Vice President Harris is entering into hairy territory — sharing the history of her hair.
The vice president opened up about her much-photographed locks in BuzzFeed’s Cocoa Butter video series “Hair Story,” released Monday.
“As long as I can remember, my mother would part our hair down the middle and put it in two tight braids,” she said.
“I wanted to wear it out,” Harris, 59, said, recalling the work-around she devised as a grade schooler.
“It’s so funny because I’d go to school — so [my mother] would put it in the two braids — and then as soon as I got to school, I’d take the braids out,” she said with a laugh.

When the movie “10” starring Bo Derek caused a rush to imitate her hair there was a comedian who said “I just got back from a vacation in Africa. All the girls there are just like here, rushing to get their hair done in dreads like Bo Derek.”
She's a bit young to be an original Marley fan, I'd suspect that the older guys that got her coke and pot were fans though.

Mother Indian. Father Jamaican. BOTH were here on student visas in the early 60s. Harris tells their meeting as a meet-cute at some protest, but I say they both wanted citizenship so they married and popped her out immediately. IMO, they stayed married only long enough to get the US citizenship papers submitted then split. One went to Canada, the other somewhere else.
Well, that clinches it for me. She’s got my vote.
I wore braids until I rebelled at 12. Mine were German style.

Her father is Jamaican but West Indian, not black. Quemala is not black.
