DENVER (AP) — Colorado Democratic lawmakers killed an ambitious bill Thursday that would have banned the sale and transfer of semiautomatic firearms, citing promises made to their constituents and concerns over the sweep of the ban even in a state still reeling from a mass shooting in Colorado Springs months earlier.

Washington state's Democratic-controlled Statehouse cleared a ban on semiautomatic rifles Wednesday, joining the blue bastions of California and New York. But Colorado's Democratic-controlled Legislature was split on the issue, underscoring the state's purple roots, tensions between urban and rural constituents, and an ongoing push-and-pull between progressive and moderate Democrats that has defined this year's legislative session.

The House Judiciary Committee vote followed an impassioned 14-hour hearing that began Wednesday morning and ended at 1 a.m. Thursday. Three Democrats on the panel voted “no” to kill the bill. They lauded Rep. Elisabeth Epps for her moral courage in bringing the bill forward but cited promises they made to their constituents to avoid government overreach affecting most gun owners'

They’ll keep trying. Maybe steal a few more congressional seats.

Even RAT voters are beginning to realize liberalism is a suicidal ethos and it's fast becoming "every man for himself" in a lot of places. Portland. Seattle. San fransicko. Denver. Etc.

The response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes. The response time of a 45 ACP is 850 feet per second. Which would you prefer?

in 1968, because of one man’s ordering a rifle and scope through a catalog,, the great Sen. Teddy Kennedy formed a bill that became law that squashed all firearm sales by mail.

Democrats punish the good folk, and lie in bed with the evil folk, an axiom kept alive for 55 years.

The first question that should always be asked when these ridiculous bills come up is, “define a semiautomatic weapon?”

Get ready! There will soon be a mass killing in Colorado and the law will be pulled out and passed before opposition can be mounted against it!

It happened in California in 1989. The public was so opposed to an AW ban bill it was shelved.

Then the state released Pat Purdy from a mental institution for the seventh time.
He was allowed to legally buy a handgun and rifle in violation of federal law. He even passed California’s waiting period.
He then went and shot up the Stockton school yard killing several students and himself.

The shelved bill was pulled out and passed before any opposition could be mounted against it.

I expect the same thing to happen in Colorado soon.
