That is technically not so; either the Pope alone or the episcopal college in unison between themselves and with the Pope may make infallible pronouncements, but it has never happened so far that the pope would make an infallible pronouncement without the agreement of the bishops. For example, if a second Arian controversy would arise, and like in the first one, a majority of bishops would fall into heresy, the Pope could alone. if need be, correct and denounce it, infallibly.
I agree fully about the rest of your post.
” before he wrecks the Church.”
He couldn’t do that if he tried. Neither can Satan. Neither can Hell.
But he can try. And he’s trying his hardest.
EWTN and the Vatican website have quotes, in context, unlike the MSM. Check out Fr. Mitch Pacwa, and you'll find a Jesuit who is not only learned in theology, but in several languages and has permission to celebrate both the Maronite and Roman Rites. He sticks to Church teachings, speaks his mind with no punches pulled. He even has a live call in show. Not all Jesuits are of the Georgetown ilk. The MSM has been speculating and reporting its biased opinions since it was announced that the encyclical had been proposed. There is so much quoted out of context and biased; read the material for yourself as it comes out, and form your own opinions. Don't let the MSM succeed in their agenda: it's been anti-Catholic long before Francis.
If Sandro Magister is correct, it looks like maybe the Holy Spirit is at work here.
I’m wondering if he will tell us he’s pro choice.
I am fed up with this Jerk. He represents communist despots, not me.
Good.
Maybe Pope Francis could remove Jesus from catholic doctrine?
Freshen it up a little, get with the times. Put the rainbow flag and outside the church. Put a NOW bumper sticker on the pope mobile.
Watch for Cardinal Muller to be purged.
He knows no theology.
Really.
Maybe he could delay it until, say, after his retirement/abdication? Every time the man communicates in any way at all, at this point, I flinch.
There is no valid reason to stop attending Mass. It is a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
We have the worst Pope in 300 years, but refusing to go to Mass will do nothing good for the Church or the world.
Bergoglio is the worst Pope in 300 or maybe 500 years, but he cannot change the Church. All he can do is confuse people, appoint bad people, banish good people—which is what he has been doing for two years.
Not really. Once he strays from stating principles of faith and morals into proposing specific economic policies as solutions, or endorsing specific scientific theories (e.g., "anthropogenic global warming"), the Pope is not infallible at all.
(One should also note that only a definitive teaching can be infallible; a "suggestion" or "proposal" or "discussion" never is.)
I also agree that in all imaginable scenarios the pope would reach to restore consensus rather than make infallible pronouncements amidst controversy.
However, the 1st Vatican Council unequivocally states:
such definitions of the Roman Pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the Church, irreformable.
The "consent of the Church" is, of course, desirable, but it is not a necessary condition of papal infallibility.
The Pope is a Jesuit.True.
For Jesuits today the Catholic church is an implement for the advancement of the Marxist dialectic. Not all. There are some great SJ's such as Fr. Joseph Fessio at Ignatius Press, Fr. Mitch Pacwa at EWTN, Fr. Raymond Gawronski, members of the Ave Maria campus ministry (Fr. McTeague, Fr. Donovan) and others. The Jesuit-equals-bad equation does not always work.
Pope Francis's theology encompasses a good many things not normally contained in Catholic doctrine, from collectivization to sodomy. His "theology" --- I don't know what you mean by "encompasses," (wiggly word there) but but does not approve collectivization (in the sense of communism) or sodomy. To say it does, is a falsehood.
If he feels that supporting the "Green Movement" will advance the dialectic he will do so.We won't know very comprehensively what he DOES intend until his encyclical is published. So far, nobody here in laity-land has seen it. I favor "First the Evidence, Then the Verdict," unlike Alice in Wonderland's Red Queen.
Unfortunately for His Holiness there are a lot of Catholics who have not yet come to accept his enlightened views - and some of us have stopped attending Mass regularly.
Oh. "I disagree with some of the Pope's opinions, so I have decided to break with Jesus Christ and his Eucharistic Gift of Himself"? Your loss, my friend. I hope it will not your eternal loss.
Please take the 2 minutes necessary to r4ead #25.
I hope it may prove useful to you.
You are assuming he knows his theology.
He’s not supposed to represent you, either. He is to represent God.
