Netflix saw its stock tank 25 percent after it reported losing 200,000 subscribers in the company’s first quarter – the sharpest decline in a decade.

“The company’s shares cratered more than 25% in extended hours after the report on more than a full day’s worth of trading volume,” reported CNBC. “Fellow streaming stocks Roku, Spotify and Disney also tumbled in the after-hours market after Netflix’s brutal update.”

With the closing of the second quarter, Netflix is projected to lose 2 million global subscribers. In a letter to shareholders on Tuesday, the company said the company’s content still remains popular but faces stiff competition. It also cited the company cutting off its paid 700,000 membership in Russia for a sharp drop in global subscribers.

They need to lose a lot more.

Stop funding our own demise.

This is the only article posted so far that mentions the cutting off of Russian subscribers.

They added obambam as one of their spokespersons, they’ve increased the Politically Correct portion of their offerings by a thousand percent, and now they’re seeing that getting woke means going broke.

True, but there are also more options now as well, and Netflix raised their prices.

People went to streaming services like Netflix to get away from the utter dreck cable had become.

Streaming services responded by serving up the same kind of dreck that chased people away from cable.

The problem is the writers, they can’t imagine functional people succeeding, so there is nothing inspirational or aspirational about their writing. It all very predictably falls between “soap opera” and “reality show”.

Any time you force them off that you wind up with Hallmark movie type of stories that require insulin shots. It’s either sewer or sappy with nothing in between.

I suspect that other than American subscriptions make up half or more of their subscribers.
Same with all the other American hating companies like FB.

Good points. I was on our local library web site a month ago looking for a particular DVD and found that the library has partnered with a service called “Kanopy” for streaming videos! It’s free for some number of views. I think I get 17 or thereabouts.

I’d never heard of this service until then.

What does Netflix cost? I think it is about $70 per month. I never felt the need to blow money on a leftwing sewage pump. Maybe people should stop paying for Netflix and channel that money into paying off their student loans.

Could opt to get a life?
Stop depending on passive entertainment.
Go camping or sit on a bench and feed pigeons or the like?

I agree the problem is with the writers. Not only can they not imagine functional people succeeding, they cannot imagine functional people. Period. Watch any given program. Nobody talks or acts that way.

Indeed. A character can never be smarter than the person writing it. I’ll let others make the inference with Netflix’s hiring practices.
