2,000-year-old 6ft 6ins warrior giant discovered

The remains of an enormous warrior who fought more than 2,000 years ago have been found in Kazakhstan.

The soldier was heavily armed and stood around 6ft 6ins tall.

Archaeologists believe he was well-built and revered by people who buried him with his weapons.

The BBC says the warrior lived around the first century BC.

Historians say this may lead them to re-examine the origins of the region's people.

Though the article doesn't tell us if he died of old age, or in battle, it kind of sounds like the latter. A case of "The bigger they are, the harder they fall?"

Actually, my thought was that Goliath might have been a member of a tribe of Giants from the Kazakstan region. Imagine what price a mercinary giant could command during a time when all combat was hand-to-hand.

Actually the average Roman soldier was about 5'5" but the Celts, Vikings that were also in eastern europe were commonly over 6'.

If I remember correctly, Goliath was a Philistine. And I think they came from Crete. But I could be wrong. Actually, I think the existence of giants is interesting. There are tales of them throughout folklore, so I am certain they have existed. I would like to know more about them. I basically know nothing of the Kazakstan region.

This is a riot! I adopted a son from Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. He's 12 years old, and stands taller than his older brother. If you want to get a mental picture of the people think Genghis Khan, Nomad Monguls and Yurts (round tents).

While in the orphanage there he drank fermented mare's milk (kumiss). He had rickets when we adopted him at approximately 3 years old, and grew 6 inches the first year with us drinking the vitamin enriched milk and taking plain old cod liver oil. My pediatrician actually recommended the stuff, and boy, did it work! I don't know if it's in his blood, but he's a whiz at the fiddle and has an uncanny connection to horses. We're still trying to get him to eat with a fork, though.
