Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vows to restore name of Fort Bragg in NC speech

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, speaking at the NCGOP convention Friday night, said if he’s elected president he would reverse the recent decision to change the name of Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty.

The promise by DeSantis to restore the name of the major military installation just north of Fayetteville, which earned loud cheers and applause from a ballroom full of Republican delegates at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, came just as President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden left newly named Fort Liberty after meeting with members of the armed forces.

The presidential candidate was touting Republican successes in last year’s midterm elections in Florida, and in North Carolina, amid disappointing results in the rest of the country, when he brought up the recently renamed installation.

“I also look forward to, as president, restoring the name of Fort Bragg,” DeSantis said to raucous cheers from the crowd.

He added that he would “thank the people that have served there, and they’re proud of their service there.”

“It’s an iconic name and an iconic base, and we’re not going to let political correctness run amok in North Carolina,” DeSantis said as the crowd continued to cheer.

Earlier on Friday, at Fort Liberty, Biden signed an executive order to enhance employment opportunities for military families. The executive action is intended to improve career stability and expand resources and support for military and veteran spouses, caregivers and survivors.

Fort Liberty, named more than a century earlier in honor of Gen. Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general from Warrenton, was renamed as part of a Department of Defense effort to adopt new names for military installations that were named for Confederate soldiers.

We’re losing the country in every direction. Many of those who are supposed to be on our side are not. We’re surrounded by traitors who are calling the shots. See Trump. My point is at this stage of the game, with our house literally on fire, some politician running for office flailing his arms around for attention and grabbing this for a campaign promise reeks. There are probably 200 more important, more threating issues facing all of us.

Here’s how it works, little issue like changing names is easy. Eazzzzy peeezzze. That’s why they grandstand easy issues instead of staying on the real big, threating issues. Like bussing 39 illegals to venues that already have tons of illegals. Easy headline grabbers...

Btw, they closed a base I spent time at and turned it into a Muslim refugee center for thousands. So I feel your pain.

Let ‘em fight it out
It’s primaries
It’s ugly

I don’t mind De Santis except

He has GOPe backing

His base is exponentially smaller

I generally don’t support who national review does

But I do like what he did in Florida

No, I’m talking about all the explosive out of control growth. I’m talking about the libs that have invaded our neighborhood. I’m talking about every inch of pasture and forests that have fallen to condos. I’m talking about bums and homeless people on every corner..Trump bought and owned his place way before RDS got in 1985.

Its like you know someone for decades and then one day some yahoo comes along and changes this person’s name, for the sole excuse, that the name hurts the feelings of the perpetually offended.

Its insanity.

“No, I'm talking about all the explosive out of control growth.”

Is this troubling building of homes for residents legal, or illegal?”

If it is legal, who voted to enacted the legislation? Was it the Florida legislature?

The reason I ask is because I don't remember you criticizing a single Florida legislator for decades of voting for pro-growth policies.

It seems the growth that troubles you the most is that that has occurred since DeSantis made moves to run for a higher office that did not have a Republican incumbent.

There are reasons to prefer Trump over DeSantis. You ought to find a good one to articulate.

“. . . some politician running for office flailing his arms around for attention and grabbing this for a campaign promise reeks.”

You do know that opposing the renaming of bases named for Confederate generals was an applause line in President Trump's standard campaign speech don't you?

If you want to say something bad about DeSantis, consider saying he is a copy cat for repeating the exact thing that Trump has said.

Of course, Trump is always been way out in front and why DeSantis is trying to imitate Trump. Pay attention.

Why don’t you articulate why you prefer RDS to Trump. My reasons are too lengthy to name but mainly our retirement account. I know Trump can do it, it’s been proven. Sounds like you’ve been listening to Faux News.

“if you had a relative at bragg...it's a HUGE issue.“

As huge as having a Military that supports a POTUS who pulls out of Afghanistan leaving over a billion dollars in advanced weapons to the enemy, runs out on allies, handing over a fantastic base to the enemy and promoting transgender BS through the ranks?

Yeah, name change is way more important than the above.

“You are correct.

I've always stated its America First. There is only one candidate who embodies this platform both historically and presentalky, and he is President Donald Trump. It's why he is so hated and feared. The uni party is over if he retakes the WH. And their weaponized agencies will be gutted and rebuilt. Power will be lost. And these people can't deal with that realiry. I will never again cast a vote for an establishment candidate.”

I stand with you.

Thank you for posting the video. I was a senior in high school when we pulled out of Vietnam. I went to my parents bedroom and watched the Fall of Saigon. My heart was broken.

I will never ever forgive the leaders for that tragedy. How Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos would suffer. Millions died because our leaders failed us and them. My parents educated me well. I knew exactly what The Fall of Saigon meant.

My parents, one a Dutch citizen the other a German citizen and my sister and I both American citizens witnessed what Communist rule meant when entering East Germany and East Berlin in 1964.

Thank you for your service and undying loyalty to this country.

“Of course, Trump is always been way out in front and why DeSantis is trying to imitate Trump. Pay attention.”

And just like that you abandon the position you took in your post number 101.

And you took the advice I gave in my post number 108 and started saying “copy cat.”

I have a feeling I'm going to regret teaching you how to debate.
