Do we need a new theory of evolution?
The Guardian ^ | 06/28/2022 | Stephen Buranyi

A new wave of scientists argues that mainstream evolutionary theory needs an urgent overhaul. Their opponents have dismissed them as misguided careerists – and the conflict may determine the future of biology

Darwin started utterly unscientifically, by formulating the hypothesis out of his imagination rather than from what evidence exists/existed and then insisting that evidence would appear later. Never mind his claims actually being pilfered from Greek philosophers.

That doesn’t correlate. One cannot study past biological systems because they are dead. And it is unscientific to start with a theory and go in search of evidence for it rather than the other way around.

The only teleological thing in science that I can think of is the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

The theory of how life evolves is constantly evolving as we find new tools to test our new speculations. The gene model can explain very well what proteins are produced to form the structures of living creatures, but it does not explain why certain proteins are deployed in certain cells that coordinate with other cells to form organs and systems. This is the work of the researcher Michael Levin at Tufts University.

So far, it appears there are template instructions at an organism level that use electro-chemical nodes to create the protein patterns that shape the structures to maturity and then shut off. Levin is looking at ways to turn these templates back on to regenerate complex organs like the kidney and heart that have become diseased. The mystery is trying to determine how this information is stored across generations of organisms before the cell DNA even exists.

yeah, it’s call entropy. The constant replication of mitochondrial stem cells. You are in a constant state of rebuilding lost or decaying cells. You are literally not the same person you were seven years ago. We are in a state of decay and start dying the moment we were born.

Old school, mainstream academic, where the grant money is verses the young up and coming crowd.

What really has to happen to make sense of it all is the paleontologists, the archaeologists, the geologists, those you study pre-history need to come together and with the use of computers digitize all of the data, then throw out all preconceived notions, no matter how far out or extreme, all previous ideas have to be reexamined, without bias toward one thing or another, and especially not toward any one grant generating theory or tourist dollars income.

“That doesn’t correlate. One cannot study past biological systems because they are dead.”

Wiki: Evolutionary biology is the subfield of biology that studies the evolutionary processes (natural selection, common descent, speciation) that produced the diversity of life on Earth. Simply, it is also defined as the study of the history of life forms on Earth. Evolution[1] is based on the theory that all species are related and they gradually change over time.

“And it is unscientific to start with a theory and go in search of evidence for it rather than the other way around.”

You misstate. Science FIRST looks at facts, forms a testable hypothesis and then tries to disprove the hypothesis. If it cannot be disproved, it becomes a theory.

I’m trying to put a stop to that.

I’ll let you know in 40 years if it works.

You realize Darwin’s theory of natural selection has long been, for a lack of a better word, destroyed. I suppose there are lazy ass high school biology teachers that still push it and many people think Darwin holds some high stature and everything he wrote is some kind of scientific law. Darwin should be recognized opening this topic of scientific inquiry. That takes about 5 minutes and then more current science should be taught. And when it is taught, it should be taught to be fully understood so people can poke holes in it. That is done without feeling or emotion.

Citing anything on Wiki-anything is argumentum ad verecundiam. And the phrase “evolutionary biology” is an oxymoron, given what such people are looking for and not finding.

And you do not understand science by saying “(i)f it cannot be disproved”, particularly when something has to be proved first. Never mind the principle of falsification, which evolutionary anything violates. None of their hypotheses are testable.

Oh, of course. But that doesn’t stop them from trying to keep the cadaver alive.

Just another sign of the failed education system in America. Thank God I homeschooled my children.

Read the book Darwin’s Black Box .
It explains the eye and blood clotting prove we were created as is and did not evolve.

I think you slept though ninth grade science.

I’m not the one making unscientific statements here.

And they do not teach stuff like you claim to be discussing in ninth grade.

The problem with this whole discussion is that it isn’t really “science” no matter how you approach it. Everything about it is backward-looking, and you simply can’t test predictive statements using any kind of scientific method when you’re dealing with complex organisms and changes that allegedly take place in them over very long periods of time.

No, it disproves itself. Science requires premise, experiment, observation, conclusion, re-phrase premise etc.

It fails the test.

The first “theory” that proves anal intercourse leads to procreation will be declared proof and settled science.

Evolution requires the rise of new traits, not expression of traits already extant.

Things may adapt by selective breeding but long hair for cold environments was already in the genetics. Look at dogs. Or people, things of a king. All adapt based on selection of desired characteristics.

Nothing new.
