Americans are reportedly buying groceries at Walmart and opting out of nonessentials at other stores as inflation troubles President Joe Biden’s (D) economy.
Walmart experienced strong sales last quarter, according to a recent CNN Business report:
The company said Thursday that sales at stores open for at least one year increased 7.4% during its latest quarter compared with the same stretch last year. Its operating income increased 17.3% last quarter.
Walmart (WMT) raised its sales forecast for its next quarter and the full-year, sending its stock up 1.5% during pre-market trading.
During a recent conference call, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon expressed an optimistic outlook on the situation
Nearly half of Walmart’s sales come from its groceries and non-discretionary items. In the last quarter, grocery sales grew by low double digits, the CNN report said.
Now, wealthier families are reportedly shopping there on a more regular basis. The outlet also said other consumers are “trading down into Walmart’s cheaper private-label food brands to save money.”

They can afford walmart?
The Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies that were $2.99 a few years ago were $7.49 at my local Kroger yesterday. Absolutely insane. Being retired military I can shop at the base commissary, where I find most items are almost half the cost of what the local stores charge. Good thing I arranged my finances to where I could still be comfortable in retirement.
No surprise when you consider all the funding for non-essential wars and add in the question “who is going to pay for the flood of non-citizens at the southern border of the US?” Yes, inflation.
I’m service connected disabled veteran so I can shop at the commissary, too bad we don’t have one on the big island.
Move to Guam. It has a commasary.
Food prices at Wal-Mart are through the roof. Even at that, they are a little cheaper than our local grocery franchise, excepting a few fairly good specials, of which Wal-Mart has none.
I’ve gone to shopping at Aldis instead of Walmart now
Closer to home, and as good if not better prices for similar items
Oh the horror! Having to shop at waddlemart! Imagine the humiliation!
Aldi 95% of the time except for meat. Cheaper than WM
I’ve done my bulk shopping at the Walmart Market for years. I still shop there via delivery and purchase everything except meat. It’s a hit and miss on veggies, but they are a lot cheaper than the other stores and I really can’t complain since I’m having them delivered. Most time it’s fine except for the size of cauliflower. I still run to the regular stores if things I want are on sale at a better cost than Walmart.
QUICK,THERE’S OUR NOSY NEIGHBOR...Hide the grocery bags.......
I truly thought this was a Babylon Bee article.
Oh, the horror to be had if a middle class suburban Mom had been forced to shop at Wal-mart! For what would her neighbors think should she run into them while in that smelly store?
Our Aldi is right beside our closest WalMart (and both are about 17 miles away). Our closest grocery is a small one (slightly bigger than Aldi as it adds a small deli and has it’s own butcher shop.) That one is ~10 miles away. They have good meat specials, but only a couple per week.
“Funny” thing is, I was going through WalMart the other day and shaking my head at all the items, food and non-food, up 50 to 100%. But I thought (from a visit a few days prior), “well, at least the Great Value canned veggies are back down to 50 cents a can. I can eat lots of green beans.” So, I turned the corner to the veggies aisle intending to grab a few more cans, and.... they’ve jumped up to 68 cents.
We do find that fresh produce at Aldi tends to go bad a day or two faster than WalMart’s...
Our WalMart is not “smelly”. An occasional customer, yeah, but that might even be me if I stopped by on the way home after mowing at my parent’s old place...
I sometimes shop at Aldi, but their prices have gone way up, too. Still cheaper than Wal-Mart, usually, at least for basics.
Mpre like Dollar Tree and other dollar stores
commissary ain’t that cheap either....some things, but generally not.
