Gary Bowyer, an archaeologist with the BLM out of Carson City, and Dana McGowan, from Sacramento, use screens to separate dirt from possible artifacts Tuesday at the site where it is believed members of the Donner Party camped during the winter of 1846.

Which reminds me: What ever happened to the Buoys, whose greatest hit included Timothy?

Hungry as hell no food to eat And Joe said that he would sell his soul

For just a piece of meat

Water enough to drink for two

And Joe said to me, "I'll have a swig

And then there's some for you."

Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you

Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?

It was the bottles of A-1 Steak Sauce that attracted their attention.

Just in time for lunch . . .

My advice: stick to the salad. Avoid the main course.

Investment opportunity alert:

I am thinking of opening a dinner [he means diner] in Truckee, CA called the DONNER PARTY DINER. It would serve items such as: BBQ ribs; Breast, leg and thigh platter; finger steaks; rump roast diner [he means dinner] ... etc. I have ideas for tee shirts, menus and the look in the restaurant itself. I think it will be a great tourist stop in the Sierras. Anyone out there like to front the capital?

A soldier in the Mexican-American war in 1847 is promoted to captain for his perceived bravery but soon transferred to a remote outpost in the Sierra Nevadas when the cowardly truth becomes evident. The outpost's keepers seem on the brink of madness in their own ways, and what passes for their tranquil is shattered by the intrusion of the lone survivor of an ill-fated expedition that ended in murder and cannibalism.

Sis and bro-in-law are leaving the Golden State (gee, wonder why?) for a life back East.

Sis will fly back with infant son, while bro-in-law drives the rental truck, accompanied by their two large, smelly dogs.

I kid them that their odyssey is like a very hairy, drooly Donner party in reverse. <|:)~
