Pope's Visit to the UK: He Came, He Saw, He Conquered Hearts. Now the Work Begins
Catholic Online ^ | 9/21/10 | Deacon Keith Fournier

There is a near universal acclaim for the pastoral visit of the successor of Peter to the United Kingdom. The crowds, the depth of his messages in every venue, the obvious hunger of the faithful for the truth of the ancient faith, all added together to make this trip both memorable and historic.

However, though Pope Benedict has physically departed and returned to Rome, the mission he elaborated in this historic four day visit has only just begun. It is the New Evangelization of the Church in the United Kingdom and then, through her, the unfolding of a new missionary age dedicated to re-Christianizing the European continent.

The reaction of the secular Press to this Papal visit is worth noting. Only a few months ago that press was predicting the Pope would be arrested upon arrival. If not, that he would at least be greeted with throngs of angry protestors. Ironically, though there were some protests, the numbers were relatively small. The real numbers in this story were the massive crowds which gathered in every one of his venues to listen to this humble and deeply reflective Christian leader. The response of the secular press is revealed in comments made by David Wiley of the BBC news:

"What has struck seasoned observers of papal tours is that people everywhere have responded spontaneously to the Pope's evident humility and his ability, even when talking serious theology, to communicate simple moral concepts in plain language. As David Cameron plans to say later, as he bids farewell to the Pope, the 83-year-old pontiff has caused the whole country to sit up and think."

However, the Pope did more than call the UK to "sit up and think", he called the Nation to kneel down and pray...

I never stopped being a sinner when I was saved.

Then let's all be enthusiastic sinners and be saved.

Let's all continue to rack 'em up just like the poor shmucks who are on the road to hell. Great........you get the best of both worlds. You can sin ad libitum knowing you've already made a reservation in heaven.

Sweet.

Your comparison with Muslims is unbecoming but not unexpected.

I'm not the one boasting about how "Jesus has conquered my heart" while showering foul-mouthed F-bombs on those who contradict me. And the comparison with Muslims is entirely apt. They too, believe they have a free pass when it comes to certain behaviors provided they're doing Allah's bidding.

Especially considering your longstanding support for pedophile-priests.

If Jesus has truly "conquered your heart" then I'm forced to conclude that Jesus must be a liar.

Prove me wrong and post a link.........any link....which supports that loathsome statement.

Question: if one is already saved, just exactly how much can one get away with before one's ticket is voided? Slander and false witness are obviously fine. So is foul and abusive language.

How about drunkenness? Stealing my neighbors wife? Violence?

You are thinking as man thinks and not as God thinks.

The Holy Spirit was with the Pope.

Sit on the sidelines and watch for the next four to five years.

elsewhere on the Pope's visit "His speech was the culmination of a tour aimed at re-evangelising a country he believes has slipped away from its Christian roots. "

"In a warning to some of the English bishops who are seen in Rome as liberal and sympathetic to arguments from the gay lobby and feminists, the Pope added: ‘As you proclaim the coming of the Kingdom, be sure to present the life-giving message of the Gospel, including those elements which call into question the widespread assumptions of today’s culture.’ "

Yes, the key thing is that Europe MUST be re-Christianized. Whether these efforts are done by Catholics, Orthodox, Pentecostals, Methodists, Baptists, etc. that’s irrelevant. We all have a common enemy —> a rabid secularism that seeks to destroy our religious views. The UK’s laws could make christians who preach the word of God as outlaws for “offending other religious sentiments” or “homophobia”. Fie on them.

“Finally, I would like to say a word to you, my dear young Catholics of Scotland. I urge you to lead lives worthy of our Lord (cf. Eph 4:1) and of yourselves. There are many temptations placed before you every day – drugs, money, sex, pornography, alcohol – which the world tells you will bring you happiness, yet these things are destructive and divisive.

There is only one thing which lasts: the love of Jesus Christ personally for each one of you. Search for him, know him and love him, and he will set you free from slavery to the glittering but superficial existence frequently proposed by today’s society. Put aside what is worthless and learn of your own dignity as children of God. In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks us to pray for vocations: I pray that many of you will know and love Jesus Christ and, through that encounter, will dedicate yourselves completely to God, especially those of you who are called to the priesthood and religious life. This is the challenge the Lord gives to you today: the Church now belongs to you
Beautiful!

Actually, I’ve been re-reading the life of Martin Luther for the past few months and have re-evaluated him (personally) — I see also that the Lutherans share many of our orthodox beliefs like apostolic succession, the True Presence, etc., and also in the times of Martin Luther, he lived in a broken Germania in which unfortunately many prince-bishoprics were created and where the clergy were horribly corrupt. The presence of the Borgia pope didn’t help things either. Martin’s initial aim to cleanse the Church from within speaks positive for him. Even Martin Luther was horrified by the madness let loose after his initial reformation attempts and he despised people like Zwingli and I believe was wary of Calvin and would have been horrified by the radical reformists.

Christ did say that the world would hate His people, His Church, the One Holy Apostolic Catholic Church. And, the more we get haters here, the more it seems apparent. Thank you!

Do you mean to say that you never stopped sinning when you were saved? Interesting...

Whoa -- I just read this:
Speaking with reporters during the flight from Rome, Pope Benedict said that he recognized anti-Catholicism as a force in Britain, but was not disturbed by it. He voiced his confidence that a deeper, stronger, fundamental commitment to the Christian heritage would also come into play. When asked how he would propose to make the Catholic Church more attractive to the people of Great Britain, he gave a surprising answer:

I would say that a Church that seeks to be particularly attractive is already on the wrong path, because the Church does not work for her own ends, she does not work to increase numbers and thus power. The Church is at the service of another: she serves, not for herself, not to be a strong body, rather she serves to make the proclamation of Jesus Christ accessible
Now THAT is a message worth repeating

One will never stop sinning until they get to heaven and become perfect.

That’s why one’s works will never get them to heaven. There is none righteous no not one.

I simply need Jesus, not a church, pope, Mary or human proclaimed saints.

Actually the cult is your own group of 10 people like the Westboro Baptists or the Branch Davidians. Such a small number led by a flawed charismatic leader ARE the cults. little rebellions against God. No wonder they seldom last a few years and most die out in a century.

cool, so you keep repeating the same sins and not repenting for them! And believe that since you're part of The elect elite caste of Calvin that you will go straight to heaven while the non-Calvinists (Methodists, Catholics, pentecostals, Orthodox, etc) all don't, eh?

Cute, but I have nothing to do with Westboro types.

Your arrogance is biblically flawed, Jesus said, “For where two or more are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them.”

No massive Vatican churches, infrastructure, Pope, Mary’s, holy water or smokey incense necessary.

You see, it’s so simple! And that is what the Vatican is afraid of because salvation doesn’t require anyone but Jesus!

Again your presumption is wrong because I’m not a Calvinist.

I do repent for my sins and am required to confess them albeit to God directly and not a sinful priest. Just because I confess doesn’t mean that God won’t punish me however I am still eternally saved from hell because He promised never to leave me.

Cronos, salvation isn’t determined by religion. The first man who went to heaven with Jesus was a common thief, he didn’t have time to join a church. He simply asked the Lord to remember him after realizing he was a sinner and that Jesus was truly the son of God and Savior.

It really is that simple.

Dear lastchance,

I understand that Bullwinkle J. Moose has retired from his position of being “Mr. Know-It-All”

You should consider sending in your application for the job, you certainly are qualified.

God’s Holy Spirit will ‘revive’ and glean again those with a heart after God in any significant degree from Europe

or it won’t get done.

He will likely use all indwelt by Him of all groups, denominations, congregations where HE reigns at all in His purity and power in the lives of the individuals involved.

I believe God WILL BE world-wide demonstrating His redeeming power and majesty yet again for a time—that as the dark gets darker, HIS LIGHT WILL GET LIGHTER—that as the enemy comes in like a flood, GOD WILL RAISE UP A STANDARD AGAINST HIM—that it will be THE BODY OF CHRIST UNIVERSAL’S FINEST HOUR BECAUSE OF GOD’S DOINGS in the lives of individuals SOLD OUT UTTERLY TO HIM.

Some will be martyred in a blaze of glory.

Some will exact great conquest over and devastation to the enemy in great glory.

The global government will still have more or less effective control over all the nations of the world as Scripture declares for 3.5 to 7 years.

However, God will still HAVE HIS WAY.

GOD WILL STILL HAVE THE EVIL DOERS AND SATAN HIMSELF IN DERISION.

GOD IS STILL GOD OF THE ANGEL ARMIES. The 2/3 of God’s angel armies could route the enemy’s armies in a flash without breaking a sweat.

Europe will not be “re-Christianized” by any megachurch project or mission outreach—regardless of the denomination, structure or media savy.

NOT BY MIGHT, NOT BY POWER BUT BY MY SPIRIT, SAYS THE LORD OF THE ANGEL ARMIES.

The close of history as we have known it and known of it will not be a conquest of one set of political or social or even RELIGIOUS forces over another.

It WILL BE the utter obliteration of the forces of satan by God and HIS angel armies, by HIS SPIRIT. Armageddon will settle a LOT of scores for a good long time.

And then after the testing period at the end of the millenium of Christ’s Peace, the enemy will be done with forever. Praise God for that!

The magicstericals of every RELIGIOUS flavor will have to step aside. Their cogitations, rumminations, schemes, strategies etc. will not be adequate nor wanted.

This will be HOLY SPIRIT’S GIG BEGINNING TO END.

He will largely be using unknown individuals, children, youth, God’s angel armies, the fierceness of HIS WIND, HIS VOICE, HIMSELF.

HE WILL BE THE BOSS, THE GENERAL, THE STRATEGIST, THE DIRECTOR, THE CHOREOGRAPHER, . . . GOD ON THE SCENE.

His church will not be a sniveling, quarreling, rag-tag bunch of bedraggled beggars groveling crumbs of victory where they can steal them from a successfully conquering enemy.

HIS CHURCH WILL BE HIS CHURCH TRIUMPHANT BY HIS BLOOD, HIS SPIRIT, HIS WORD.

Details of God’s script are highly classified. They will be played out in God’s way in God’s timing in absolutely strict concert with the broad outlines given in Scripture.

GOD IS INFINITELY BETTER AT BEING GOD THAN THE ENEMY IS AT BEING THE ENEMY.

God is better at snookering and surprising the enemy than the enemy is at snookering and surprising Believers.

God may end up with what appears to be merely a remnant.

That remnant will be TRIUMPHANT.

That remnant will rule and reign with Christ forever.

This is boot camp. This is training for ruling and reigning.

The stage is being set for the final act on this section of the eternal dramas.

THE KING IS COMING.

LONG LIVE THE RETURN OF THE KING.
