Could you suggest any Protestant scholars who have written on the significance of feminine types in the Psalms, the Proverbs, the Prophets, and the historical books of the OT?

Do you have a list of Catholic ones?

Yes, Catholics are fond of handing out titles for which they have no authority.

Pick any Catholic printed bible (I'm looking at a Catholic Teen Bible The New American Bible) and before you get to the actual scriptures themselves; you'll find a virtual alphabet soup of titles and abbreviations for such, on the Collaborators pages.

Edtors, translators, Bishops...

My apologies -— please post an example for me to know what to avoid. I do try to keep arrogance to a minimum.

Your nerves seemed a bit frayed. Don’t be irked at the Catholics. Treat them nicely. I sometimes believe they are here to test the patience of the saints so bear with them.:-)

WVKayaker:

See Mrs. Don-o's #251 as to the "liar" claim. She is precisely correct in saying that you say things that are not true. She DID NOT claim the additional factor of moral turpitude necessary to a claim that you have lied.

I agree with her claim that much of what you say is not true but I believe that you, in good faith, do not recognize your own statements as untrue. You believe what you believe, for good or for ill. I don't really care what you THINK Scripture means. Your opinions are utterly irrelevant to my Faith and beliefs.

Elsewhere you have made the remarkable claim that I have some responsibility to argue ONLY from Scripture. I have no such responsibility to argue with you at all much less ONLY from Scripture. "Sola Scriptura" or Sola Gratia" or "Sola Fide" were the reformation standards set by Luther and I have no obligation whatsoever to submit to his non-existent authority or yours.

I believe that civility has everything to do with good manners and nothing to do with Rodney King. I frequent Free Republic because I seek POLITICAL fellowship with fellow conservatives and not to nannynag those who disagree with me or with the Catholic Faith or to be nannynagged by them.

There are secular political issues, some having religious dimensions and some not on which I seek victory. Catholics will not win on these issues on our own without the help of others who are not Catholic and they won't win without Catholics.

Here's what I'd start out with, to study feminine types in the Old Testament:

The Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute, Dayton, and in particular Father Bertrand Buby, S.M.

Taylor Marshall on "(Lady) Wisdom" in the OT

"The Past Her Prelude: Marian Imagery in the Old Testament" by Sandra Miesel

"Our Lady in Type and Prophecy in the Old Testament" by Fr. John A. Hardon

Here's some OT feminine/Marian types, just a quick overview...

And there's a lot of good OT feminine typography commented on by Scott Hahn.

"Mariology" a great anthology edited by Dr. Mark Miravalle

And here's an excerpt from that

Buby, Taylor, Meisel, Hardon, Hahn, Miravalle, I'm getting some of this downloaded on my Kindle. There's a lot: Scripture is so rich.

Good grief. Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, pray to Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary defeats Satan single-handedly, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Eve is thrown under the bus, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary. Anything feminine and positive is Mary. Whew! My Bible is a little more balanced than that. Mom is going to let Jesus have it over that snub in Matthew 12:47, 48. I guess.

I can understand why you might want a different take on it all other than by CATHOLIC scholars.

I get tired of lectures about civility from someone taking a "better than you are" attitude. Your complaints are indeed failing to impress me.

You can keep your screed because you begin from a tainted viewpoint, with allegiance to a cult. The FACT that Roman Catholicism directs you to ignore Scripture over their myth and fallacy, allowing apparitions and worship of someone besides God (don't give me the "we don't worship" junk), reveals everything about the cult. It bases itself in lies and error.

If you don't like to read my posts, don't bother to post to me! I did not start this conversation with you, and refuse to be bullied by some proselyte of evil. I believe that god has the Truth, not the roman Catholic cult, and I don't subscribe to Sola Scriptura. I subscribe to the leadings of God's Holy Spirit, and" I worship in Spirit and in Truth". I feel sorry that belonging to a group is the identity for which Roman Catholics depend. My God is much larger than that!

You need not bother to respond, as I really don't see anything but defense of a cult, which doesn't recognize Scripture as full authority... and you have made that perfectly clear!

2 Timothy 3: ... 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It doesn't say "partially!

And, finally, i will give this wisdom from Paul...

Ephesians 6: 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Amen!

I’m interested n non-Catholic scholars who have studied the feminine types in the OT. Would you like to make some recommendations?

Good grief, BipolarBob. No need to accuse me of imbalance. I was specifically *asked* for a list of Catholic authors writing about feminine typology in the OT. That request was at #263

That's why it's all about Mary. It was a specific request. If I were asked about seafood in the OT, the links would all be about finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny, finny fish.

Your concept of "Mary defeats Satan single-handedly,"

--- is not Biblical, and is not reflected in these readings. Where did you get that?

And "Eve thrown under the bus"?? By no means. The Bible says that the Lord descended into hell (by this is meant not the fiery-eternal hell of the demons, but, more generally, the abode of the dead) to save those therein, and when the Lord ascended up he "led captivity captive." I understand this to mean that everyone who died from Adam and Eve, to Christ's ascension, were given an opportunity to hear the Gospel and follow and thus receive from His merciful hands the gift of salvation.

So... hmm.... "Eve under the bus." Whee in the word did you get that??

The New Eve is also the "Virgin Mother." She is "Mother," because God speaks of her "seed," that is, of her son, and of her offspring (in the collective sense: cf. Rev 12:17): "I will put enmity … between your seed and her seed." She is Virgin, because there is not even a hint here of a husband of the "woman," who might be the father of the son of the "woman." The New Eve is Co-redemptrix as well, because this is implicit in her enmity to Satan, the very same enmity which she shares with her Son, the New Adam, Redeemer in relation to Satan’s seed: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed." Such enmity entails hard struggle and victory for the Redeemer and Co-redemptrix against the serpent: "She shall crush your head, while you shall lie in wait for her heel," God said to the serpent (16).

In the person of Mary, in fact, the second Eve will, in no manner, be imprudent and foolish as was the first Eve.

No siree, not our Blessed Mary. Co-Redemtrix? Crushing the head of the snake? Jesus is the Redeemer and He crushed the snakes head. Not our Blessed Mary. This over gushing over Mary is not in the Bible. Rev. 12 is not about Mary. There is NO example of anyone praying to Mary. I could go on and on about the mountain of literature you posted but . . . good grief.
