Pope Francis, "If Mary is not your Mother, you are an orphan!"
Charisma News ^ | 9/5/2014 | Jennifer LeClaire

Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.

But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:

"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.

As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...

Hey, it’s a cross for all of us, bro. I find myself often wanting to shout profanities at these cognitively challenged fools. It takes all I’ve got sometimes, but I manage to mute it. Usually by the time I’ve calmed down they’ve moved on - their time is short, after all, and those military funerals aren’t gonna protest themselves...

He lacks conviction in his ideology. If mary was actually necessary I think he’d be in trouble.

They just keep on writing their own Bible, substituting their own words for Gods. Same thing Satan did in bringing man down in the beginning.

My Protestant friends are just as pro-life as you are.

Are they? What's their position on contraception?

My nephew was born with a birth defect and a cousin’s daughter is a Down’s child. Both are wonderful people today. God made them the way they are and they have brought much love and happiness to our family. Dale Evans helped with bringing Down’s babies to the country’s attention way back in the 1950’s. When Robin was born, some drs said babies like her should be gunned down and they were kept hidden away.

I find it interesting that you bring this up. So back then you had people making determination on what constitutes life. The inevitable, "I decide" mentality. And yet you don't make the connection between someone who takes it upon themself to determine what is life or which life is worth living and those who make a determination about what is truthful in a theological/scriptural sense. I'm surprised you don't see that connection between those two modes of "I decide".

Baloney. Jesus is all we need and all we will ever need. What is so hard about that?

"Satan must love that Catholics keep showing the world Christ still dead on that cross. It is the image he wants the world to remember."  (CynicalBear post #1224)

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Satan would not like that we point out that the Catholic Church by it's own admission includes paganism. Satan would not like that we point out Catholic contradictions with scripture."  (CynicalBear post #1233)

=============================================================

Perhaps if you spent a little less time meditating so much like that on what Satan loves, and likes, and doesn't like, and a little more time meditating on what God loves, and likes, and doesn't like, you would get a much more accurate understanding of the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church, which was founded and is sustained and protected by God, and you would be able to block out all the glaring misrepresentations and prevarications about God's Catholic Church, which are fostered and foisted by the biggest anti-Catholic of all, the "father of all lies", Satan.

Long after the resurrection, the Apostle Paul said

✝============================================================✝

"But we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles."  (1 Corinthians 1:23)

✝============================================================✝

The Apostle Paul also said, (again, long after the resurrection),

✝============================================================✝

"For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified."   (1 Corinthians 2:2)

✝============================================================✝

Paul also said,

✝============================================================✝

"For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes."   (1 Corinthians 11:26)

✝============================================================✝

Paul is telling us there to "proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes", not just His resurrection.

Today, like St. Paul, other Catholics continue to "preach Christ crucified" using a crucifix.    St. Paul used verbal means to preach Christ crucified, and other Catholics today do that also, and they also use the vivid artistic portrayal of Christ's sacrifice depicted on a crucifix to preach Christ crucified.

A crucifix gives a visual message showing the unbelievably great lengths our Lord Jesus Christ voluntarily went through in order to implement His "plan of salvation" which He offers to sinful human beings.

Catholics also gaze at a crucifix in contemplation of that "greatest" kind of love which Jesus perfectly demonstrated by dying for us.    Jesus had said

✝============================================================✝

"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." -   (John 15:13)

✝============================================================✝

Catholics keep their focus on that "greatest love" demonstrated by Jesus on the cross by contemplating a crucifix.

By the way, Catholics never overlook or forget the resurrection of Jesus Christ.    The resurrection of Jesus Christ is highlighted and stressed many times in every single Mass, including during the congregation's recitation of the Nicene Creed, and in several prayers of the Mass.

And the celebration of Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday is celebrated joyously by Catholics, following the sadness and fasting and other sacrifices observed during the season of Lent, just prior to Easter Sunday.

For anyone to think that a crucifix somehow interferes with a Catholic's consideration of the resurrection is like thinking that looking at a painting of the baby Jesus at Christmas time interferes with thinking about the rest of the life of Jesus.    That is false, absurd, ridiculous, and, really, sheer nonsense.

You mean like this?

Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God:

Baloney. Jesus is all we need and all we will ever need. What is so hard about that? Yes, but the protestants definition of what constitutes Jesus is limited to only what they choose to believe will sustain them personally. It ultimately doesn't have anything to do with what is true, only what is preferable to themselves. Anything outside the scope of their own personal experience is deemed unscriptural, extra, add-on etc. Hence that is why I say protestants practice, "Jesus for me and not for thee."

Protestants really are a selfish self-serving bunch.

Sorry to disappoint you but my friends/relatives do/did not use birth control. Back then we accepted what God sent. Do you? What are you talking about? You are clear as mud. Yeah, drs who saw Down’s babies said they should be shot. This was in the early 1950’s. The Bble is the word of God and it seems that very few of you have any idea what it says. Tis a shame.

Y’all are weird people to believe that. We want the word of God taught to everyone. That is why groups of people from Protestant churches go all over the world teaching that. Y’all just believe what you are told without reading what God teaches in His word. It must be so hard not knowing what God teaches. I could not survive without reading His word.

=============================================================

Wait a minute CynicalBear -- you skipped over this part of that same 12th chapter in Deuteronomy:

✝============================================================✝

But you shall seek the place which the Lord your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there; thither you shall go, and thither you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering that you present, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock.   Deuteronomy 12:5-6

✝============================================================✝

CynicalBear, do you mean to tell us that you still observe those Mosaic laws concerning burnt offerings and animal sacrifices depicted in that chapter you quoted from, even after the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ?

Y’all are weird people to believe that.

Why is it weird? To a protestant another persons belief in Jesus is considered valid until it has been deemed not. Because the protestant has set themself up as the final authority on what is true and what is not. Interesting how the truth of the Real Presence in the Eucharist was known to be true for for over a millenia and a half, until all of a sudden it was not true. And why? Because truth became a matter of opinion.

We want the word of God taught to everyone.

Correction: What someone has interpreted the Word of God to mean taught to everyone.

Y’all just believe what you are told without reading what God teaches in His word.

Assuming that's true, and we just do what we're told. What's wrong with that? Is truth a democratic function? I swear you'd think protestants found the Constitution in Sacred Scripture they're so in love with themselves and their "autonomy".

I wonder what happened to all of those illiterate people who couldn't read the Word. What happened to them? Were they lost to eternal hellfire? Or maybe God, in His magnificient wisdom, knew that for the sake of humanity He should not rely solely upon the written word to bring forth His Divine Revelation but provided us with a Church. Imagine that. A living, breathing, teaching Church protected for all time from teaching error and not allowing evil to consume it. Now which seems more likely? That God provided a Church for all, or a book for only those who could read and write?

I understand. When confronted with the truth about our Blessed Mother's place in salvation history, one doesn't have much to say. Don't worry, I won't wait up for your response.

I don't hate protestants. In the normal course of events I feel incredibly sorry for them. They're ignorant and for the most part I can deal with that. It's only when they combine their ignorance with arrogance that my level of detestation rises. It's one thing to be ignorant but protestants sure aren't humble about it. Not only are they experts on their own faith but then proclaim to be experts on mine and proceed to tell me, with such insolence, what I and every other Catholic on the planet believes.

If protestants had the true Faith then they wouldn't feel compelled to compare/contrast with the Catholic Church.

The *true Faith* isn't going to save anyone.

People should be aware of the difference between having faith in their faith and faith in Christ.

Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.

Foolishness to the Greeks and a stumbling block to the Jews but to those being saved, the wisdom of God.

Except that when Catholics bring up Luther, then it's a different story, and the worst the Catholics can do is accuse him of saying stuff he didn't.

We have Pelosi living and breathing among us whom the Catholic church accepts and treats as a member in communion with it by serving her communion.

You should just concede anyway. Mary was necessary.

No she wasn't. Any Jewish virgin with the right lineage would have done.

Her Yes to God echoes throughout eternity. She chose, of her own free will to become the Mother of God and bring our Savior into the world.

No she didn't. She didn't have free will to begin with if God kept her from sin. Additionally, God didn't ask her permission. The angel told her how it was going to be. He never asked her.

God's plan would not have been thwarted if Mary had not been willing to accept God's plan for herself.
