From Southern Baptist to Goddess Worship, Sue Monk Kidd

Excerpted:

What Catholic mysticism does is reject the Bible as the sole and sufficient and perfect revelation of God and tries to delve beyond the Bible, even beyond thought of any kind, and find God through mystical “intuition.” In other words, it is a rejection of the God of the Bible. It says that God cannot be known by doctrine and cannot be described in words. He can only be experienced through mysticism. This is a blatant denial of the Bible’s claim to be the very Word of God.

This opens the practitioner to demonic delusion. He is left with no perfect objective revelation of God, no divinely-revealed authority by which he can test his mystical experiences and intuitions. He is left with an idol of his own vain imagination (Jeremiah 17:9) and a doctrine of devils.

She (Sue Monk Kidd) determined that she was willing to lose her marriage, if necessary.

"I would not, could not forfeit my journey for my marriage or for the sake of religious acceptance or success as a ‘Christian writer.’ I would keep moving in my own way to the strains of feminine music that sifted up inside me, not just moving but embracing the dance. ... I felt the crumbling of the old patriarchal foundation our marriage had rested upon in such hidden and subtle ways. Though both of us would always need to compromise, there was no more sacrificing myself, no more revolving around him, no more looking to him for validation, trying to be what I thought he needed me to be. My life, my time, my decisions became newly my own" (pp. 98, 125).

Don’t talk about my mother that way. She would be GREATLY offended.

Without my mother I would not be born and therefore would not need to be saved from my sins. My mother was a sinner (she died) and she too needed redemption. This comparison does not work. I’m surprise catholics buy into it.

Catholics do not worship Mary. We honor her just like you might honor your own mother.

One of catholicism's favorite arguments....sad as it is.

Consider:

Do you have a statue of your mom?

Do you kneel before this statue and/or light candles before this statue?

Have you composed hundreds, it not thousands of prayers to your mom?

Has your religion built places of worship to your mom?

Do you rely upon your mom for your salvation?

Exactly. You have blundered to the threshold of a great insight.

Your mother’s consent was necessary to your life. Your coming into the world was necessary to your redemption. Therefore your mother made it possible for you to be redeemed. The other thing necessary to your redemption was the Redeemer’s coming into the world. The Blessed Virgin Mary made that possible. Isn’t that in your Bible?

In the reality of God’s Word; once a Christian, always and forever a Christian. The mysticism seeking Christian is not a Christian, or ex-Christian. You cannot un-learn truth. Many people will claim Christianity and will never be Christians, though the potential is always there for them to truly become, and remain, Christians.

Then they are not educated on that subject. There are people who do not understand their religion in all creeds. That doesn't entitle non-Catholics to invoke their ignorance.

Mary can only help you on your way through her son.

Not a nice way to talk about the Redeemer. I notice the Holy Rollers often drop their smug piety when they can zing a Catholic.

Do you ever pray for others? Do you ever ask anyone to pray for you? The Catholic prayer known as the "Hail Mary" says (in part) "Mary . . . pray for us sinners." It is a request to Mary for her prayer on behalf of the petitioner. In that sense, it is no different from you asking someone to pray for you or your intentions.

There is no record of the early church praying to Moses or David for intercession ... That is because scripture tells us that "the veil was rent"(Mat 27:51) that separated men from God, and that we can now "boldly approach the throne of God"(heb 4:16)

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith. (Hebrews 10:19–22)

You err in several assumptions in your post.

That without Mary God would not have been able to accomplish His plan.

Mary is not the Blessed Virgin. It is not a title as catholics like to claim. The Bible notes she will be counted as blessed.....not called.

The greek for "will count blessed" is a future tense verb....not an adjective....not a title.....no matter how much catholics want it to be.

Mary is never referred to in the manner of the "Blessed Virgin" in the Word. It is a made up catholic title.

Only in a certain translation completed under the auspices of an Anglican king who had a Catholic wife, which contains errors just like any other translation contains errors. The word in the Greek, "battalogeo," does not mean "repetitious". It means "babbling". Jesus himself prayed the same prayer three times in the Garden of Gethsemane; that's "repetitious prayer". It's in your Bible.

Young's Literal Translation
'And -- praying -- ye may not use vain repetitions like the nations, for they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard,

New American Standard Bible
"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

Douay-Rheims Bible
And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard.

New Jerusalem Bible
7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard.

And yet Paul asks his readers to pray for him. Evidently he didn't know any better.

LIVING SAINTS

Jesus said those who believed in him would never die. (Jn 11:26) He told the Sadducees that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was the God of the living, not of the dead.

And yet the apostles never are recorded as praying to them are they ?

Neither is she the "Queen of Heaven" as they call her. If I were them, I would be scared to used the term.

Jeremiah 24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt! 25 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: ‘You and your wives have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands, saying, “We will surely keep our vows that we have made, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her.” You will surely keep your vows and perform your vows!’ 26 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: ‘Behold, I have sworn by My great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that My name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “The Lord God lives.” 27 Behold, I will watch over them for adversity and not for good. And all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end to them. 28 Yet a small number who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah; and all the remnant of Judah, who have gone to the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall know whose words will stand, Mine or theirs. 29 And this shall be a sign to you,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that My words will surely stand against you for adversity.’

Then why are their sites with prayers to Mary. That seems like worship to me. Why are their statues of her so people can bow down to?

If a person asks for prayers, he/she expects that person to pray to Jesus not some dead person. I know I would.

Not a very nice term. They are Christians. I have been to a church like that. The minister taught from the Bible. I have been to a service where they “shouted” in the spirit and talked in tongues. I was a kid and did not see anything wrong with it and I still don’t.
