Catholic Nuns Back Obamacare Contraception Access
RD Magazine ^ | 3/14/14 | Patricia Miller

Posted on 03/16/2014 1:01:07 PM PDT by marshmallow

The National Coalition of American Nuns has announced their support for women’s right to access contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act as the Supreme Court prepares to hear the historic Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood cases. While the plaintiffs in these cases are Mennonites and evangelical Christians, opposition to the contraceptive mandate was largely spearheaded by the Catholic bishops. Several key cases of Catholic non-profits, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, are making their way through the lower courts and may well end up in the Supreme Court themselves.

“NCAN is dismayed that the Little Sisters of the Poor, the University of Notre Dame and other Catholic organizations are challenging the Affordable Care Act. Spurred on by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops these organizations are attempting to hold hostage all women by refusing insurance to them for contraceptives,” said the 2,000-member group in a statement.

“This has gotten out of hand,” Sister Donna Quinn, head of NCAN, told RD. “It isn’t ‘faith and freedom’ when reproductive autonomy isn’t extended by the Catholic Church to women. Now we have other Christian religions seeing what the bishops are doing and saying we will do likewise. It isn’t freedom when a woman can be held hostage by the owner of a business.”

This group was censured by the Vatican several years ago.
They are hetetics.

A phony group who’s leader escorts women into abortion clinics. This is NOT a Catholic organization.

500, per post 16. There’s a large national organization of ... not exactly really orthodox-leaning ... women’s religious congregations, but apparently this one is for the really hardcore fruits and nuts.

Women religions ... “nuns” by convention ... can’t always be easily labelled. We have a “liberal” old nun in my parish. However, years ago, she was an inner-city school principal with strict ideas about drill and discipline. I’ve gone to talk to her more than once about family issues, and she’s very old-school, “You keep making them do the right thing. Someday they’ll appreciate it.” And although her order is not one of the attention-getting neo-orthodox, some of them (mostly older ladies) are still in the mission trenches where a 5-gallon jug of clean water is a miracle.

Whatever happened to the nice nuns who taught me in Catholic school-the ones who would smack me in the back of my head with a ruler just for hanging out with kids who didn’t attend Catholic School?

How many actual nuns are members?

From the article...

"Spurred on by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops these organizations are attempting to hold hostage all women by refusing insurance to them for contraceptives,” said the 2,000-member group in a statement.

So there’s a slightly larger insignificant number of them. (Who reads the article? ... me, usually, but this time I didn’t bother.)

Meet Donna Quinn, the flaming heretic behind NCAN. Thanks to Father Z’s blog where this appeared.

CICO (variation on CINO) = Catholic In Career Only

I have watched them, here in the Diocese of Honolulu and
across the country. They are unwilling to assent to the
Church's moral teachings, especially sexual moral teachings,
and so they quickly move through the list and become heretics in all areas.

They are not wanted by true blue religious organizations of
like mind (ie Protestants) and so must hang on for dear life to
the regular PAYCHECK dispensed by some Catholic organization.

That is all.

Sister Donna Quinn is a walking, talking example of what is wrong with the Catholic Church. Send her packing - OUT!!!

My younger sister is one - a teaching assistant at a Catholic school, hasn't been to confession in 25 years (she told me), a big-time Obama idolater, supporter of gay marriage, and on and on.

Donna Quinn, individually, was rebuked by the church and her apostate group labeled heretics.
She is a nun the way Benedict Arnold was an American General.

I had the pleasure of cross examining one of these bitter old bats a few years ago although she at least had the grace to call herself an “ex-nun.” Evidently she had been a cloistered nun which the judge didn’t think was a particularly good resume enhancer to testify about custody issues. He actually said that. LOL My poor Jewish client didn’t know what “cloistered” meant.. But we won.

The National Coalition of American Nuns (NCAN) was founded in 1969 in the wake of the reforms of the Second Vatican Council and in tandem with the social justice issues percolating throughout the American landscape at the time. The organization’s main mission is to study and speak out on issues that deal with peace, social justice, human rights, and women’s equality within the Catholic Church and society at large. NCAN did not form with the help of the church hierarchy and is not officially sanctioned by it. NCAN’s advocacy of issues such as the ordination of women, an inclusive attitude toward gay men and lesbians within the church
Another way to put it is, NCAN is to the Catholic Church, what the Westboro Baptist Church is to the Baptist Church...

Thanks for the elaboration. They are still Roman Catholic nuns though, right? Are they not subject to a bishops authority?

There's a problem with the wording there.

She may have been rebuked by the church, but the problem is that she is still a nun.

Until the RCC gets serious about ousting those who flagrantly defy Catholic teaching, they're going to have no end of trouble and will continue to lose credibility by the day.

Most of these nags probably aren't even Nuns.. Nuns lead a monastic life, and don't leave for their "day Jobs"..Apparently these nuns have day jobs of subverting Church teaching, attending Women's ordination Conferences, and escorting women to Abortion Clinics.

In effect, they have already incurred excommunication on themselves. I am sure there are some other Bishops who excommunicate these heretics, but Raymond Burke is the only one that I know who has done so publicly.
