Texas Gov. Abbott vows to pardon Army sergeant convicted of killing BLM protester

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott promised Saturday to pardon a US Army sergeant a day after he was convicted of shooting a protester to death during a Black Lives Matter rally.

The Republican said Sgt. Daniel Perry, 35, was acting in his own defense when he repeatedly fired his handgun on 28-year-old Garrett Foster as he marched in the July 25, 2020 Austin demonstration.

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney,” Abbott said in a statement.

The governor blamed the Friday conviction on the county’s George Soros-backed Democrat District Attorney José Garza and promised to reign in “rogue District Attorneys.”....."

A pardon, unlike a commutation, makes everything go away, as if it never happened, records are expunged.

True. However, with this woke military leadership they will find a way to destroy his career.

Why does Abbot feel it necessary to promise to pardon when he can use the same energy and time and just issue a pardon?

Because the Texas Constitution doesn’t give him that power.

Ignorance of something simply means that one is unaware of a given fact or truth. Personally I am ignorant on a vast number of issues.

Stating that someone is ignorant of a given subject is stating only a fact and has nor should have any connotation other than that.

Had I stated that the poster was stupid a fool etc. would have been a different story altogether.

The Sgt will have already been kicked out of the military by the time a pardon comes along. Then there is the notariety.

If a pardon does erase the legal aspects (news to me at this point), it never erases the stress and threats of enduring this legal warfare by the government.

You could have just explained how Texas law works without the “Your Ignorance”
Part.

I have been looking for a video of Foster pointing a gun at Perry and have not found one. Feel free to post one if you have it. If there is no such video, or a compelling photo, the jury would have to decide based on witnesses (Perry and BLM). I would not believe BLM, but I was not on the jury. This photo shows a defense lawyer posing with a toy gun to show Foster's pose. Some jurors would say that pose did not show a man literally pointing a gun at someone sitting in a car, but if Foster had threatened to shoot just before that, I think it's obvious that would justify self defense.

“Your ignorance of Texas law is showing.”

Well excuse me.

The sentence reads:

“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott promised Saturday to pardon a US Army sergeant...” It did not say, “I will lobby/attemp/work with the Commission, etc.” The sense of the sentence means he {Abbot} will pardon.

No, I don’t know Texas law since I don’t live in Texas.

Why do pricks have to be so prickish.

The image is from Gannet. They are far from an unbiased source.

It was dark. The event occurred at a bit before 10 p.m.

Here is a video. It does not show much, but shows the person who was shot talking to the camera before the shooting.

You may want to get your quotes straight...

Governor abbot stated:

“I will work as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry.”

That is significantly different than what you attributed to him.
