Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) took aim at former President Donald Trump when asked about his reaction to the House Jan. 6 panel’s criminal referral of the former president to the Justice Department on Monday.
“The entire nation knows who is responsible for that day. Beyond that, I don’t have any immediate observations,” McConnell told reporters when asked about the House select committee’s findings.
The committee, led by Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), recommended to the DOJ that Trump, 76, be charged with inciting or assisting an insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to make false statements to investigators, and conspiracy to defraud the US government.
The panel had said it uncovered evidence Trump pushed claims he knew were false about the 2020 presidential election in an effort to change the election’s outcome.
McConnell had previously laid blame on Trump for Jan. 6 on the Senate floor in February 2021, after the former president was acquitted of inciting an insurrection at his impeachment trial.
“There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day,” McConnell, who voted to acquit Trump because he was no longer in office, said.

If you repeal the 17th then the legislatures could go back to making appointments to the U.S. Senate so people like McConnell could be replaced and dislodged.
It’s nearly impossible to replace incumbent senators. It’s a real problem I think...

Yeah he is totally compromised.
BTW I often withhold comment on posts it doesn’t mean anything. I dont endorse what he says but he’s the most senior elected leader of the GOP so it’s kind of a big deal.
He’s a fellow traveler, following orders.

Is he from the party of self responsibility? Did Trump hypnotize them? I’m confused. At least he hypnotized them to go unarmed, I guess. The costumed guy with the horns on his hat was a nice touch to give the whole insurrection some credibility.
McConnell took bribes from Ukrainian Burmisa and the communist Chinese.
Creatures in the deepest part of the Washington, D.C. Swamp are absolutely intent on destroying the hopes & dreams of everyday Americans.
President Trump is like an avenging angel to these hellish politicos. For their very survival--Trump must be eliminated from the political landscape..
I guess I am not a member of “the entire nation.” McConnell handed the Senate over to the Democrats when he undermined Judge Moore. He would rather have Democrats control the Senate than have a real conservative in office.
McConnell is nothing more than self-serving trash. His various machinations have done more harm to this country than will ever be realized. I spit on him!
