lot of people hate him.

He’s taken seriously in a way he shouldn’t be and not taken seriously in ways he should.

Liberals live to hate him. So do others who like to look down their noses.

Yet there is a huge amount of Chick studies out there. On the other thread someone posted anti-Chick links and they had so much content it just showed how huge a body of work he produced that was compelling and interesting and lead to so much reproduction, analysis and discussion.

Anyhow, suffice to say that Chick is complex.

Anyhow, forget all that and read this one.

I’ve read enough of Chick’s tracts over the years to come to one conclusion:

He really hated Catholics.

I’m Catholic, but I reserve my animosity for the Marxists who want to take our religious freedom away.

People of faith, whatever that faith may be, need to put their doctrinal differences aside and present a united front against secularism enforced by the coercive power of the state.

We are facing an existential threat to our freedom of religion under the First Amendment.

Jack Chick, over a long and admittedly productive life, seems never to have figured out who Christ’s real enemies are.

imardmd1 has made some great points.

I hadn’t read the Death Cookie until last night.

That seems to be the one that bothers certain people.

That is a good one. I think where he went south was his condemnation of beliefs different from his. I mean, we all do it to one degree or another, but he made a living doing it.

I’m about as anti-catholic as you can get, while still believing some Catholics are Christian, but I have a hard time with “the death cookie” stuff. It’s kind of over the top and I don’t understand how the message can cause “positive” actions from anyone, other than a Catholic that is already thinking of leaving the church. That’s because if someone is not already thinking of leaving, they will actually bristle at his message and more closely embrace the Catholic church.

And those that hate Catholicism already can get wrapped up in this “hatred of churches not not yours” message, which Jesus clearly teaches against.

That seems to be the one that bothers certain people.

For the same reason that Hillary Clinton bothers certain people.

Certain people care about the truth. Hillary Clinton and "The Death Cookie" are full of lies. I'm quite suspicious of anybody who isn't "bothered" by Hillary Clinton or by "The Death Cookie".

I think where he went south was his condemnation of beliefs different from his.

Someone who want to go about doing that must absolutely make sure that he knows what those "different from his own" beliefs actually are. "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." One who sets up his neighbors beliefs, as a prelude to arguing against them, has an absolute moral obligation before God to get them right.

You opined, “And then I realized there was virtually nothing we agreed on.” Do you know the plan of Salvation, the Gospel of the Grace of God in Christ for immediate salvation?

“spiritual realists” ... fools rush in.

What a silly post with talk of purgatory, when we know Jack was not a Catholic!

Appreciate the link. Familiar with some of Chick’s pamphlets, but the Death Cookie was a new one to me. I can see why folks steeped in magic thinking would hate that one!
