China Scientists to Probe 'ET' Launch Tower

BEIJING (Reuters) - A team of Chinese scientists is to head out to the far west of the country to investigate a mystery pyramid that local legend says is a launch tower left by aliens from space, Xinhua news agency said Wednesday.

Nine scientists would probe origins of the 165 to 198-foot tall structure -- dubbed "the ET relics" -- in the western province of Qinghai this month, the agency said.

It sits on Mount Baigong, has three caves with triangular openings on its facade and is filled with red-hued pipes leading into the mountain and a nearby salt water lake, Xinhua said. Rusty iron scraps, pipes and unusually shaped stones were scattered around the inhospitable and largely uninhabited area, it said.

A research fellow at a nearby observatory of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said the theory the pyramid was created by extra terrestrials was "understandable and worth looking into," it added

Xinhua did not report any details on the age of the structure, or any other possible explanations for it.

This is not the work of extra-terrestrials, earthling. It would date back about 10,000 years to the height of civilization before the Phoenician sea-trade empire. It is also not related to anything more than earth-orbiting mapping satellites.

Or perhaps they will the remains of an alien being who once emitted such a bright light the Chinese were nearly blinded.
Which could explain the squinty eyes of the Chinese...

I do hope those Chinese scientists bring a hefty supply of tin-foil so the aliens inside the "pyramid" won't be alerted to their presence by reading their minds.

Last I heard, the really big, really pyramid-y looking pyramid in central China had been planted with pine trees, in order to make it look like a natural hill. And people think the suppression of ideas is non-Marxist. ;')

I hope they don't wake up the Wraiths sleeping inside.

Well, we know that nothing that happened in China before 1948 matters. History began with the revolution. I view the interest in old sites as a good sign that the grip of the maoists is loosening.

There was an article in NatGeog some years back, regarding the Euro-mummies and whatnot in western China. A bit of pottery was found which had the fingerprint of the potter. That's not uncommon. The secret policeman overseeing the dig asked the writer of the article whether the fingerprint could be ethnically differentiated. The writer said he didn't know. He noted that he never saw the pottery fragment again.

Tom Bombadil to the rescue! Those weren't wraiths though. Unless this is from a video game reference...

Scully: "Mulder, stop pulling on the chain. You're hurting my ankle!"

Mulder: "If we don't finish breaking down this mountain to build the new road, that'll be the least of your worries. Swing your sledgehammer faster, Shorty."
