The depopulation bomb imploding in China is more powerful than ever according to shocking new figures just published by Australia's Victoria University in Melbourne.
It just seems like last month [It was just last month, Steve — editor] that I reported for you that Chinese women seemed to be voting against strongman Xi Jinping's return to True Communism™ with the only means available to them — their uteri. Live births were down in 2023 by another 500,000 under 2022's dismal figure. That puts the People's Republic fertility rate nearly at 1.0, or about half of the 2.1 required just to keep the population from shrinking.
Unchanged, as I'm sure you've already figured out in your head, each generation in China will be about half the size of the preceding generation. What that means down the road shocked even me, and I've been following this story for years.
“Our forecasts for 2022 and 2023 were already low but the real situation has turned out to be worse,” said Victoria University senior research fellow Xiujian Peng. His research, along with that of China's Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, indicates that China's population will shrink to 525 million people by the end of the century.
That's barely more than a third of today's population of over 1.4 billion. That also assumed that China's fertility rate continues to hover at about one birth per woman of childbearing age. Practically next door, in South Korea, the fertility rate has dropped even lower, to 0.78.
One reason for the sharp decline is that China is running short of women of childbearing age, with "more than three million fewer than a year earlier," according to the WSJ.

Is birth control readily available and used widely? If so, since China is a totalitarian country , the Communist Party could issue decrees to restrict birth control and restrict abortion. That would help increase their birth rate.
And there would be inducements such as you mentioned about the social credit score.
How crazy is it , they pushed the one child policy for decades and now they have decided that was not in the best interest of their society.

It’s actually already too late for that *now*. Next year, they’re going to have another 5-6 million women age out of the birthing pool *with no replacement*. And it is only going to accelerate.
One Child ran from 79 to 2015. Due to Chinese cultural issues, during that time the Chinese mostly aborted their girls. The last of the women who were born before 79 are aging out and they don’t have replacements. Even after the end of One Child, the Chinese still often abort female babies though not at the rate they used to, so there aren’t distant replacements. Look for Chinese fertility rates to drop to .5 or less *very* soon.
China needed to have realized One Child was a massive failure in the mid 2000s and ended it if they wanted to avoid a demographic collapse - then they needed to implement protections for female foeti over male for a while. It is far, far too late now for them to solve it on internal resources.
Demographic bombs are ugly, ugly things.
Yes, it is widely available though sometimes unreliable (unrestricted Chinese QC control) so less transitory protection is used by many women concerned about unplanned childbirth.
Thing is, it’s already far too late even for inducements to have children (specifically females) and a total abortion ban on girls to have effect in time. They’re screwed and the society is going to massively contract.
While there are other factors in play, one big problem is government policy. Much like in the US, the government, directly or otherwise, is penalizing and therefore discouraging marriage and having children through taxation, incentives, the ridiculous family court system, etc.
Some European countries have realized this and are now offering incentives for women to have children as well as removing penalties for men to marry.

I predicted that 2 things would happen in China to decrease the female population:
1) Infanticide. Ironically, this is coming from traditional, rural societies. Chinese men will not find traditional wives thanks to the society that self-destructs.
2) Westernization. Middle- or upper-class Chinese women, who are generally Western-educated, will become alienated from traditional society and leave. Who can blame them? Who wants to embrace a culture that devalues them? These women will look for Western (white) men instead of Chinese/Asian men.
China basically planted the seeds of her own destruction. (I shed no tears.)
Infanticide of female babies was happening anyway and has for centuries in China. One Child only formalized the proceedings and made it easy to ‘select’ for the much prized male heir if they were only allowed one child. This also happened in the *less traditional* urban societies, not just the countryside.
Westernization has had something to do with it as well - but even the non-westernized women have had issues with the gender gap. All the horny, boorish men that harass them as they walk down the street, etc., has caused a lot of them to leave. Those that liked the attention have had permanent or temporary sterilization with not only the permission but the fervent encouragement of the government! So now they’re screwed there too.
