Well it really is the heart of where the bible is coming from.

It all matters. What it is not, is a book put in scientific terms. God could put it like this: Please don’t beat Me over the head with your blue roses and red violets (and sour sugars) when I am here saying I love you!

I learned this in a Jewish Synagogue as part of Hebrew training 2 years ago.
It surprised me as I also was taught that Moses wrote the Torah.

I spent 3 months in Israel learning from the Israeli people about their history and culture. It is much more complex than you realize.

Relax, life isn’t going to come to an end debating Christianity, the Catholic Church or the Reformation.
It WILL waste lots of valuable time on FR.

BTW, I have always respected your opinion.
I only clicked on the link to see what RaceBannon had to say on this subject.
Didn’t mean to create waves my friend.

Ok. .. you have a point. But basically, I see genesis as telling us that God created us. The story is told in a beautiful matter. It’s ignorant to get upset when science doesn’t conform to poetry.
And the people making it an article of faith that I see poetry as science, are being dense, and are harming the faith.

As metaphor it even corresponds to “old earth” explanations of creation quite well.

The thing is, we shouldn’t let science carry us away. Who ever put love in an Erlenmeyer flask, let him throw the first stone....

There are various schools of thought in Jewish circles. I came across them too. The thing that hits me, is if they think even half these explainings-away are true, why are they even bothering with their scriptures. Why not study Shakespeare or Homer to guide your lives.

You are in fact still believing that there is God in them in a way that God is not in the other things.

Since we are not privy to the original language used to relay the story of Genesis, debating whether it was Six Days or six millennia is worthless.

I believe in the Lord God the creator of heaven and earth: of all that is seen and unseen.

I don’t care if it took six days, six years or six millennia. God can make a day seem like years or a year seem like a day. He is all powerful.

I am very thankful for all he has brought and He is forgiving!

My “work on behalf of the devil”? What are you talking about? Is taking God at his word somehow working on behalf of the devil?

old testament stuff really doesn’t matter. Beyond curiosity, all you need is found in the new.

Jesus would really disagree with you there. He lived and taught God's Word as written in the Old Testament all his life on earth. And 2 Timothy 3:16 says that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." And remember, the scripture mentioned here is the Old Testament, as there was no New Testament at that time.

As a child I believed the 6 as-they-are-now days' creation and for my young years. Then as a 30-something adult I took a course in Anthropology. I never would have chosen to take that course but my father told me to and he was paying for my college. That really rattled me. It was a Catholic college, and we learned about the predecessors of man, Australopethicus, homo erectus, Neanterthal; some natural history, most I've forgotten. I never did feel comfortable about the difference of what was taught in that course and my faith. It still bothers me to read about Neanterthal, we share genes, no they aren't compatible we couldn't mate with them, no Asians carry more Neanderthal dna and so on.

What if science is true or on the right track and the bible a bunch of fables as the atheists like to taunt believers with on news message boards?

I didn't want to believe all that stuff and think they might be mistaken about some of the fossils so I decided to believe what Jesus referred to in the Old Testament. He seemed to believe literally in one man and one woman, Adam and Eve, Noah, David, and Jonah and the whale.

Incidentally I have been reading some of my Edward Rowe Snow books where I left off some years ago (easy, interesting reading), he was no fool and checked his sources as best he could, anyway, he tells of two different instances where men got swallowed by whales and lived. One for 2 days didn't fare too well, skin was bleached white, affected afterwards, but lived quite awhile after that.

I still think that until the earth orbited the sun, days could be almost any length and even back then, we don't know if the hours were exactly 24 because the orbit, no revolutions on the polar axis, could be a little different now.

If you can’t trust the Bible’s account of creation, then you can’t trust its account of the Fall, which is the whole reason Jesus even came to earth later. Deciding to believe only parts of God’s word and to dismiss others as false is a dangerous road to embark on. After all, Numbers says that “God is not human, that he should lie.” If God wasn’t telling the exact truth here, then why should we believe anything else he says?

God created us

Oh really? I thought you believed that He just sat back and watched us evolve for billions of years.

Yes, I think it is a profoundly bad idea to start out interpreting Genesis by asking: “Did God really say ...?”

how is love shown if you teach lies?

Telling someone the truth is more loving than lying to them so they die in their sins

Your lies that the bible speaks in the language of science are in fact very hateful.

Are you insinuating an evil thought? Remember that thought began in your mind. Jesus has something to say about that.

Has it ever occurred to you that it is the modern “Creation Scientists” who have, in fact, allowed a “scientific world view” to hold such sway over their minds that love is relegated to second place?

The devil could let you explain everything about creation except why it was created, and you would go to just as hot a hell because you would never yield to the Lord. You might imagine God patting you on the back for telling supposed truths about the creation and yet... the devil believes God is one, and trembles... and the creation would only testify against you that much more strongly.

So many people think of the modern day as the most advanced because it has the best science. But it is exactly that mindset on the physical phenomena that has taken people’s attention off of the spiritual dimension of divine love. Instead they have used science to love themselves, and such a poor pitiful love that is.

Good article!

I’d like to know how you got all that to post from the article. Did you have to do all the HTML or is there a secret to getting everything to post as is from a link?
