I know a lady who is in her 80’s and on dialysis. In addition she had open heart surgery, and lost her husband of fifty years all in one year. She plays golf, goes to church, visits her family, drives around town. Shops play bridge with her group. Talk to your Dad get him to re-invest in life. There are several types of dialysis and with minimum training can be self administered. One does not feel bad after dialysis. There are people who live for 25 years on dialysis. Have your Dad talk to a good Nephrologist.

Prayers up.

My Mother in Law just passed away. She was in rehab and I had just built ramps for her walker/wheelchair into the entrances to my house. Her passing broke my heart but she was ready as her husband had died 3 weeks before. 67 years married and both gone within 3 weeks. She went to church with my wife for the first time in many decades and then passed in the night with the knowledge that the government was not going to get the home she and her Jimmy had built with there own hands 65 years ago. That made her very happy. I can tell you that.

Will do! Having been there, done that, don’t be surprised if he perks up a bit.

May God bless all of you and may you feel His love on this journey.

I will keep you in prayer.

One of the most painful, if not the most in one’s life no doubt. The bottom of the hole. It can be the most beautiful though if walked with God.

Something I found particularly useful when facing the same situation with my mother earlier this year. In John 11 we read about the ressurection of Lazarus. Something I never noticed until a friend pointed it out, that Jesus wept before he raised Lazarus.

Why would He weep before raising Lazarus, knowing He was about to do so? It can only mean that there is actual value in mourning (because He never did anything without a reason).

All of this is to say that don’t deny yourself opportunities to mourn, whenever they may arise. Jesus is accompanying you even in that state of grief. He was and is human too; He assigned meaning to grief itself in that shortest verse in the Bible.

You guys are in my prayers.

We had seven people in a row die over a period of seven years. We dealt with hospice for one relative and it was a professional, reassuring and loving experience, considering the sorrow.

I meant to mention I just visited a friend last weekend on home hospice care. It was a great visit.

He has pancreatic cancer and while one doctor wanted to operate, the other spoke humanely that he should just enjoy the rest of his life with family.

It is hard on the family. May God’s peace be with you.

You should be able to take him Communion if he can’t attend Mass.

I also will pray for your father and his family.

Glad to see you went about it the right way to get prayer for your father and his family:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;...--Matthew 7:7 - Berean Study Bible

I see that God has raised up over 77 people to give you what you asked for and He did promise you He would grant your request in Matthew 7:7.

Prayers up for your Dad. Hopice people are wonderful. They took care of my sister for the last 2 years of her life. (I know—it’s only supposed to be for 6 months, but she defied the odds.)

May your Dad’s journey home be full of joyful and peaceful moments.
