RE: A test.
Possibly.

Also could keep us occupied with the distraction (with our badly diminished forces and intelligence capabilities) as they did some things in Taiwan or elsewhere. Just keep looking at the shiny object. Flying over your country.

You just gonna back up the F150 and hook it on and drive away?

“The Chinese wouldn’t risk putting any advanced technology in there in the event we did recover it. “

Lol, good sense of humor! As though Chinese spy balloons could have any sensing technology we’re not familiar with..

Sonic booms don’t create intense flashes in the sky.

A 44 pound warhead, typical of an AIM-120, at 60K feet, would not create much of a flash or a boom to an observer at ground level.

There are at least two of them.

And stop calling is a “spy balloon”. We have no idea what it is, could very well be a new weapon system.

Another possibility:

Apparently Dick Cheney was on a hunting trip in Montana and accidentally shot up a transformer station.... Big explosion.

That would be funny if so... but no. They actually got Lucas Canada to make all-new avionics for the CF-18, with nothing in common with the regular F-18 run. Something that has come back to bite them in the arse over and over.

That depends on what the lifting gas was in the balloon. If it was hydrogen, the missile could have ignited it.

I hadn’t heard about them. That’s a pretty serious sustained power supply for a reconnaissance balloon ... Probably keeping primary li batteries charged

YES! Finally, the zombie apocalypse starts tonight in Montana, as a weaponized virus rains down from that balloon...

My wife and I were literally just talking about that.

Until Obama we were so far away from being any type of conspiracy theorists then Jug-Ears took office and we now would not be surprised if part of that smoke trail was some type of biological warfare.

Our entire government is so corrupt we cannot trust them to tell us any truth whatsoever.

Video cameras are much more sensitive than eyes. I see that all the time with my home security cameras -— I’m not talking about IR night vision mode but just visible light. You should see when 4th of July fireworks go off a couple miles away....

A few years back, I saw video and pictures of one of them crashing while practicing for an air show. The Pilot ejected sideways about a second before it hit the ground. Another rocket on the ejection seat turned it upright and got a bit of height. The pilot ended up hurt, but not life threatening injuries.

We certainly have the equipment to fry their electronics in a slow moving balloon. Why not just make their spy equipment useless? They don’t have to shoot it down.
