'Awkward' Ron DeSantis 'has to be told when to SMILE by advisors,' who are now desperate to get him talking with more voters after gaffes derailed his 2024 launch

Ron DeSantis’s campaign wants him to meet and take more questions from ordinary voters to overcome fears about his temperament, DailyMail.com has learned.

The 44-year-old has so far shied away from Q&A sessions on the road, despite being a standard feature of U.S. politics.

Now, three DeSantis staffers have said they have concerns about the Navy veteran’s presentational style after being overshadowed by his wife Casey at rallies.

A third source said that they even had to coach the Florida governor on ‘when to smile’ when trying to interact with ordinary Americans.

I’ve always he needed more seasoning. 2028 would have been a better year for him to run, with using the 4 years to prepare for a run.

Trump was preparing for the day since Reagan told him that he thought that he could be President.

How on earth did he run for Congress and governor before and not appear so ridiculous?

Wasn’t he a SEAL team advisor or something like that?

I can’t recall seeing this odd behavior until this campaign began.

It’s more than a little strange and hard to believe.

There are reports that desantis has always been cold and stand offish during his time in congress, even to other congressmen that he had to work with.

This inability to relate is baked into his behavior and character, which shows up as him being fake.

For instance, when he has to recite other people’s words, when he has to give speeches, the words sound good, but, people can tell it’s just a speech to him...

Could he have Asperger’s?
That sounds a lot like somebody who might have that condition.

The pressure to act now, be ready now is likely very intense.
Not all politicians are born extroverts, polished public speakers and People-Persons. It’s a lot easier to succeed if you are.
Some poor to average public speakers are still quite competent in their field, but being open, friendly, somewhat bold and media savvy is how most politicians are judged for their first impressions.

A more obvious example of an honorable and highly competent person who was not made for public life would be Dr. Ben Carson. I think he was offered the position of Health Secretary for Trump, but he turned it down.

That makes sense, but how did he manage to campaign successfully before?

Maybe I just missed it all.

desantis can't take the heat!

Cheri Waller@CheriWaller1

Eeeeewwwwww! This is so bad!

To be fair, the campaign should provided him with some hand towels to wipe the sweat.

But, it's the neverbackdown super pac that was putting on this event (colluding with a candidate?), so they're the grifting 'professionals'

I am guessing that up till now, Ron DeSantis has experienced most of his political success when he was more or less spontaneous, being himself, and had tighter control over who he was going to speak to when, where and about what.

What we are mostly seeing now, is Ron’s attempt to fit a pre-cast mold that “all presidential candidates” are expected to fit into, more or less. I think republicans would be more likely to stick to the ‘by the book’ template except for a few exceptions who refuse to do that. Donald Trump broke the mold (many times!) for what is considered a ‘proper’ republican candidate. Most candidates are not going to be anywhere near that self assured.

If he ever stumbles or slips somewhere watch for the media and DC Dems to demand he withdraw as unfit to be President.

Also, someone should have told desantis not to wipe boogers on to other people.

DeSantis has had the best political advantage of all: good luck.

DeSantis won his US House seat in the Jacksonville area in considerable part because he was a former Navy officer running in a city with a large Navy base. In addition, DeSantis's wife Casey had been a popular local TV reporter and news anchor and was an energetic and effective campaigners with him.

DeSantis won the GOP nomination for Governor of Florida in 2018 because he was endorsed by Trump, but barely won though against a relatively weak Democratic opponent. With Florida's strong GOP organization and the advantage of incumbency, DeSantis easily won reelection in 2022.

As in Congress, as Governor, DeSantis developed a reputation for having an awkward manner and being hard to get to through staff. DeSantis also tends to churn though advisers, leaving some of them feeling ill-used and hostile. One of Trump's key current advisers, Susanne Wiles, was previously one of DeSantis's key advisers until she had a falling out with him.

I remember the 2018 gubernatorial race. However weak Gillum was, he was on the way to being the first black governor of the state of Florida. Remember, this state voted for Obama’s melanin count twice. It was a huge hurdle for any white candidate to overcome. He was also up against the corrupt election officials in the Broward and West Palm Beach counties at that time.

Happily, there were enough votes to overcome any shenanigans that time, but only just enough. The DNC was perhaps a little too reliant on the historical racial aspect, since it worked so well for Obama.

I suppose if it makes some feel better to read such rumors then so be it. However, unnamed sources are hardly reliable, and I’ve seen the same videos used to say something negative about him prove the opposite of what was claimed.

This site is so desperate to criticize and denigrate Ron DeSantis. You’re obviously afraid of him.

I find Ron DeSantis to be a good guy. He’s well spoken, doesn’t rant, and isn’t always focused on himself. Plus he doesn’t have Donald Trump’s complete lack of tact.

Yes, if Donald Trump wins the nomination, I will vote for him but Ron DeSantis doesn’t act like an embarrassing uncle. This is something that is appealing to many many voters.

Just saying….
