Gary McFarlane, a 48-year-old solicitor and part-time counselor with a relationship counseling charity, was sacked when he refused to endorse same-sex relationships as equivalent to those of heterosexual couples. Prometheus caused blind hopes to live in the hearts of men. ~ Aeschylus' "Prometheus" (fifth century B.C.) Prometheus having his liver eaten out by an eagle. Painting by Jacob Jordaens, c. 1640. The ancient Greek myth of Prometheus is the tragic and enduring narrative of a heroic figure who many publicly despised but secretly venerated, because he did feats of strength that others had neither the vision, intellect nor the heart to achieve. Prometheus, renown for his clever intelligence, became a champion of humanity when he stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals. For this crime Prometheus was...

British street preacher Andy Robertson says all he wants from his community in eastern England is the freedom to disagree. Police have threatened to arrest the U.K. preacher for allegedly making homophobic statements. Once a month Andy Robertson makes his way to this street corner in Gainsborough, England. Wednesday, 27 May 2009 Religious Freedom in England Today ( On the 20th May I gave a talk on Religious Freedom to the Young Catholics Group at the Brompton Oratory a number of people have asked me for a copy of what I said so here it is) I begin by referring to a story that some of you may have heard of a couple of years ago a Crematorium in Devon removed its crosses on the basis that they did not want to Cause Offence” to non Christians and in particular to Muslims. The subject of this Crematorium was...

The Advertising Standards Authority in Britain received more than 300 complaints about the advertisement, a promotion for the Israeli Red Sea resort town of Eilat. The Syrian Embassy and pro-Palestinian groups complained about it because the featured map appeared to show the territories Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war – the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights – within the borders of the Jewish state. Syrian Embassy spokesman Jihad Makdissi said the move follows days of lobbying to get rid of the advertisement, which he called offensive. Although Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005, it...

Great Britain's decision to ban Michael Savage because of his "extreme views" marks a dark day in the history of free speech. The shame should be particularly severe in a nation that gave birth to John Stuart Mill, the 19th century political philosopher whose writings so strongly advanced the cause of open dialogue. Mill argued in his pivotal essay "On Liberty" that intolerance to hear opposing views amounts to an assertion that the politically correct view is infallible. Doubting that any human view could be without error, Mill fought hard to convince readers of the importance of encouraging the expression...

I have a confession to make; I am a fan of Dr. Michael Savage. Before you get all blue in the face and start screaming at me about how hateful he is I will admit sometimes he says things I don’t agree with. I didn’t agree with everything my grandmother used to say either but I never threw her under the bus when it served my purpose like a certain President of the United States. Dr. Savage sometimes uses language I find offensive but then again so do Barack Obama and a number of his friends.

I consider myself a reasonable person. I do not subscribe to any of the many conspiracy theories designed to strike fear in the hearts of patriotic Americans. I have studied world history and American history and am a paid political commentator with my own daily talk radio program. And the news this week that my colleague Dr. Michael Savage has been banned from Great Britain sent a shudder down my spine. While Michael joins the likes of the Honorable Geert Wilders, Dutch parliamentarian, he is also on the list with racists, murderers and radical Islamic terrorists. Oh, excuse me, "man...

I don't believe for a minute that the United Kingdom decided to ban entry to U.S. talk-radio star Michael Savage on its own initiative. First of all, Savage was not asking to enter the U.K. Second of all, while Savage is a big fish in the U.S., his program is not widely known across the pond. What would possess Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to single out Savage on a short list of 16 people worldwide who would not be welcome? I think I know the answer. But first, you have to understand the backdrop to this story. Barack Obama and...

When I awoke Tuesday morning, I ambled over to the computer, as is my wont, and made my usual cyber rounds. I logged on to the Drudge Report and, lo and behold, saw the following headline, "RADIO HOST MICHAEL SAVAGE BANNED FROM UK FOR 'EXTREME VIEWS'...." "Wow," I thought, "Britain strikes again." The prohibition is the handiwork of England's Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, who included Savage on a list of 16 unwelcome individuals whom she wanted to "name and shame." According to Beverley Rouse writing in The Independent, Smith says this is "so others could better understand what sort of...

Sixteen people banned from entering the UK were "named and shamed" by the Home Office today. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to make public the names of 16 people banned since October so others could better understand what sort of behaviour Britain was not prepared to tolerate. The list includes hate preachers, anti-gay protesters and a far- right US talk show host. "I think it's important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't...

Savage's colleagues react in horror 'Thank God we broke away from that cowardly country' WASHINGTON – Michael Savage's talk-radio colleagues and competitors reacted in horror today to news that the No. 3 host in the U.S. was banned from entering the United Kingdom "As a host who witnessed first hand the hate speech not only tolerated but encouraged by the U.K., I am appalled and amused at the suggestion that Michael Savage is banned from the U.K. for his speech," said Rusty Humphries of Talk Radio Network. "Thank God we broke away from that cowardly country." Lars Larson, a Pacific...

A deliberate campaign to enforcce “diversity” and political correctness by “unelected or quasi-governmental bodies” is turning Britain into the “the first modern soft totalitarian state”, an Australian political science expert and author says. Hal Gibson Pateshall Colebatch, an Australian historian, author, poet, lecturer, journalist, editor, and lawyer, has warned in an editorial in the Australian that while there may as yet be no concentration camps or gulags in Britain, “there are thought police with unprecedented powers to dictate ways of thinking and sniff out heresy, and there can be harsh punishments for dissent.” He points to the dozens of cases...
