Baptists beware!
This lady is immersed in feminism.
Rejected God as Father.
Relates to God as Mother.
Her beliefs are her own doing, not Thomas Merton’s.
Did you really read the whole story before you posted your comment?
Good post. You’re right. Don’t expect the catholics to get it, but they are not the audience.
No one is sweeter than you, Salvation, but that doesn’t mean Baptists are going to accept Thomas Merton or any other catholic teaching. It is not meant to be a personal attack on you. I’ve looked at some of your catholic postings and to be honest, I find the Mary worship very shocking, among other things. There are some areas we will simply never agree upon.
Catholics do not worship Mary.
We honor her just like you might honor your own mother.
I just know you're not going to like more of David Cloud's articles.
Please be serious. Or have you redefined "worship"?
Whatever you say. It looks like worship to me. I would never ever say those things to my own mother. Neither do I consider my mother sinless nor a participant in my redemption.
As for you not reading the post.....I didn’t say that. All are welcome to read it. Like I said, I’ve read yours. Because they are a caucus I do not comment.
We do not have statues of our mom to bow before nor do we pray to her. When we pray, it is to Jesus.
Likewise for Catholics.
Good night.
But your mother IS a participant in your redemption. How could she not be?
The writer of the article you posted apparently does not know about Catholic spirituality or Catholic meditation. His whole first paragraph attributes to Catholcism something which has no place there at all, which is why both Merton and Pennington have been criticized by orthodox Catholics for going too fast into Far Eastern meditation styles.
Had the author read the other writers he mentions on their ideas of prayer, he would have found they would disapprove of his definition of Catholic spirituality just as much as he does.
Likewise for Catholics. -salvation is a FREE GIFT from God... not a screen name that usurps His Majesty!
Arrention FRoman cultists...
How can anyone in good conscience post Mary-worshipping examples day after day, and not see the "worship" aspects in them? Below is a clip from one of recent "caucus" postings. In it, credit is given to Mary for the redeeming Work of Jesus Christ. Mary in Scripture has none of the attributes that the Roman Catholic CULT has bestowed on their illusion. Jesus seems an afterthought!
Cult - noun 1. a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies. 2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult. 3. the object of such devotion. 4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. 5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
PETITION TO MARY
Most holy Virgin Immaculate, my Mother Mary, to thee who art the Mother of my Lord, the queen of the universe, the advocate, the hope, the refuge of sinners, I who am the most miserable of all sinners, have recourse this day. I venerate thee, great queen, and I thank thee for the many graces thou hast bestowed upon me even unto this day; in particular for having delivered me from the hell which I have so often deserved by my sins. I love thee, most dear Lady; and for the love I bear thee, I promise to serve thee willingly for ever and to do what I can to make thee loved by others also. I place in thee all my hopes for salvation; accept me as thy servant and shelter me under thy mantle, thou who art the Mother of mercy. And since thou art so powerful with God, deliver me from all temptations, or at least obtain for me the strength to overcome them until death. From thee I implore a true love for Jesus Christ. Through thee I hope to die a holy death. My dear Mother, by the love thou bearest to Almighty God, I pray thee to assist me always, but most of all at the last moment of my life. Forsake me not then, until thou shalt see me safe in heaven, there to bless thee and sing of thy mercies through all eternity. Such is my hope. Amen.
Yep, it is a cult, with all the trappings...
????????????
No, that's not prayer to Mary. Nope. No way...never...
???????????????
It's just a good thing they don't pray to her. This is obviously a fraudulent petition/prayer.
“Parson, thanks to your prayers and your guidance, I have found salvation through Jesus. You have brought many to God.” Is such a statement all that different from Catholic attitudes to Mary?
Jesus prayed to the Father.
Actually, Steve, it IS different.
Scripture tells us not to involve ourselves with "vain, repititious prayers" like your "Hail, Mary". Scripture tells us that we are to address OUR FATHER, not some secretary, in our prayer sessions. Thirdly, Mary is dead, no matter what some guys in Rome dictate. Scripture nowhere tells us to seek her or to do anything more than acknowledge Jesus's mom as blessed.
I am also blessed! I have His indwelling Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth.
The Truth is not found in much of the rat poison* called Roman Catholicism...
*Rat poison usually consists of good wholesome food (corn, etc), into which chemicals are introduced that will produce death. Usually, it is 90% good stuff, with 10% poison. IMHO, the Roman Catholic cult has taken it to a higher level, and if administered per their requirements, will surely bring about a spiritual death.
After all, God is a Spirit, and those that worship Him, must do so in Spirit and in Truth!
We are told to approach the Throne boldly, not hide under some mythical queens dresses!
wow. I wonder if arguments like this is what’s keeping Democrats winning the presidency. I vote conservative because I am conservative but it’s not easy to vote when a large section of a party are so vehemently against what you believe in. I doubt that God gave a darn if my mother worshipped Mary or not while she was taking care of AIDS patients in the end stage. One week of volunteering is worth a year of pontificating
