The Republican establishment begins to understand that lawfare endangers them, too

One of the things that’s been vexing for many conservatives is how passive the Republican National Committee has been when it comes to the lawfare being waged against Donald Trump. Don’t they understand that Trump is the trial balloon and that, if the lawfare against him is successful, it’ll be used against all Republicans? However, an opinion piece at the Wall Street Journal that Jeb Bush co-authored suggests that, finally, the GOP is becoming aware of the global threat of lawfare.

The GOP never liked Trump. One of the things to remember about Trump’s presidency is that, for the first two years, Congress had a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate. Nevertheless, Trump was unable either to get rid of Obamacare or to gain funding for serious border control. In those cases, and many others, it was the Republicans who stood in the way. The Democrats’ ability to undermine him reflected not just the opposition’s animus but also a civil war within the Republican party itself.

That civil war was reflected in the fact that many Republicans have been muted, at best, in responding to the lawfare being waged against Trump. You can see them thinking either that “eh, there’s no smoke without fire” (as in, if Democrats are suing or indicting Trump, there must be something there) or they’re thinking, “thank goodness they’re getting rid of him for us so that ‘real’ Republicans can fully control the party.”

The problem with either of these lines of thinking is that they’re crumbling under the weight of reality. The conduct of the trials and the verdicts against Trump in the New York civil cases revealed that the judges and anti-Trump attorneys involved had no regard whatsoever for silly little things like due process, rules of evidence, legal procedure

It is a marxist war against freedom. Republicans need to decide which side they are on.

“The Republican establishment begins to understand that lawfare endangers them, too”

Only took them 8 YEARS, which is pretty good for them.

Trumps old saying that you may think they are coming after me, but in reality they are coming after YOU and I am just in the way!

They’re too stupid and greedy to understand that.

It will bring it all down, all of it, into chaos and tribalism.

And they could not care one whit.

It is proof they could not care less about this country.

They should have figured this out when the rats set up that kangaroo court for impeachment 1.

“They should have figured this out when the rats set up that kangaroo court for impeachment 1.”

It would be interesting to know how many Republicans actually supported the Democrats in the impeachment of President Trump.

Absolutely - you’d think they would have figured it out after collaborating with the Dems on The Steal. But what was the FIRST THING the Dems pushed in 2021 - passing a federal law to LOCK-IN The Steal and be able to use it against them.

...but no, 3 years later maybe they’re first starting to get it.

I need to add this: hats of for Jeb Bush.

It takes a big man to stand up for what is right even if you could stay quiet and watch as your opponenet gets mauled by wolves.

If you think about it, it actually started in 2009 when lawfare was initiated against Sarah Palin. She was bombarded with lawsuit after lawsuit eventually causing her to step down from the governorship avoiding bankruptcy.

All of the lawfare has been directed at conservatives. The establishment GOP and moderates have been unscathed.

Trump and anyone affiliated w/him. People who questioned the elections. J6 patriots. AG Ken Paxton. Etc.

The Uniparty has nothing to worry about.

I know Jeb personally.

I would like to claim that I convinced him to write this.

That would be a lie.

As we get older we start to get brutally honest with ourselves about things we did well and things we are not proud of—perhaps Jeb is beginning to figure it out—that he had become part of the problem instead of part of the solution.

What has happened here is that first they went after Alex Jones and everybody smugly said well I am not Alex Jones.

But now the list is getting longer—and a lot of folks are starting to worry that some day they may might be on it.

Fear is not necessarily rational—it is just fear.
