Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vows to restore name of Fort Bragg in NC speech

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, speaking at the NCGOP convention Friday night, said if he’s elected president he would reverse the recent decision to change the name of Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty.

The promise by DeSantis to restore the name of the major military installation just north of Fayetteville, which earned loud cheers and applause from a ballroom full of Republican delegates at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, came just as President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden left newly named Fort Liberty after meeting with members of the armed forces.

The presidential candidate was touting Republican successes in last year’s midterm elections in Florida, and in North Carolina, amid disappointing results in the rest of the country, when he brought up the recently renamed installation.

“I also look forward to, as president, restoring the name of Fort Bragg,” DeSantis said to raucous cheers from the crowd.

He added that he would “thank the people that have served there, and they’re proud of their service there.”

“It’s an iconic name and an iconic base, and we’re not going to let political correctness run amok in North Carolina,” DeSantis said as the crowd continued to cheer.

Earlier on Friday, at Fort Liberty, Biden signed an executive order to enhance employment opportunities for military families. The executive action is intended to improve career stability and expand resources and support for military and veteran spouses, caregivers and survivors.

Fort Liberty, named more than a century earlier in honor of Gen. Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general from Warrenton, was renamed as part of a Department of Defense effort to adopt new names for military installations that were named for Confederate soldiers.

If he really wanted to set him self up for 2028 he would pull out to race and throw his support to Trump in order to protest what is going on.

If they were going to rename US bases in the south, they should have picked more accurate, easier to understand names like Fort Hot, Fort Hotter and Fort Hottest.

“This is a major reason why the United States will need conscription to address its shortfalls in military recruiting and retention. You don’t think this is a big deal?”

It’s not a big deal because Trump didn’t say it. If he had, they’d be lighting fireworks and candles on their shrines.

The Nikki Haley history cleansing fan club will be sending you a membership application.

They've been changing U.S. history going back 50 years, back when your boy DeSantos was in diapers. Little issues like wide open violent borders has completely changed our history. It's irreversible. But feel free to latch on this token bull sh*t.

Have to agree. This is absurd and nothing more than pandering.

“. . . stabbed all his supporters and donors here in Florida.”

Sounds like an exaggeration; something you made up in anger perhaps.

Still, New Yorkers are following Donald Trump's lead in flocking to the safe haven DeSantis has helped to build in Florida.

You can't blame them for that.

” But feel free to latch on this token bull sh*t.”

It’s “token” to the Woke who are eager to eradicate America’s history and their neocon fellow travellers.

Left’s Orwellian re-writing of history

Good point. I would order a study. It should take a while. But Bragg was a Confederate. So we should change it from Fort Bragg to Fort Grant or Fort Schwarzkopf.I can respect all the lesser officials for their services and we can name other posts after them but huge bases should be named after our Generals who did something significant in our wars. Just my two cents.

“You know who isn’t a history eraser?
A city slicker from NYC that was our 45th President.”

This is accurate.

Apparently so is his rival RDS.

From what I can see the fellow travellers of the history eradicating Woke Taliban are mostly recent imports and politically correct neocons.

....I have no idea how many tens of thousands of U.S. service people passed through the gates of Fort Lee, Virginia...I am sure that”Fort Gregg-Adams” as it is now known won’t be as easy to remember as Fort Lee....the same with Fort Hood, Texas, now known as Fort Garbanzo or something along those lines....they will always be FORT LEE, FORT HOOD and FORT BRAGG to us old-time veterans....!!!

And for no other reason than its part of the lives of these gallant vets that these places should not be renamed. These progressives will get their way when they want to rename Omaha Beach, Midway Island, or Pearl Harbor.

No one dares to stand up to them.

Florida isn’t any better than it was when Rick Scott was governor. It’s just gotten a whole lot more expensive. Overbuilt and over run. Lots of illegals and homeless people now.

“Florida isn't any better than it was when Rick Scott was governor. It's just gotten a whole lot more expensive.”

Voter registrations decidedly favor Republicans over Democrats now for the first time in history. That is better than before.

Yes, things are more expensive in Florida and most everywhere - in large measure because Democrats AND Republicans in Washington continue to print trillions of dollars and pump it into the economy. This causes inflation. The Florida governor did not cause this.

In one sense DeSantis has caused Florida housing to be more expensive: a lot of people, not just the Trump family, are moving to Florida because it is safer and saner than many other states. People are buying homes at a furious rate and prices are rising.

If your Florida home has doubled in value you are probably not sad. If your adult child is trying to buy their first home in Florida, you probably are sad.

If you can get or afford property insurance too. RDS couldn’t help himself by inviting everyone down here plus bonuses for cops, teachers, etc moving from all over the country. Every single piece of land is being developed . Traffic! OMG! No wonder he wants to bolt.

“RDS couldn't help himself by inviting everyone down here . . .”

I take it you don't like the fact Trump moved to Florida; and you blame DeSantis.

"DeSantis asks Capitol officials to remove statue: Confederate general has been on display for almost 100 years"

You are just as bad as the lying ass media. The only thing DeSantis did was formally request the capitol officials make the switch that was passed the previous year, BY THE LEGISLATURE. The statue was replaced by one of McLeod Bethune, and was in turn to be reinstalled at a museum in lake county, according to the story you referenced. So essentially, he did what the law required him to do. Your namesake world be ashamed of your duplicity.
