The Catholic Defender: Mary, Queen Of Heaven
http://www.deepertruthblog.com ^ | August 19, 2014

This coming August 22, the Feast of Mary, Queen of Heaven will be celebrated throughout the world. Deepertruth will focus this Tuesday on this most important topic.

The Marian teaching “Queen of Heaven” is steeped in Old Testament tradition.

There are those who misunderstand this teaching and will even claim it is Pagan. Nothing can be furthest from the truth.

Some will surely want to raise the scripture coming from Jeremiah 7:16-18, “You, now, do not intercede for this people; raise not in their behalf a pleading prayer! Do not urge me, for I will not listen to you. Do you not see what they are doing in the cites of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem? The Children gather wood, their fathers light the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven, while libations are poured out to strange gods in order to hurt me. Is it I whom they hurt, says the Lord; is it not rather themselves, to their own confusion?”

The queen of heaven that Jeremiah is speaking of is not the Blessed Virgin Mary who is the true Queen of Heaven, but rather a false god. The Israelites worshiped Pagan gods that displeased the Lord. The Babylonians worshiped a woman called “Ishtar“, she was the goddess of love and war. Prostitution was a part of the temple worship. She was known to have had many lovers.

Contrast this with the Blessed Virgin Mary who represents chastity, modesty, faithfulness, and love of God. She is the purest of God’s creation. Unlike Ishtar and other female goddesses who were worshiped and called “God the Mother“, the Blessed Virgin Mary is called Mother of God. Not because she is a goddess, she is not, but because Catholics recognize Jesus as Divine. He is truly God and man.

Is Mary the true Queen of Heaven, is there such a position within the kingdom of God? The answer is yes, and this Queen is the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The foundation for this is found in 1 Kings 2:12-20. “When Solomon was seated on the throne of his father David, with his sovereignty firmly established, Adonjah, son of Haggith, went to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon. ‘Do you come as a friend?’ She asked. ‘Yes’, he answered, and added, ‘I have something to say to you,’ She replied, ‘Say it.’ So he said: ‘You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel expected me to be king. But the kingdom escaped me and became my brother’s, for the Lord gave it to him. But now there is one favor I would ask of you. Do not refuse me.’ And she said, ‘Speak on.’ He said, ‘Please ask King Solomon, who will not refuse you, to give me Abishag the Shunamite for my wife.’ ‘Very well,’ replied Bathsheba, I will speak to the king for you.’ Then Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king stood up to meet her and paid her homage. Then he sat down upon his throne, and a throne was provided for the king’s mother, who sat at his right.”

Bathsheba thus became the first Queen of Israel, the Queen was not a wife of the king, but the King’s mother.

Jesus is truly the Son of David, The angel Gabriel spoke of Jesus saying, “Behold, you (Mary) will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:3-33).

Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me. I will give the victor the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself first won the victory and sit with my Father on his throne” (Revelation 3:20).

We see a glimpse of this heavenly glory with the Messiah in heaven in Psalms 45. In verse 9-10 we see a very important scripture relating to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It reads, “daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stand the Queen in gold of Ophir”. Psalms 45:1-9 refers to Jesus and verses 9-17 concerns this queen. The same Queen St. John writes, “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Revelation 12:1).

Psalms 45 continues to say, “Hear, O daughter, consider, and incline your ear; forget your people and your father’s house; and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your Lord, bow to him; the people of Tyre will sue your favor with gifts, the richest of the people with all kinds of wealth. The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes; in many colored robes she is led to the king, with her virgin companions, her escort, in her train. With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king. Instead of your fathers shall by your sons; you will make them princes in all the earth. I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations; therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever”(Psalms 45:9-17).

Notice that the “rich” seeks her favor, just like Adonjah had first sought Bathsheba’s intercession.

The Queen of Psalms 45 will be remembered and celebrated in all generations, and the people will praise her forever.

Is there any other woman in history that can fit this description? Hillary Clinton?

This praise will not be worship that is given to God alone, but it will be honor and petition.

Notice what Mother Mary says, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever” (Luke 1:46-55).

Psalms 45:9-17 and Luke 1:47-55 speak of the same person. The Virgin Mary, as the Queen of Heaven represents Jesus Christ in all that she does. There is no likeness to the pagan goddesses that were worshiped by the Babylonians and the cultures surrounding the nation of Israel in the Old Testament.

Bathsheba knowingly and willingly deceived Solomon and this is who Mary is modeled after???

And then Solomon refuses the 'Queens'' request and murders the one the Queen was pimping for...This is your Queen Mary??? Wow!!!!!!

1Ki 2:24 Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

What will Christ say to you at the moment you die since you don’t honor his mother in a similar fashion?

Why are you accusing rawcatslyentist of dis-honering Mary??? What has rawcatslyentist done to dis-honor Mary???

If she is lying on 1, is 14 a lie too? Protestants would have diverse answers to that.. and watching their squirming wouldn’t be pretty..

It's pretty well known that in all accepted lies, there's an element of truth...

Yeah, I've been known to kneel and pray in front of a Mary statue as well. But I'm not stupid enough to think the statue is the real Mary, nor do I think Mary is God!

In fact, on the way downtown from here there are two Mary statues in front of homes: We call them the "Big Mary" and the "Little Mary". Each usually gets a prayer but neither gets worship or misidentified as a deity.

Of course she can hear them. Why do you doubt?

So you say she IS omnipresent. I don't know where scripture says that, so it must be Catholic lore.

Unless you spot some moisture on the statue that looks like a tear.

Why do you make that erroneous leap to think that in order to hear everyone's prayer requests, one would have to be omnipresent? One is not based upon the other, nor do they mean the same thing.

When the choir sings in your church, can you hear all of them singing, from all their different locations in the choir loft, or just one person among them in one location in that choir loft? Who gives you the ability to hear all of them at the same time? (For that matter, who is is that gives you the ability to hear just one other person, or to ever hear anything at all?)

It is God who gives you the ability to hear anything. Do you believe God is omnipotent? Do you believe God is powerful enough to enable a person to hear 100 people in different earthly locations at the same time? A thousand? Just where (at what number) do you think God's power ends in enabling (by His power) a human to hear different voices from different "earthly" places at the same "earthly" time?

"If Mary was sinless, why did she need a Savior??? "

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

If a person falls into a stinky, slimy quicksand pit, and a kind person comes along and pulls that other person out of that pit, and saves that person's life, that person was saved.

Likewise, if that same kind person saw another person about to fall into that same stinky, slimy quicksand pit, and the kind person reached out and grabbed the other person's hand and prevented them from falling into that slimy pit, that person was also saved. One was saved before falling into the slime, and one was saved after falling into the slime. Both were saved.

This source puts it better:

Consider an analogy: Suppose a man falls into a deep pit, and someone reaches down to pull him out. The man has been "saved" from the pit. Now imagine a woman walking along, and she too is about to topple into the pit, but at the very moment that she is to fall in, someone holds her back and prevents her. She too has been saved from the pit, but in an even better way: She was not simply taken out of the pit, she was prevented from getting stained by the mud in the first place. This is the illustration Christians have used for a thousand years to explain how Mary was saved by Christ. By receiving Christ’s grace at her conception, she had his grace applied to her before she was able to become mired in original sin and its stain.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that she was "redeemed in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son" (CCC 492). She has more reason to call God her Savior than we do, because he saved her in an even more glorious manner!

(I urge you to read the whole article. It is very enlightening.)

Oh I forget, it was Billy Bob and Marcel, from the 1st Baptist Church that really safeguarded Holy Scriptures and handscribed them into a readable Bible. Two thumbs up for Billy Bob and Marcel.

"If you were to treat any other person or object in the same fashion, it would be immediately condemned as idolatry, even by the RCC."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

That simply is not true.

If a protestant kneels before their open Bible and prays to God, are they worshipping the Bible?

Likewise, when a Catholic kneels to pray, or to ask a saint to pray with them and to pray intercessory prayers for them, (possibly using a picture or a statue to focus their mind and heart), they are not giving them the worship due only to God, but only great honor. Prayer to God is worship, prayer to fellow created beings like saints or guardian angels is not, and it does not take a great deal of discernment to be able to distinguish those two types of prayer.

God Himself gave Mary great honor. Out of all the human beings who have ever existed since the beginning of time, God only chose one single human being to bring Jesus Christ into this world in His humanity, and that special person was not you, and it was not me. It was Mary. God gave Mary the greatest honor ever given to any human being, the honor of bringing Jesus Christ into this human world in His humanity.

You can claim over and over and over again that the Catholic Church teaches the worship of Mary, but that is simply not true (and you must know where Jesus said all untruths come from).

From His cross, Jesus shared His own Mother with His disciple and with all of us:

When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!”

John 19:26-27
We should all honor our Mothers.

No, I didn’t say that. She is empowered by her son, Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Trinity and God the Father. All the power is from God.

In a counterfeit world, man can rationalize lies as having elements of truth so they are accepted.

but no lie leads to The Way, The Truth and The Life...

What she points to isn’t Truth..her testimony is false. Not on my opinion. But on His Word...

Proverbs 14:5 A faithful witness will not lie. But a false witness utters lies.
Proverbs 14:25 a true witness delivers souls, but he that utters lies causes deceit.

It should be pretty well known that the father of all lies is not interested in pointing to God’s Truth...deceit and counterfeits is his game.

Proving all things is a dangerous exercise that should be thought out completely before attempting.
It may change one’s entire worldview and have scriptures like ‘Satan deceives the whole world’ come clearly into view as prophetically occurring each and every day-especially in these last days..

Mother and daughter are united in much that, two years ago, I didn’t question. It was just givens.like 2+2....

Those givens are not givens anymore.. and by His grace, I see the world exactly as we should expect it to be with the father of all lies ruling here-counterfeit..
And greco roman latin mother and daughter churches are not immune to counterfeits..they are world leaders, sadly..

Number 14 on that list is either a lie or truth..half truth isn’t truth.. not when we are talking Holy.

If it is truth, then His Word is shown to be false..

If it is lies, then each believer has questions to ask themselves and their Heavenly Father..

Either His Word is Truth or ‘our lady’ is truth... they both cannot be.,
Catholics have made their choice-
Protestants may have made the same choice...

You need to do better than that...If you are standing on HollyWood and Vine, and your choir is singing its heart out in Yuma, Ariz., you ain't hearing nothing, unless you are omnipresent...And you're not and neither is anyone else in heaven except God...

God only chose one single human being to bring Jesus Christ into this world

"Chose" or "created"? I would re-write that to say:
"God created one single human being to bring Jesus Christ into this world"

I'm not a Catholic, just a low information, non-denominational Christian.

I see Mary before, during and after Jesus as unique among humans, but radically beyond the common man after Jesus' conception, and then again after His death, and again after hers. Each a level shift and all due to and for the absolute Glory and Grace of God.

From what I've read so far, I see Mary (Mother of God) as redeeming Eve (mother of man) and Eve's original sin and Jesus redeeming each and all of us sinners and our sins that flowed from that original sin.

I don't understand all of the math and how things fully balance thanks to Jesus and His Mother Mary (Mother of God!), but my sense is they are the reason the cosmic math equation can/will balance.

Regardless, just from a 10 Commandment point of view, I'd be very, very reluctant to dis Mary in any way, shape, manner or form.

Using Jeremiah to do this seems almost willfully confused, given the timeline, but like I confessed, my understanding is in the "Low Info" category and I'm seeking to be like a child in spirit.

As such, praying seems more like having a conversation and there is nothing wrong with calling Home and having a conversation with the Holy Family, including Mom.

Me: "If you were to treat any other person or object in the same fashion, it would be immediately condemned as idolatry, even by the RCC." Your response: That simply is not true.

You know you might be right. Given the syncretism that is rampant in the RCC, particularly in the under-developed world, I probably made an overstatement.

Prayer to God is worship, prayer to fellow created beings like saints or guardian angels is not, and it does not take a great deal of discernment to be able to distinguish those two types of prayer.

Actually, to accept your argument requires a total lack of discernment. How is this not a case of the logical fallacy of special pleading?

Of course, God gave Mary a great honor - no Protestant denies that. No Protestant has anything but admiration for Mary since she was God's selected hand-maiden. However, praise and honor are due to her son, not Mary. Anything that diminishes or draws attention away from the accomplishments of Jesus Christ, God's chosen Messiah, in redeeming His People gets into the area of false worship.

You can claim over and over and over again that the Catholic Church teaches the worship of Mary, but that is simply not true (and you must know where Jesus said all untruths come from).

You apparently have me confused with someone else. I only posted two previous comments to this thread, one of which said nothing about Mary veneration. I generally avoid these Catholic-Protestant spitting matches. If I have stated it 'over and over and over,' maybe because it is that the typical Catholic response is 'no, we don't.' Your assertion proves nothing, no matter how many times you say it.

Your John 19 reference proves nothing other than Jesus was concerned about His mother's earthly welfare and responsibly assigned her a specific guardian. While you're looking up special pleadings, you might want to brush up on the definition of eisegesis - you just provided a great example with your John 19 reference.
