I Knew a Priest Who Could See the Dead
ChurchPOP ^ | 2014 | Fr. Dwight Longenecker

Posted on 10/25/2014 9:19:13 AM PDT by millegan

I’ll call him Fr. John. He was a charismatic Anglo Catholic priest.

A friend of my brother Daryl’s we’ll call Henry died suddenly in a plane crash and he was upset because although Henry was a believer he was away from God when he died.

So Fr. John said, “We have to have a requiem Mass for Henry.”

They went into church and locked the door for privacy’s sake. Another priest we’ll call Fr. George celebrated the Mass.

Henry was about twenty years old. He was just over five foot tall with a shock of blonde hair and a wide face with freckles.

I’ve read that and I’m open to it. Or it could be from our own past timeline. I think ghosts are real, but it’s presumptuous to say with autauthority that they are the actual spirits of the dead, or demons, or anything else.

We just don’t know.

And also, different theories aren’t mutually exclusive.

but He doesn’t and he makes clear that the dead are dead and do not come back. It’s the devil that conjures up spirits to pretend to be the dead to trick you.

Hard for me to take seriously what a person says who calls himself "spacejunkie," especially when he seem to be so VERY sure of what Satan's intentions are.

Do ya think he has some special "demon antenna" or something?

“Where is the Biblical basis for this type of mass in Catholic or Anglican church theology?”

Jews said prayers for the dead. 2 Maccabees 12:43.

"What he saw was a demonic apparition."

Thank you for posting this. The biblical truth is there aren't any "ghosts" only demons masquerading as people who have died in order to deceive, terrorize or demonically indwell or enslave the living.

"And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die ONCE and after this comes judgment," (Hebrews 9:27)

The Lord Jesus Christ clearly defines what happens to people after they die in Luke 16:19 - 31: They don't become "ghosts" that wander the earth, they end up in either paradise or hell depending on whether or not they have "repented"/believed on Christ, there is NO purgatory! The person's position, whether blessed or cursed in fiery torment in hell is "fixed". There is no crossing over, there is no escape, there is no coming back for a "second chance" or to "haunt" or contact the living in order to "warn them lest they come to this place" (hell).

Is the Bible the ONLY/SOLE authority? You must not believe in traditions, oral or Apostolic.

That’s interesting. I had a friend who said she saw auras. I didn’t believe her until she took me to some tv show that was interviewing others who saw them. It’s a strange world, let’s face it.

“The problem with such people is that very often the very gifts they have set them apart and they have a very difficult spiritual path to follow.”

“We should never seek such gifts, but if we have them we must yield them to God and allow the Spirit to develop them through a serious life of prayer and holiness so that these gifts might be transformed by the Holy Spirit.”

Two powerfully true statements.

I have had the gift of seeing, feeling and communicating with “spirits” since I was young and it is as much a curse as it is a blessings. I have prayed and cried to God in the past to take it away. It is part of learning discernment.

There are spirits of many types and motives. There are earthbound deceased that are misguided such as the soul of babies aborted or miscarried by their mothers.

There are those who are just stuck from anger or fear from one event such as an auto accident that took their physical life.

There are angels of the Light who are there to assist God in fulfilling His will.

There are angels of darkness who are there to create resistant in our spiritual path.

There are a few other oddballs....

And then their is the Holy Spirit which is sent by our Father to guide us.

The important thing to remember is that God created all for a purpose and God is in charge. Always look to the ultimate Boss for your strength and you will be guided through the crowds of beings along your path.

Jesus told the disciples, how can I tell you of the things of heaven when you do not understand things on Earth? There is so much that we do not understand. I won’t criticize someone else because I do not know everything myself.

Extremely well put.
KUDOS to you.

Wait, you searched the scripture, and came away with your own understanding?

Does the Pope know you’ve done this? Tsk tsk

You’re psychic. My mother was like that when she was young - it passed off as she got older.

I believe you but wonder why that is.

Was Moses - who had most definitely died a millennium earlier - trying to “deceive, terrorize or demonically indwell or enslave the living” when he appeared with Christ and Elijah on Mount Tabor? See Mt 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-8, Luke 9:28-36.

“Wait, you searched the scripture, and came away with your own understanding?”

Where did I say it was my own understanding?

“Does the Pope know you’ve done this? Tsk tsk”

Do you realize you’re implying something I never said? Tsk, tsk.

You want to just make something else up?

I don’t know if Catholics do it anymore but we always had a priest bless our house when we moved in. It was basically to ensure no one was lingering about in the afterlife...

I realize that Catholics do have to believe that one can contact the dead.

Their whole system of praying to dead saints depends on it.

Otherwise, they might have to actually, ***gasp*** depend on praying to the Father alone in Jesus’ name as Jesus commanded us, and trust HIM to answer their prayers Himself.

And who knows where that would get them?

Everyone knows that God wouldn’t do something like that without scads of dead people pestering Him about it.

How do we know that “Fatima” wasn’t a demonic trick?

Too much in Catholicism depends on contacting the dead and seeing apparitions.

They can't have something like trusting God themselves.

Of the horror......

Well, Saul did speak with Samuel after Samuel had died. A necromancer summoned him. These are things we are warned not to mess with.

These are things we are warned not to mess with.
No sh**, Sherlock!

I once used a ouija board at a halloween party a LONG, long time ago. I asked it who I would marry. It "answered" MOZART. Lol.

I learned much later that those boards are forbidden by the Catholic Church. I can see why. SOME people might get "messages" from Satan. They give me the CREEPS anyway.
