Pope Francis declares evolution and Big Bang theory are right and God isn't 'a magician with a wand'

The theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real and God is not “a magician with a magic wand”, Pope Francis has declared.

Speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Pope made comments which experts said put an end to the “pseudo theories” of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, Benedict XVI.

Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator – arguing instead that they “require it”.

“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.

He added: “He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment.

“The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.

“Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

God is not able to do everything according to Pope Jocelyn Elders.

For the life of me I’ve never understood why it matters how He did it as long as He did it. Whatever the Almighty does the Almighty does.

Look dude.. God is either...The cause of all... THE Creator...

Or what you call God is not God at all.. but IS just magician like any other magician, I.E. just a trickster illusionist fraud..

You can not have it both ways... God is the foundation or he is not God.

No one will ever accuse Frances of being an intellectual giant.

There’s nothing in these quotes that’s not orthodox or hasn’t been stated by Popes in the last 60 years

So Popes have been saying the Big Bang is how the world started for sixty years?

Even worse than I thought.

Sorry but the Pope is making a valid point. Those who insist on a literal interpretation of the Bible are actually leading people away from spirituality and into an intellectual dead end. Example: Consider the Exodus story. The Bible states that since the Pharoh refused to end the slavery of the Hebrews, the first born of all Egyptians were killed by angels. Pretty harsh if you take this literally. Imagine that there was an older apolitical poor Egyptian shoemaker and his wife who was thought to be barren after twenty years of marriage. Now suppose this poor honest family experienced a minor miracle and his wife at age forty gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Is it rational to believe that a just and loving God would send an angel to rip the infant from the breast of its bewildered mother and mercilessly kill it? Or is the story allegorical as are many of the parables that Jesus used as a teaching tool. In ancient times the future and well being of a nation depended on the vitality of its first born males. Slavery corrodes a culture. It leads to cruelty, sloth , and a lack of purpose in those who hold the slaves. A culture would die, since the first born would be corrupted never realize their potential, and suffer a slow death.

That is just one example why Catholics do not take the Bible literally.

The pope appears to be saying that the Big Bang and evolution are two of the techniques God used to create the world, and man. Sounds like Intelligent Design to me.

Amazing. Whenever Obama says something and it is read in context liberals always say “that’s taken out of context.” As and example Obama’s “You didn’t build that” statement. He said exactly what he said in any context imaginable. BUT, all the liberals ran to his defense saying “that was taken out of context.”

Two sentences from an hour long sermon by the pope is isolated from any context spun and drip dried and all the liberals jump up with jay and say “SEE THE POPE SUPPORTS EVOLUTION ABORTION AND REDISTRIBUTION” Context completely ignored.

There is no conflict between evolution and creation. It is made up battle by militant atheists and misguided Christians. Evolution is a beautiful and elegant system for creating life, God is an infinite supreme being, he does not need to individually design a million species of cockroaches. Even Pat Robertson recently admitted that a 6,000 year earth is neither scientific nor even Biblical.

The Big Bang was a theory proposed by a priest/physicist, Fr. Georges Lemaître.
The Church has never had a problem with it.

That is just one example why Catholics do not take the Bible literally.

...and one more reason to see the cultic aspects of such a false religion. It relies on man's intellect to provide the answers.

God is not a liar. That Scripture is inspired by God makes it true, not just some allegorical fairy tale!

I wish Intelligent Design were like that. It’s not. It’s a kind of protestant style creationism.

Yes, and actually I can see that.

Problem with the Big Bang is it STILL has to have some beginning, something before the “bang”.

One more way the Catholic church becomes apostate. True believers left in her walls need to flee.
