RCs on these forum threads tend to frame the debate as Roman Catholicism versus Protestantism. On this basis, RCs on FR RF can and do evade and obfuscate the true discussion.

And that true discussion, that doesn’t happen often here on FR, is between the RCC and the Church Founded Himself by Lord Jesus Christ that has always been around in spite of continual persecutions of Christians by carnal despots and their man-made, hierarchical, religious organizations that EACH call themselves the one true church.

God never created denominations .. MAN did.

God looks at the heart .. and the denomination is of no consequence to HIM.

Bourne, Brownlee, S. Morse, Beecher...And let us not forget Rev. Nevins' "Thoughts on popery." Or McCallen's fantastical "The Devil in robes, or the sin of priests : the gory hand of Catholicism stayed. The prayers of protestants heard." This type of writing abounded on all sides at the time.

Christ said you can recognize a tree by its fruit.

The Catholic fruit from Rome at the time of reformation was stubborn lack of repentance that would make Pharaoh blush. Cruel torture and murder was how the Catholic leaders dealt with men like William Tyndale who gave his life to give common men access to the scriptures - something that would never have happened at all if there was no reformation.

It certainly appears that some Catholic promoters even on this forum would love to go back to the days when they could just burn the dissenters at the stake and be done with us.

The new world has been populated by Catholics and Protestants. Countries that have been dominated by Catholicism have turned more and more socialistic. The Protestants (who Catholics incidentally claim are in disagreement and thus prove to be in error) were able to work together and set aside denominational differences in order to form the Greatest Nation ever on this planet.

As Catholics grew in proportion to the population through immigration and are now the largest denomination of Christendom, this nation has experienced greater and greater evil. (Catholics represented less than 2% of the population when this nation formed and are now around 25%.)

Legislators like Nancy Pelosi are freely able to maintain a Catholic identity while promoting the most vile and immoral laws in the history of humanity. Most Evangelical congregations would excommunicate members who do such vile things.

Currently, the Supreme Court contains zero Evangelical Christians, but it does have Catholic representation. This has helped this nation not much more than if Satan worshipers filled those seats.

So, go ahead and mock true believers in Christ. His enemies openly mocked Him also. Fill up the shoes of your father.

Some of us will continue to regard Christ’s words above foolish, man-made traditions and rhetoric, and judge the tree by its fruit.

Protestant anti-Catholics, being not well educated about things Christian, often make anachronistic mistakes. A Catechism from 1875, for instance, should naturally be interpreted by what came before it:

Concerning this doctrine the Pope of Vatican I, Pius IX, spoke on two different occasions. In an allocution (address to an audience) on December 9th, 1854 he said:

We must hold as of the faith, that out of the Apostolic Roman Church there is no salvation; that she is the only ark of safety, and whosoever is not in her perishes in the deluge; we must also, on the other hand, recognize with certainty that those who are invincible in ignorance of the true religion are not guilty for this in the eyes of the Lord. And who would presume to mark out the limits of this ignorance according to the character and diversity of peoples, countries, minds and the rest?

Again, in his encyclical Quanto conficiamur moerore of 10 August, 1863 addressed to the Italian bishops, he said:

It is known to us and to you that those who are in invincible ignorance of our most holy religion, but who observe carefully the natural law, and the precepts graven by God upon the hearts of all men, and who being disposed to obey God lead an honest and upright life, may, aided by the light of divine grace, attain to eternal life; for God who sees clearly, searches and knows the heart, the disposition, the thoughts and intentions of each, in His supreme mercy and goodness by no means permits that anyone suffer eternal punishment, who has not of his own free will fallen into sin. https://www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/outside_the_church.htm

2. They make a liar of Jesus Christ, of the Holy Ghost, and of the Apostles.

Douay-Rheims Bible translated into English from the Catholic vulgate.

8 But be not you called Rabbi. For one is your master; and all you are brethren.

9 And call none your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven.

The Catholics makes a liar out of Jesus Christ by calling the priests father.

We can argue all day about exactly what Paul meant but we need not do that because Jesus told us in plain words not to call any man on earth father.

Did Paul say different? if he did he was wrong.

Peter said a few words regarding Paul in 2 Peter 3:16

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Is this what is wrong with not only the Catholic Church but in many cases some of the protestant Churches?

Q. What is the act of faith of a Protestant?

A. O my God, I believe nothing except what my own private judgment tells me to believe; therefore I believe that I can interpret Thy written word—the Holy Scriptures —as I choose. I believe that the Pope is anti-Christ; that any man can be saved, provided he is an honest man; I believe that faith alone is sufficient for salvation; that good works, and works of penance, and the confession of sins are not necessary, etc.

Is this satire or an attempt at being serious? Because I gotta tell you....it looks like satire to me.

The act of a Christian is to believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Can anyone have salvation based on faith in Christ? You betcha they can based on the words of Christ Himself in John 3:16.

For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

The lives of those men were evil, and it is only the devil that makes use of them to pervert the people still more.

AHHHhhh!

I see!

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
