New York Times reporter Frank Rich asserted this morning while on the phone with Don Imus that the chaplain Father Mychal Judge was gay.
You all may rememeber the priest who we all saw being carried out of the WTC after being killed by falling debris. He was listed as the first official fatality from the attack.
This revelation came as acomplete surprise to Imus and his on-air staff.
Does this matter? Does it warrant further investigation to see if there were any claims of inappropriate behavior or pedophilia in his past?
Or perhaps we should just let him rest in peace and let him be remembered for all the good he was reputed to have done during his long life.
Has anyone else heard this allegation. Rich claimed that the story had been reported in the New yorker magazine as well.

Apparently it didn't matter. He's just as dead as if he were straignt.

Aren't priests supposed to be asexual? His orientation could only be known if he practiced it...IMHO. Does this make sense or am I confused?

The Homo-agenda gang and I suppose Catholic bashers will exploit whatever they can. I think we should all hurry now and interview all the WWII vets and their survivors as well to determine how many of them were gay and publicize it.
While we're at it, let's publicize how many same sex pedophiles are gay....how many NAMBLA members are gay.....how many in the media are gay......just another identity tag for victimhood.

I watched a memorial service for Fr. Judge on one of the cable access programs recently. According to the friends who spoke, he was evidently open about his orientation, but nothing that was said indicated that he acted on it.

Someone posted a thread similar to yours a few days after 9/11; it had its share of gay-bashing, but there were a large number who said "let's give it a rest and let Fr. Judge rest in peace."
I favor the latter.

Does it matter? It did if it kept him from being in a state of grace at the time of his death. I have heard he was killed instantly by a falling body.

"This revelation came as acomplete surprise to Imus and his on-air staff."
I find that difficult to believe since articles making this assertion have been on FR off and on since shortly after Sept. 11. Imus surely cannot fail to have seen some of them.

Apparently it didn't matter. He's just as dead as if he were straignt.Worth repeating with emphasis. All that mattered was he was a hated American infidel, just like the rest of us...

Another Screw Up by the Catholic church. I have no tollerance of their inappropriate deviant tollerance! Priests are supposed to be celibate. They are not to announce their sexual preference or have sex.... PERIOD!

Yes, it matters. It matters if he was living a secret life in contradiction of his vows. It matters if he was abusing young men. It matters if his superiors knew and looked the other way. It matters to many who routinely place their trust and confidence in these erstwhile men of God who hide their own transgressions while deigning to offer forgiveness and prescribe pennance. It matters because their numbers are growing and the spreading cancer will one day surely kill the Church.

I think the Church is strong enough to survive.

I could see Bernard, Lou or Charles being lurkers or even freepers but no way would Imus put forth the effort to read what gets posted here.

Priests are supposed to be celibate. They are not to announce their sexual preference or have sex.... PERIOD Your ignorance is showing. The Church teaches that homosexual orientation is NOT sinful, only homosexual behavior is. It is possible for a gay man to be celibate just as it is possible for a straight man to be. Announcing your sexual preference is NOT the same thing as having sex, for goodness sake! (And he DIDN'T "announce" his preference, he just didn't try to mislead anybody about it.)
To: RLK
Doesn't matter to me, but he might have had to answer to his heavenly father, especially if he practiced it. My wish is that all homosexuals would come out of this unnatural act. Aids can sure cut their life short.

I saw Imus' reaction live. He had not heard it before. That was clear.
