Thomas S Monson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ordered to appear before British magistrates' court amid claims that the organisation's teaching amounts to 'fraud'
A British magistrate has issued an extraordinary summons to the worldwide leader of the Mormon church alleging that its teachings about mankind amount to fraud.
Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been ordered to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London next month to defend the church’s doctrines including beliefs about Adam and Eve and Native Americans.
A formal summons signed by District Judge Elizabeth Roscoe warns Mr Monson, who is recognised by Mormons as God’s prophet on Earth, that a warrant for his arrest could be issued if he fails to make the journey from Salt Lake City, Utah, for a hearing on March 14.
In one of the most unusual documents ever issued by a British court, it lists seven teachings of the church, including that Native Americans are descended from a family of ancient Israelites as possible evidence of fraud.
It also cites the belief that the Book of Mormon was translated from ancient gold plates revealed to the church’s founder Joseph Smith by angels and that Adam and Eve lived around 6,000 years ago.

From the lowest to the highest they are: hell, and then three levels of heaven: the telestial, the terrestrial, and the place where God dwells, the celestial (also called the kingdom of God). The celestial is also divided, the highest level being "exaltation," or becoming a God.

EXALTATION: This is becoming a God in the highest level of the celestial kingdom.
ETERNAL PROGRESSION: The teaching that each of us has the potential to become a God just like God the Father did. He was once a man capable of physical death, was resurrected and progressed to become a God. GOD: Usually means God the Father. He was once a man like us capable of physical death and he progressed until he became a God. He has a body of flesh and bones, but no blood. Within Mormonism, Gods, angels, people and devils all have the same nature or substance but are at different stages along the line of progression to Godhood.
GRACE - The Mormon concept of grace means making oneself worthy of the grace of God by doing good works in the church, temple, and community.
HEAVEN-The Mormon church teaches there are three levels of heaven (three "degrees of glory"):
HELL: A place of torment from which the worst of sinners are resurrected (if they repent) into the Telestial kingdom; only a limited number remain in hell forever, - the devil and the demons and apostates who consciously reject and work against Mormonism.
SALVATION: A word that Mormons qualify in one of three ways: unconditional or general salvation is simply resurrection from the dead, granted to all through Christ's atonement; conditional or individual salvation involves entering the celestial kingdom through works of Mormonism; full salvation means exaltation to become a God as a result of temple ceremonies and other works. The word 'salvation' can have a two-fold meaning: a) forgiveness of sins and b) universal resurrection:

Yes. Hard to prove, though. You’d have to have an admission of some kind, a smoking gun. Otherwise, how do you prove what is in a person’s heart?

Anybody know what Thomas Monson’s options are? Can he just ignore it? Is the U.S. going to be party to the extradition of a U.S. citizen to answer to a U.K. judge about questions arising from religious texts?

Lots of money and spare time are the only requirements.

Tom Phillips, who brought this action, has received the second anointing so his exaltation has already been determined right here, right now, on this earth.
He has not resigned from COLDS nor has he been excommunicated. People may call him an ex-mormon and I believe he does as well, but he has taken no steps to formally leave the COLDS.

Part of it may be due to the fact that JimRob has made clear that he doesn't care for people who argue against creationism, and thus doesn't want to get into discussions which might result in being banned.
I'm among those think the idea that the earth was created somewhere around 4000bc is very doubtful. Particularly since the scenario involves the idea that Noah's Flood happened around 2500BC (give or take a few centuries depending on what source you look at), leaving the earth to be re-populated from the contents of the Ark. Since, around that time, there were already established civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China, with large populations and written records, it sounds pretty unlikely.
But I have better things to do than get into long arguments with people who's viewpoints will not be changed, and who will just disbelieve any data which would act to contradict the Biblical timeline, so I won't participate in Creationist arguments any more.
Interesting thought here...just why did the mormon temples in England lose their tax exempt status restornu?
