Vanity: Beware of False Prophets, False Prophecy
Excerpts from http://bible.cc/matthew/7-15.htm ^

Posted on 12/24/2011 1:00:53 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Excerpts:

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Kings 13:18 The old prophet answered, "I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the LORD: 'Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.'" (But he was lying to him.)

Jeremiah 23:16 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.

Ezekiel 22:27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

Daniel 11:34 When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them.

Matthew 7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 24:11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible.

Luke 6:26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

John 10:12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

Acts 13:6 They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,

Acts 20:29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.

Romans 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Revelation 16:13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Because they are simply Christians. The same way the Catholics, the Episcopalians, the Lutherans, the Mennonites, and on and on and on, are Christians.

tell me, without “church tradition”, how would we KNOW which books are canonical and which are not?

I've already answered that which tells us about your reading/comprehension skills. I said "The Bible is Gods Holy Word because that is the way He wanted it." All things work to the will of God. Jesus fought "church tradition"s when He confronted the Saduccees and Pharisees. And when you say Christians never have kept the Sabbath and never will, you've gasted my flabber. Did the Apostles keep the Sabbath? Were they Christians? Will the Sabbath be kept in Heaven? Wasn't Jesus the Lord of the Sabbath? Mark 2:27,28

so the Bible contains an inspired table of contents.

you might not like it, but without “church tradition” you and i would have no idea what books are inspired and which are not.

God uses Sacred Tradition to give us His Word.

on the Sabbath, no the Apostles did not keep the Sabbath and the Sabbath will not be kept in heaven.

JESUS IS OUR SABBATH, WE REST IN HIM.

Of course those scriptures apply to anyone who tries to pervert the Gospel.

An even more appropriate reference is from Galatians 1:8-9 and its context:

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!”

I have a question....how did B. Young and J. Smith die?

Me? Joseph Smith was in jail for treason. He had declared martial law and called out the Nauvoo Legion. That was his own created army and he gave himself the rank of General. He referred to himself as General Smith and wore a General's uniform. This was after he had ordered the Nauvoo Expositor (a newspaper) destroyed and the type scattered because it had printed one copy that, among other things, accused him of polygamy. At the time, Joseph Smith publicly lied and said he wasn't a polygamist, although he had many wives, including women who were already married to other men, 14-year old girls, and girls he had pressured into marrying him by telling them the eternal souls of Smith and their entire families depending on them marrying Smith.

While in the jail, he had also ordered the Nauvoo Legion to come rescue him. They didn't. They and the Danites had already been involved in deadly action against non-Mormons, including the U.S. military. Mormons smuggled pistols into the jail to Smith and his brother. When a mob came, Smith shot and killed at least two men. Springing to the window, he called out the disgress sign of the Masons, but was shot and killed after murdering two men. So, he was in jail for committing treason, after ordering destruction of a printing press for exposing his polygamy, and was killed after murdering two men, while trying to give the Masonic sign of distress.

Brigham Young was almost certainly poisoned by arsenic by one of his wives.

Do I pass?

• Vanity .... Merry Christmas from a Mormon

Wednesday, December 22, 2010 12:09:32 PM • MARTIAL MONK to 47samurai

Looks like it’s time to dust this off.

When I was a youngster I had the opportunity to bounce around the West and Midwest working on farms and ranches. Sometimes it was for relatives, sometimes for friends and sometimes on transient crews drifting from job to job. I wasn’t always the best on the crew but I always did my best. I was a willing hand and the reputation spread; strong as a mule and pert near as smart. I always had a job.

I was young, very young, to be on my own and my parents had the usual concerns. They allowed me the privilege of hanging with what sometimes could be a rough crowd on one condition: that I attend services at least once a week. It usually wasn’t difficult, I’d just tag along with whoever I was working for, or roust one of the other hands from their Sunday morning hangovers for a ride into town. If we were bunking in town I’d look in the phone book for the nearest Church or just take off walking. Rarely was it more than a few blocks before I found a congregation willing to take in a wayward soul for a day.

It was an adventuresome time and I met some fine people, some of whom are friends to this day. Depending on what part of the country I was in I was exposed to all kinds of religions. No matter what the shingle on the outside said, there was never a question but that I was in the House of the Lord and in good company. There were Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists, Mennonites, Mormons, Disciples, and Episcopalians and often a building with a simple cross, without name or denomination.

Sometimes I didn’t understand all of the rituals and traditions and doctrines but there were always willing teachers to whisper explanations of what I was seeing and what I was supposed to do. I gained an intimate understanding of just how deeply religious and good this country really is. They didn’t convert me from my chosen religion nor did they try. I was a guest and a welcome stranger, different but kneeling before the same immutable God. My mumbled apologies about my rough clothes would be brushed aside as unnecessary and I was welcomed in full fellowship in the spirit of the Lord.

If anyone should ever doubt the future of the Republic, I suggest that they take a Sunday off from services - the Lord will forgive - and be there, outside, as they end. Watch as those big doors shake, then crack and then fling open with the youngun’s spilling out onto the lawns, clear eyed and excited. Remember your youth as the older boys, hair slicked and awkward, imitate their parents as they talk to bright-eyed girls, the same as it has been for twenty American generations. Parents and older folks follow slowly as they greet and catch-up on the news from neighbors and friends. The strength of America is not in armored divisions or banks or governments, it is here in the heartland under the guiding hand of a merciful God, block after block, Church after Church. The Republic will stand.

My folks were a mite forgetful and it seems that every time I came back, they had moved and neglected to tell me the new address. I always found ‘em though, no matter how hard they tried.

Since that time I’ve kicked around the west some. I know these people. I’ve been to their baptisms, their weddings, their funerals. I’ve worked with them, played with them, drank with them, fought with them, hunted with them, fished with them, rodeoed with them, and prayed with them. Out here we aren’t much into asking if a man is praying to a Catholic God or a Mormon God, or a Baptist God. It’s enough if a man is inclined to bow his head and touch a knee. We may not worship or see God in exactly the same way but I’m right beside him with a prayer of my own. Before one bowed head is raised in distraction those who would disrupt are going to have to come through every man jack and bullrider north of the Platt and west of the divide.

I am eternally grateful to all the fine folks who took the time to welcome this wayfarer into their Churches and homes no matter how fleetingly. Seemingly fresh in my memory are the dozens of Sunday dinners in strangers’ homes set in Norman Rockwell backgrounds. As I enter the twilight of a life rich in the blessings of the Lord I count those moments as the most blessed of my life.

For those who would defile the sacred bonds of this religious affinity, I pledge an unending enmity. We have seen enough of Klan against Catholics, Liberty Lobby against Jews, hicks against Mormons. There are differences in every religion and I respect those. I have chosen my own and I pray that I have chosen rightly. I will fight to my last breath for those who have chosen to break bread with me.

My God commands this.

Merry Christmas and may God Bless.

AMERICA! RESURGENT!

Truth is written in The Holy Bible.

Yes, but that very book says that the Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth.

“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.” 1Tim 3:15

Merry Christmas!

***IMO, the Mormons have more Chritianity than most. ***

I know of several Christian groups and a few cults who claim to have a corner on Christanity. They believe that “WE are right and YOU are going to H€!!” They are the most sancitmonious self-righteous people you will ever meet. But they come off as very good people to outsiders.

There are Mormons who are Christians
_________________________________________

No there are not

Theyre either Mormons or they are Christians...

They either Follow the LORD Jesus Christ or they “follow the prophet” Joey Smith...

Either the LORD Jesus Christ is their Judge and Saviour

or the pagan Joey Smith is their judge and saviour

But never both..

Mormonism is not Christianity..

The LORD Jesus Christ is God...

Joey Smith is a resident of Hell..

What I don't like are false conclusions.God uses Sacred Tradition to give us His Word. read Mark 6:7,8 to see how mans tradition stacks up to Gods Commandments on the Sabbath, no the Apostles did not keep the Sabbath and the Sabbath will not be kept in heaven. A mouthful there. I would bombard you with verses but here's just a few Ex 20:8-11 Look at that word "Remember", as if we would forget. Rev. 1:10 John knew what day the Sabbath was. Luke 4:16 Jesus kept it but you cannot? Matthew 24:20 about an event years after the crucifixion. Acts 17:2 Paul kept it as well. Hmmmm.

And there is ONLY ONE TRUTH.

you need to take off the Ellen White glasses when reading Scripture.

the Church keeps the Apostolic Tradition as commanded by Paul, not the “tradition of men” condemned by Jesus.

Acts 17:2 does not say Paul kept the Sabbath.

After Pentecost, the NT does not record any Apostle keeping the Sabbath.
the “Lord’s Day” is the first day of the week, the day Jesus rose from the dead.

Jesus is our Sabbath, we rest in Him.

please “bombard” me with NT verses that tell us we need to keep the seventh day sabbath after Jesus went to the cross.

Any hack writer can pound out a copy of a gospel according to Jesus.

Case in point...

The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus
the Christ

The Greatest Book Ever Written

The Greatest Story Ever Told

Transcribed from The Book of God’s Remembrance (Akashic Records)
by Levi H. Dowling (1844-1911)

CHAPTER 55 (Jesus in Egypt)

Having passed the seventh brotherhood test, Jesus receives the seventh,
and highest degree, THE CHRIST. He leaves the temple a conqueror.

THE work of Jesus in the Chamber of the Dead was done, and in the temple purple room he stood before the hierophant,
2) And he was clothed in purple robes; and all the brothers stood. The hierophant arose and said,
3) This is a royal day for all the hosts of Israel. In honor of their chosen son we celebrate the great Passover Feast.
4) And then he said to Jesus,
Brother, man, most excellent of men, in all the temple tests you have won out.
5) Six times before the bar of right you have been judged; six times you have received the highest honors man can give; and now you stand prepared to take the last degree.
6) Upon your brow I place this diadem, and in the Great Lodge of the heavens and earth you are THE CHRIST.
7) This is your Passover rite. You are a neophyte no more; but now a master mind.
8) Now, man can do no more; but God himself will speak, and will confirm your title and degree.
9) Go on your way, for you must preach the gospel of good will to men and peace on earth; must open up the prison doors and set the captives free.
10) And while the hierophant yet spoke the temple bells rang out; a pure white dove descended from above and sat on Jesus’ head.
11) And then a voice that shook the very temple said, THIS IS THE CHRIST; and every living creature said, AMEN.
12) The great doors of the temple swung ajar; the Logos journeyed on his way a conqueror.

Just wait till he gets to India!

****
Would you really trust your soul to this drivel? so why trust Joseph Smith the moneydigger.

then you do not believe in the Christ of the bible

1Cor 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1Cor 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Cor 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1Cor 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1Cor 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

1Cor 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

1Cor 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

1Cor 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

1Cor 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

1Cor 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which [was bestowed] upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

1Cor 15:11 Therefore whether [it were] I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

1Cor 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

1Cor 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

1Cor 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain.

1Cor 15:15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

1Cor 15:16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

1Cor 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith [is] vain; ye are yet in your sins.

1Cor 15:18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

1Cor 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

1Cor 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1Cor 15:21 For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead.

1Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

1Cor 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

1Cor 15:24 Then [cometh] the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

1Cor 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

1Cor 15:26 The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.

IMHO that is like saying all “Christian” churches profess to follow Christ’s path. Ask that question to Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Some churches spew hatred instead of the love that Christ has given us.
