On Sunday, May 10, after church mass, a group of young Muslim immigrants interrupted a Catholic procession in honor of the Virgin Mary. They hurled verbal insults, shouts, and threats as the group passed in front of the Islamic Cultural Center in Conselice, a small town in lower Romagna.
Approximately 100 Catholic Christians, including several small children, were preparing to receive their first Holy Communion, when Muslims from the Islamic Center began howling verbal abuses and threats at the passing procession.
According to an eyewitness, During the slow procession of the sacred image, some kids on the ground floor of the building of the headquarters of the Attadamun Islamic Cultural Center began shouting a kind of chorus like Get out of here and Go away from here.
The Catholic participants, especially the children, were reportedly stunned and confused; they halted the procession before regrouping and hurrying past the Center.
Muslim attacks on Christians and Christian symbols are on the increase in Italy. Earlier this year, a crucifix was violently destroyed in close proximity to a populated mosque and a statue of the Virgin Mary was destroyed and urinated on by a group of North Africans in Italy.
(from 2013)Pope Francis commemorates migrant dead at Lampedusa
…The choice of Lampedusa for his first official trip outside Rome was highly symbolic for the pontiff, who said news reports of the deaths of desperate people trying to reach a better life that had been like "a thorn in the heart".
Thousands of islanders waving caps and banners in the Vatican's yellow colors welcomed Francis at the fishing port where he arrived aboard a coastguard vessel accompanied by a flotilla of fishing boats and cast a wreath into the water.
He spoke to young African migrants before celebrating mass in a sports field that served as a reception center for tens of thousands of mainly Muslim migrants who fled Arab Spring unrest in North Africa in 2011, greatly increasing an exodus that has gone on for years.
His trip came at the start of the summer months when the island, one of the main points of entry into the European Union and just 113 km (70 miles) from Tunisia, sees a steady flow of rickety and unsafe boats arriving on its shores.
He saluted the migrants, many of whom are preparing to fast during Ramadan, and thanked the people of Lampedusa for taking them in and setting an example of solidarity to a selfish society sliding into "the globalization of indifference".
"We have become used to other people's suffering, it doesn't concern us, it doesn't interest us, it's none of our business!" he said during his homily from an altar built from an old fishing boat painted in Italy's red, green and white colors.
Orianna Fallaci predicted this. Unfortunately, Italy is in a bad place geographically for this kind of thing. Those boat people probably have dozens of ISIS monsters among them.
The Pope doesn’t execute immigration laws - whatever his failings. It is the government of Italy - like all of Europe and America - that must get the backbone to deal with this mess.
Gross language for the early morning before coffee. Take your dirty mouth someplace else before I hit the abuse button.
I'm appalled !
Where are the men that USED to DO things ?
What has happened to mankind that we are cowered by Satan's wiles ?
Know we not the scriptures ?
It is frustrating to read of abuses and though it would SEEM men could and would do something .... they don't
I wish I could add a sarcasm sign here, but unfortunately I think I'm just predicting future events.
While inappropriate in some eyes, it was understandable.
To me the duplicity in the treatment of anything Muslim with a hypocrisy that boggles the mind is more than inappropriate; it is destructive and dangerous to civilized society.
To me Islam and its tenets are a long string of obscenities far worse than inappropriate. It and its adherents should be treated as Ebola.
Sorry, I don’t want to wake up to profanity, ok? If I wanted that, I’d head to DU. And I said nothing soft about Islam to warrant such a response. We need an Orianna Fallaci and an intelligent government not the Mafia. The Mafia is only interested in building bridges to nowhere and ripping off my successful builder relatives in Sicily.
When these people do this they should be shipped back to the hell that spawned them and their mosques burned down. The Pope is an idiot and the European Union is run by morons.
Such a tolerant religion. Good thing no one drew a picture of the pedophile they worship.
True, but he most definitely helps set the tone. If he is not part of the solution, he's part of the problem.
Understood. Didn’t mean to say you were soft on Islam either. I was just commiserating with knarf a bit regarding the duplicity and resulting frustration surrounding the whole topic of Islam and its Muslims.
As far as Mafia or other groups go, I don’t know enough factual information to comment on it, but I sure do see a whole lot to talk about with respect to Islam and Muslims of which the OP is about.
We need the picture of JPII kissing the Koran here. After all, Francis named him a saint.
Our ancient ancestors may not have been as enlightened as we (think we) are, however, at least they knew when they were being invaded and dealt with it!
Our so-called enlightenment is the functional equivalent of an extremely low IQ.
I apologize for offending you, miss marmelstein .... but not for the spirit of the comment
MEN ARE DOING NOTHING
The muzzies are invaders ... of WHATEVER country we read these reports about ... and they are treated with print as if they were just some kind of news item .. ho hum ... niothing to see here ...
and I have just about HAD IT up to here with that kind of reporting.
Unknown? I think not. He is an agent of the global Fundamental Transformation movement.
Think about that the next time you go to the grocery store and don't hear any English spoken.
