Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

Posted on 12/14/2014 11:57:21 AM PST by ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

>>I figure that if it is indeed His Body, I probably should bow to it....so I do.<<

Worshiping a cracker carried around on the end of a stick is idolatry.

Interesting way of wording, terycarl.

A big IF, and a PROBABLY. Yet because your are required to worship and bow to it, you do.

Out of ignorance.

There was a time back in the day when a bunch of Hebrews bowed down to a Golden Calf which caused Moses to break all of the Ten Commandments.

Remember what happened to them?

Jesus loves you, terycarl. With agape love.

He doesn't require that of you in return, just phileo love will do.

Not answering the direct question let me ask again: Why do you accept the canon of the 1st and 2nd century Jews that rejected both Christ and the New Testament. Annalex and I have both asked you this question. Please supply a real answer.

>>Any saint is a saint because of his or her works of self-denial.<<

Wrong again! You are on a role!!

Saint - Greek - hagios - set apart by (or for) God, holy, sacred.

Nothing about works in there. Every true believer is "set apart by God". Why do you keep injecting words into scripture to make it mean something it doesn't?

>>This is why it is necessary to pray to saints, so that they can take you to Him.<<

Wrong again!!!

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

It's the Father who draws people to Jesus. Why would you attribute that to dead people?

I wouldn't be concerned about that, verga.

Some people are educated way past their intelligence.

Seek the Wisdom of God, not the knowledge of men.

Knowledge is good, but is ineffective unless applied with God's wisdom.

The Bible seen through the guidance of the Holy Spirit trumps a bunch of pieces of paper hanging on a wall.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.---Matthew 6,33

The double speak by the Catholic Church and it’s followers is absolutely stunning.

anna lex: "This is why it is necessary to pray to saints, so that they can take you to Him"

Wrong.

Jesus asked us to pray to the Father through Him.

If done properly, we become born again and Jesus lives in us, and we live in Him.

That's why it is called a PERSONAL relationship with Jesus.

But why use the saints, isn't it the Catholic Mary's job to be the vehicle through which we get to Jesus?

Wrong.

Catholics sound a lot like the Israelites when Moses tried to take them up the mountain into God’s presence. They refused to go because they were afraid and told Moses to go alone and bring God’s instructions to them.

Jesus is God incarnate. You don’t need Mary or anyone else to intercede. We are welcome in His presence.

Where?

2 Timothy 3:

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Matthew 4:

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

>>Neither of the two quotes from St. Irenaeus say that the Apostolic Tradition is entirely contained in the Scripture.<<

"We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith." [Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson, editors, Ante-Nicene Fathers (Peabody: Hendriksen, 1995) Vol. 1, Irenaeus, “Against Heresies” 3.1.1, p. 414.]

You should know full well that when you post something in a foreign language you also need to include the translation. If you want to hide the truth which I showed in my post just say so.

What are you talking about? The first converts were Jewish. Paul was a well educated Jew who would have known well.

I wouldn't be concerned about that, verga. Some people are educated way past their intelligence.

Do you go a doctor that has no degree? Would you use a lawyer that did not have a degree and had passed the bar? When people make really stupid comment I have to know where they got that information from.

Just as I have asked a number of professed ex-Catholics that make the erroneous claim that Catholic worship Mary: Who taught you that? I want to know if some Catholic told them a lie or if they are repeating what they heard from others with an axe top grind.

...”You need to ask the people who are they ‘worshiping’”....

Apart from the fact your dodging a simple question....You have admitted then they ARE ‘Worshipping’.....which would therefore include the photo of those bowing/worshiping before an idol of mary...

So with that in mind God clearly calls these man made idols “Gods”....

“I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols”....Isaih 42

..”You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall ‘not bow down to them’ or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God”...Ex:20

“You shall not ‘make’ idols for yourselves or ‘erect an image’ or pillar’, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land ‘to bow down to it’, for I am the Lord your God.”...Lev. 26

“Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat.... Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.”...Pslm:115

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”....John 4

Just so you know...the third photo is of three who ‘refused to bow’ before an idol.... written of in Daniel 3

Funny, you quote bible hub and now make this claim. No degree and you bear false witness. So much is so clear.
