Archbishop of Cologne Slams Germany's Anti-Islam Party: 'Mosques are Equal to Churches'

The Catholic Archbishop of Cologne has slammed Germany's anti-Islam party, Alternative for Deutchsland (AfD).

Rainer Woelki posted a video where he ridiculed the right-wing party's claim that Islam is incompatible with the German constitution. The archbishop's intervention comes after the anti-immigration party said it would press for bans on minarets and burqas.

"Anyone who denigrates Muslims as the AfD leadership does should realise prayer rooms and mosques are equally protected by our constitution as our churches and chapels," he said.

"Whoever says 'yes' to church towers must also say 'yes' to minarets."

The AfD has grown in prominence putting pressure on the German Chancellor Angela Merkel by winning three regional elections in March.

Earlier this month AfD deputy leader Beatrix von Storch told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung: "Islam is in itself a political ideology that is not compatible with the constitution.

"We are in favour of a ban on minarets, on muezzins and a ban on full veils," added von Storch, who is a member of the European Parliament.

However the archbishop questioned whether "one really has to take the AfD seriously".

He said: "The religion of Islam is compatible with the German constitution just as Judaism or Christianity are."

He continued: "Those who question the freedom of belief and religion guaranteed by our constitution should as themselves whether they haven't left the grounds of the constitution with their fear-fanning postulations.

You know you are in deep do-do when the supposed Catholic Church (and it applies to Protestants also) do not understand the fundamental problems with Islam.
1. Christianity and Islam are NOT compatible because Islam's holiest book, the Koran, commands its believers to kill, convert, or enslave Kaffirs (Infidels).
2. Islam is more than a religion, it is a malignant ideology that is at once a “religion”, a judicial doctrine, and a political system. Moreover, it is joined at the hip with the other malignant ideology of the 20th century, National Socialism (Nazism).
3. Any churchman that falls for the trap of “what about the Crusades?” does not understand why Christianity fought the Muslims in the Middle East for 300 years. The Christians were trying to retake the former Christian lands lost to an expansionist Islam. The Christians failed and Islam continued to expand out of the Middle east to all of northern Africa, into Spain, Portugal, and southern France. 1492 was historic for two events: Columbus discovered the New World and the Spanish evicted the Muslim Moors from the Iberian peninsula after 800 years. The year 1683 marked the last gasp of expansionist Islam into Western Europe. The Ottoman Empire was defeated in the Siege of Vienna (Austria).
4. The very idea that Islam is somehow equal to any other world religions is repugnant. None of these religions has the continued 1,400+ year bloody history of Islam's war against the world. Not only the “unbelievers” have been its victims, but Muslims as well. The Sunni vs. Shi'ite feud has gone on for all these centuries and there has been no resolution. A sane person would view Islam and its followers as psychotics and their "religion" as absolute evil incarnate.
