From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

BTW The language you used in that post is not allowed in the religion forum and reflects rather poorly on those who use it.

Dang!

I got back here too late to read the pithy remark!

I know about the origin of the word. I also know that it is a proper noun. If someone pretends that a proper noun isn’t a proper noun, that’s worse than juvenile. It’s deceitful.

Oh?

Let me put in a good word for 'assumption'.

Do you mean things like take and eat of this "THIS IS MY BODY" and perhaps when He said take and drink of this "THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD WHICH WILL BE SHED FOR YOU"...
or do you just dismiss those direct statements as nonsense????...Catholics don't!!

Was that the real actual blood of Christ in that cup? was that waffer the real actual flesh of Christ ?

OK. I get it. There are many, many people on this board smarter than the average Catholic priest. Plus Fulton Sheen and John Henry Newman. And that dummy Benedict 16. All have or had inferior knowledge of the history of Christianity. All were “fooled and duped” by the Catholic Church. Pardon me for not recognizing the sheer brilliance of so many of the FR posters.

>>Hint: “Ekklesia” means “church” and “church” means “ekklesia.”<<

Greek - ἐκκλησία - ekklésia - 1577 ekklēsía(from 1537 /ek, "out from and to" and 2564 /kaléō, "to call") – properly, people called out from the world and to God

The corruption of the Catholic Concept of the word "church" has nothing to do with the original meaning. The word "church" comes from the Greek κυριακός - kuriakos which means "belonging to the Lord". It's not used for the ekklesia of Christ ever.

The concept of the Catholic "church" is more like the Nicolaitans which God hates.

Because you have lost the debate!

E

A. If you say something along the lines of “the moderators might ban me for saying this, but…” then you lost.

B. Anyone who says “well, ban me if you want to, but…” is actually saying; “in the name of a loving God, please ban me because I am losing this argument so badly that my only hope of escaping it with a shred of dignity is if I can make myself out to be some sort of martyr to free speech.”

C. If you claim to have supporting evidence available online, but instead of linking to it you say “Look it up yourself,” you lose. Similarly to the banning thing, “look it up yourself” clearly means “please please please don’t look it up yourself.” It’s an admission of failure.

D. If you invoke the name of a logical fallacy without explaining its relevance, you lose. Logical fallacies are not Harry Potter spells. You don’t just get to shout them out and wiggle your wand to make magic happen. Plus, there’s a logical meta-fallacy: Just because someone’s making an error in reasoning doesn’t mean they’re wrong.

E. If you claim to be winning, you lose. This should be self-evident: If you’re so desperate that you have to tell someone you’re winning, you’re obviously not. http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/12/alt-text-internet-arguments

There were translations into English before Tyndale and translations after Tyndale. IIRC, he was a heretic, and his translation was objectionable on doctrinal grounds.

No thanks to ROME ...nice try Artur

"The first hand-written English language Bible manuscripts were produced in the 1380's AD by John Wycliffe, an Oxford professor, scholar, and theologian. Wycliffe, (also spelled “Wycliff” & “Wyclif”), was well-known throughout Europe for his opposition to the teaching of the organized Church, which he believed to be contrary to the Bible. With the help of his followers, called the Lollards, and his assistant Purvey, and many other faithful scribes, Wycliffe produced dozens of English language manuscript copies of the scriptures. They were translated out of the Latin Vulgate, which was the only source text available to Wycliffe. The Pope was so infuriated by his teachings and his translation of the Bible into English, that 44 years after Wycliffe had died, he ordered the bones to be dug-up, crushed, and scattered in the river! http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/

Since you were too lazy to post a /sarc tag, you will be held to your posted words and may expect to be quoted.

And you are pardoned, provisionally; if you engage your sense of civility before posting.

“And that’s why it’s SO easy to manipulate them.”

No. Protestants say they rely on scripture and yet they are consistently wrong on theology and easily manipulated by their leaders.

“Don’t read it for yourself; let the church tell you what it means.”

Once again we see one of the logical flaws of Protestant anti-Catholicism. Essentially you’re saying someone who is illiterate is doomed.

What would happen next - under normal circumstances - is that you’ll deny that you are saying that. I’ll just remind you that most people have no advanced training in scripture, or Greek, or Hebrew. They are dependent upon their pastors (whether Catholic or not), or books they buy (Catholic or not), or translations - which are all interpretations (Catholic or not). Thus, in effect, only a tiny fraction of people on this Earth are reading the Bible for “themselves”.

That’s another logical flaw that Protestant anti-Catholics have never been able to make an effective answer to.

You’ll most likely demonstrate why in just a moment.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me”

~ Matthew 5:11

Catholics have been putting up with this for 2,000 years. It’s part of the territory and a badge of honor.

Go ahead - you’re just proving my point. ‘assumption’ is not a proper noun.

Those not born again remain dead.. the dead do not know they are dead

More than that...

Ecclesiastes 9:5
The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me”

The "me" in this quote actually refers to Lord Jesus Christ, not a man-made worship system. That's an important distinction.
