If Walmart closed in my location, then the few other grocery stores we have here would offer NO competition as compared to very little as it is.

1200 Shinglecreek Parkway is in Brooklyn Center MN just north of Minneapolis. It has a large reparations-seeking shoplifting population.

What typically happens when a Walmart comes to town is they run all the mom-n-pop businesses out of business. At first, the new Walmart selection is unrivaled and the small operators can't compete on price or selection. Once Walmart eliminates their competition you'll see mostly store brands (many coming from China) and otherwise empty shelves. What used to be small town downtown turns into an empty shell. I've seen this scenario repeated over and over all over the country in my travels in the last 30 odd years. By contrast, go into a small town that doesn't have a Walmart and you usually find a thriving downtown packed with local businesses.

I can’t believe that I’d ever see the United States be so full of corrupted and sick maggots that retailers would start closing down their stores due to the high rates of thievery. The RAT turd roller politicians did this with their dumbass laws declaring crap like shoplifting up to $750 dollars per visit is not a crime and the cops would not arrest anyone doing it. It only made sense to a normal person that retailers would not put up with that turd roller horsesh*t. It’s their job to make money not put stuff on the shelves for azhos to help themselves to.

Out of control shoplifting!!

*********

To a degree Walmart is supporting shoplifting, imo.
Self check out has become the main procedure with
less control over what gets run thru the scanner. You
go in a Wally World today and there may be two check
out lines with an employee and the self check outs
have waiting lines.

Looks like they’re taking the advice of the Dilbert guy (Scott Adams?) and getting as far away and as fast as they can. /s

That, plus the one in Florida are the only non Democrat areas. But I'm also curious as to the reasoning behind closing the one in the Chicago area with a "pick-up only" concept.

Possibly such a change in the neighborhood demographics that even pick-up sales no longer works?

JC Penny’s seems to be surviving unlike Sears and Macy’s.

Don’t overlook the Dollar General impact. We used to say that Walmarts were being built on every corner. Now we say that about DG.

Fewer stores also fights climate change. Two thumbs up!

The answer in one small NE Mississippi town that had a Wal Mart across from the housing projects was to build another away from the projects and close the one next to the projects. When it was across the street from the projects theft was high, they would steal their items and run across the street where they could hide easily without any help from the residents to identify the thieves. Except for the projects the demographics were as expected.

Walmart also brings in other amenities like restaurants and good stores around it to make the area thrive. I’ve seen that in my many travels.

“I remember when the city of Inglewood in SoCal - (black area) defeated a Walmart - the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton flew in to help defeat it (at the behest of local unions, etc.). The area was already a “food desert” - and for good reason.”

Jackson and Sharpton are colorful people for the media and have a monopoly on representing blacks, according to the Left...so they’re the ones on the news.

The people who you will NOT see are the black grandmothers who are forced to take a 30 minute bus ride to buy a quart of milk. The media cares about them as much as they care about the Ukrainians who get picked up off the streets in Kiev to be cannon fodder for Russian artillery - nothing about them in the West, only our puppet, Zelensky.

And speaking of buses in that part of California, they used to be pretty good...until the Left rotted out that system to build their shiny trains - again, those same grandmothers were nowhere to be seen.

Agreed. The self checkout tends to make honest people consider forgetting to scan something.

My dad used to say padlocks are there to keep honest people honest. Same applies to staffed checkouts as nothing get get by the person running the cash register.

I use to have a friend that lived in a small town in Alabama and they had a small Walmart which they shut down. I remember him saying quote
"they shut down our small Walmart, more stuff was going out the back door then the front door"
I don't think I need to say anymore.

Almost always chain stores, though. You rarely see mom-n-pop independent businesses anywhere near a Walmart. The rent prices Walmart brings chases them right out of the ballgame. Walmart is fine if you need a quart of oil or a tube of toothpaste. I would never buy produce or meat from a Walmart. (or Whole Foods, Sprouts or Fresh Market for that matter). Go in one of their store coolers, look around and you’ll quickly see why. Mexico/China/Mexico/China everywhere you look.

"Those locations are being shoplifted out of business"

The one in Florida is a small Neighborhood Market store.
