Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

Posted on 12/14/2014 11:57:21 AM PST by ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

You're one of those "on a mission" types and not at all shy about it, so maybe I made it too personal for you to help my understanding.

Ezekiel 28:2-6

"being swollen with pride, you have said: I am god; I am sitting on the throne of God, surrounded by the seas; though you are a man and not a god, you consider yourself the equal of God; you are wiser now than Daniel; there is no sage as wise as you; by your wisdom and your intelligence you have amassed great wealth; you have piles of gold and silver inside your treasure-houses; such is your skill in trading, your wealth has continued to increase, and with this your heart has grown more arrogant; since you consider yourself the equal of God, very well, I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most barbarous of the nations;

I already know your opinions about Mary and Mormons.

Oh?

I have OPINIONS?

Do tell!

To what; exactly; do you refer?

...The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, ...

Didn't Ezekiel have something to say about this??

. You could have included Titus 1:14, which is explanitory to what concerned Paul in most of the quotes that you posted:
[14] Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

.
(the Pharisees'  false "oral" torah)

...one of those "on a mission" types...

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.--Psalms 69:9, KJV

Other versions:

New International Version
for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

English Standard Version
For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.

International Standard Version
Zeal for your house consumes me, and the mockeries of those who insult you fall on me.

Douay-Rheims Bible
For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

Also noteworthy is that both Vaticanus and Sinaiticus were deliberately kept hidden due to the fact that they contained hundreds, if not thousands of redacted writings that had originally matched other MS that were more recently produced.

It is a commonly held belief that they both were among the 50 Codices prepared by Origen, a known gnostic.

Yes, that's the question. Your answer(s) ignore the question and answers that you're right. My question was what if you're wrong.

You've quoted and quoted, but sometimes I can't tell if people are using Biblical quotes to show off or like a stick to beat people with or as a thing to hide behind.

It's okay if you don't want to answer it from the "what if I'm wrong" point of view. Lots of people can't or won't consider things from that point of view, especially in the War between the Denominations. That's why I posted it as a rhetorical question.

None the less, I am curious if you have your own words about what happens if you, or anyone else for that matter, have gotten Mary's status wrong and she truly is the Queen of Heaven and is working now to prepare us all for her Son's return?

The very same St. Luke who wrote the Gospel inclusive of the Annunciation to Mary, and the Visitation to Elizabeth!

When I observe people who appear to feel they are "on a mission", I try to figure out who signed their orders by observing and analyzing what they do and how, along with what they leave behind.

Then, I compare my observations to the Original Template for similarities, discrepancies, etc. In other words, which Biblical character(s) do they make me think of when I watch them in action.

For the record, I'm a non-denominational, low info Christian who is attempting to avoid becoming "denominationally damaged" while seeking the Truth.

We stick with what is written in God’s word, so we know that at least we agree with God!

Agreeing with Constantine’s cult can be difficult, since it contradicts it self so many times.

You can become a high info believer by just prayerfully reading the word.

All the “denominations” are damaged by following Rome, and it is way too late to save them. That is why the Revelation says to “come out of her.”

Most Christian’s orders are signed by God, through Jesus and the Holy Spirit with backup by scripture.

IMO Zeal is a noble attribute.

I like your last statement.

That is noble in my book also!

Merry Christmas

Oh and as an after thought, “... which Biblical character(s) do they make me think of when I watch them in action”

Very good idea!

Agreed. That's certainly the place to start, though with so many versions and translations over the many, many years, it often can be hard to come away with a clear understanding. I believe much of it is purposefully written to not be clear "as is" but rather is description through metaphor and analogy?

Therefore, the only answer, based upon what is written, is that Holy Spirit is the only teacher who can truly explain what has been written, but He needs the appropriate spirit to feel welcome enough to share His Wisdom.

Without that appropriate spirit and the Holy Spirit's teaching, pardon my babble, but they're just words whose meanings change with time, generation by generation.

So, I guess that's why people tend to get things wrong, such as arguing about rich and poor referring to physical wealth, instead of being about one's spirit, and then act accordingly, while being oblivious to it at the same time?

Please forgive me and my ignorance if I just watch the War Between the Denominations from the sidelines and ask an occasional question or two along the way.

Thank you so much! I wish you the very same.

So far, so good. I'm learning to start, spend and end my day being as the name you've chosen.

You know what? That guy Jesus, He's quite the Healer! I can't help it. I love that Guy!
