South Carolina Democratic Rep. James Clyburn funneled six figures worth of campaign cash to two of his family members throughout the 2022 election cycle, filings show.
The longtime congressman's campaign largesse included forking tens of thousands of dollars over to a company linked to his son-in-law. He also sent nearly $100,000 to his grandson, Federal Election Commission records show.
While it's legal for federal politicians to pay family members from their campaigns, ethics experts have generally disapproved of the practice. Despite this, both political parties have taken advantage of the perk.
Clyburn's family payments the last election cycle include $57,500 to 49 Magnolia Blossom LLC for rent expenses, filings show. That company has close ties to his daughter, Jennifer Clyburn Reed.
According to South Carolina business records, Clyburn Reed's husband, Walter A Reed, is the registered agent of the limited liability company.
Clyburn also paid out $94,000 to his grandson Walter A.C. Reed during the midterm election cycle for "campaign management fees," his filings further show.

You think dim and rino politicians become rich by honest means?
Imagine that! Another crooked black Democrat. Nothing will happen to him just like nothing happened to Maxine Waters. I would call this Black political privilege.
There needs to be a law forbidding this use of campaign funds. I’d also be in favor of a law stopping politicians and their families from buying and selling stocks and commodities. The suspicious “rags to riches” story of politicians must stop.

Every time I see stories such as this and then think of how Dinesh D’Souza was treated due to a relatively small political donation to a friend, I get so ticked off!
Just like Maxine Waters and her payments to her daughter for campaign mailers, James Clyburn doesn’t have to go by the same rule as others. Conservatives’ donations and expenses are carefully scrutinized for any small error while the democrats get away with obvious corruption.
A payment to a family member by a Republican will get an investigation and in-depth article on the front pages of NYTs or even the WSJ, while the left will get a article explaining how their payments and expenditures are totally legal and the Republicans are “pouncing” or “seizing” on a minor issue.
But he never will. They gerrymandered a nice safe high-melanin district for him and since blacks vote for their own, the only way Clyburn will ever leave Congress is (a) if he finally wants to or (b) feet first. No other option. Too many critters of both parties are too guilty of the same thing to ever want to shine a spotlight on this.
