Ooops, missing tag. Let's try that again.

We have proof even here on FR

Got to admit I haven't seen that one. Can you give a few examples?

I generally go by "You shall know them by their fruits"

In my experience the Mormon tree has produced good fruit.

Harry Reid notwithstanding.

I was going to say I would be very surprised by that, because we have always discussed polygamy as being practiced in Nauvoo. What is new to the discussion is the types of wives, not the existence of multiples.

However, I didn’t consider that we used to have those “defenders” that were rather erratic in their defense (as well as their non-defending postings). Sigh.

Most Mormons I have met are good people.

But honestly.. if they just spent 5 minutes researching the origins of their religion, they would know almost instantly it’s a complete and utter crock.

I remember when JFK was talking about running for Prez....so many people were worried about him being Catholic...is this a start to tear down Mitt in the same manner...I don’t intend on voting for Mitt, just saying...

“Invented a religion in order to act as he wanted to anyway”

Yep, very Muslim.

Fortunately, Joe was able to overcome this shortcoming on his way to personal piety and perfection, end route to eventual godhood.

...er, what? You mean he was still doing this at the time an angry mob dragged him out of jail and killed him?

Never mind, then.

It appears he may have even invented this religion in order to have access to chicks. And a ready excuse for his wife.

Looking at the number of hot actresses in Scientology, I’ve pretty much concluded L. Ron Hubbard did the same.

We learned this in grade school in the 60s and again when we visits SLC and that the streets in SLC were built wide so the whole family could walk to church barest and a wagon team could turn around.

Try telling many of the women married before the turn of the century they were victims of statutory rape. How stupid. Do people not learn any history at all any more?

Smith was killed at 38. Imagine what his wife count would be if he’d lived as long as Brigham Young. The previous LDS strategy of ordering the faithful not to read the original documents available online apparently failed.

The Church admitted that one of Smith's wives was 14 years old -- making Smith a pedophile and a statutory rapist.

What were the more's of the day? I get that there are many who detest Mormons, even the non-polygamy versions of today, but they often show their asses by grasping at straws.

Friend of mine, at our LDS boss' home for the wedding of boss' daughter, looks at picture of Joseph Smith hanging over the fireplace and says to me under his breath...

"I didn't know that Thomas Jefferson was a Mormon."

Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

Religiosity itself IS cognitive dissonance. It utterly defines it.

I live in a neighborhood, like most, with a mix of religions and non-religious folks. Want to guess at who makes the best neighbors? It's not the "Christians," and it's been the same no matter where I've lived. For example: My next door neighbors are VERY religious. They're also extremely lazy, the most unfriendly, have the most unkempt property around (it's nasty, actually), and never offer assistance to anyone, even after their non-religious neighbors have graciously assisted them on multiple occasions. Yet, they never miss a Sunday at church.

My favorite story (about the neighbor) happened after the derecho swept through, just a few years back. He had two large trees down, and after another neighbor and I cleaned our own yards, we volunteered to help with his removal. When his wife next mowed, after we essentially cleaned our "Christian" neighbor's yard, I watched her (again) kick garbage into my yard instead of picking it up. (If it's paper they simply mow over it, but plastic and glass end up in my yard.)

I could go on and on with stories about "Christian" neighbors, many far (FAR) worse than the one above, but what's the point? It's the same story on Free Republic, and I guarantee the ones who persecute the most lead the dirtiest lives.
