Democrats turning out at lower rates than Republicans in Miami

Democrats are turning out at lower rates than Republicans in Florida’s largest county, Miami-Dade, after Democratic nominee Joe Biden's campaign pared down field operations because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Campaign operatives told Politico that door-to-door efforts to persuade voters to jump on the Biden bandwagon were at a standstill and without funding -- despite record-breaking fundraising hauls by the campaign -- for months leading up to the final stretch before Election Day.

“We did not get the kind of funding for different vendors who would do that type of work until late in the campaign,” Rep. Frederica Wilson, who represents Miami’s heavily Black congressional district, told Politico.

In Miami-Dade, 152,964 registered Republicans cast early ballots, leading Democratic voters, 146,371 of whom turned out early to the polls, according to state data on Friday.

Meanwhile, Democrats who mailed in their ballots in the county nearly doubled that of Republicans, 208,803 to 116,040.

To make up for the lag in voter-canvassing efforts in the region, Biden's running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, is hosting an event this weekend to rally young Black men to vote while the NAACP is getting involved in Black churches, which are planning "Souls to the Polls" events on Sunday, according to Politico.

Florida -- the nation's largest swing state -- is considered a must-win for either candidate hoping to sail to victory on Nov. 3.

Biden and President Trump held dueling rallies Thursday to drum up support days before the election, with Trump hosting a Make America Great Again Rally in Hillsborough County in Tampa, while Biden appealed to voters in deep blue Broward County, which boasts 310,000 mostly Democratic Black voters.

Although Black voter turnout is up statewide, pockets of the state have seen lower turnout from Black Democrats than their Republican counterparts

Florida is a state where you can only get an absentee ballot upon request. No unsolicited ballots. There were 1.9 million outstanding mail-in ballots as of yesterday. I'm wondering if procrastination will play a part in the election.

Florida is basically a “must win” for the President.

IMHO if you need campaign stops or debates to help you decide you really don’t need to vote.

procrastination

One of the good pollers (who actually got it right in 2016 and predicted the Trump victory, including the Rust Belt states) had some great comments on this and related topics.

Think of how many people (including each of us) _say_ we are going to do something (that we don't _really_ like doing but will do if we _really_ have to) and then never quite get around to doing it.

It turns out a lot of folks honestly believe they will vote (let us say, for Biden), they tell pollsters they will vote for Biden, and then they get their ballot in the mail.

But, they keep reading all this awful stuff about the guy and his speeches are pathetic and his debate performance was pathetic and....you know...do I really have to vote this time...

and then it just does not happen...

Bonus: They can tell their friends that they voted by mail and sent in the ballot, and nobody will be the wiser....

Imho this is happening with _millions_ of Democrats around the country.

If you take a step back and try to be objective, you will realize that Biden is the weakest Democratic candidate in a generation.

True and there are no “undecided voters” either. If they think they are the they’re brain dead to begin with.

As far as Republicans, Independents or Democrats showing up it’s who their voting for not what they’re party affiliation is and personally I believe there’s far more Independents or Democrats voting for Trump than Republicans and Independents voting for Biden.

Speculation is irrelevant anyway... what happens Tuesday is what matters after they sort out the fraud!

Above twitter link is a video of a post office in Miami-Dade county of what looks to be tons of mail that has been sitting for a week or more unsorted, undelivered with lots of mail in ballots mixed in. Postal inspectors are at the post office.

I agree but the campaign stops are a must to consistently show the difference between the two. One calls for an end to fossil fuels yet insists the 10-15 clueless followers stay in their gas powered cars. The other keeps his voters excited and energized. Trump has 14 stops planned before election. His stamina and abilities show no limits.

Our side doesn’t need campaign stops. At least I don’t. But I love to read about them and YouTube them!

“”””you will realize that Biden is the weakest Democratic candidate in a generation. “””””””””””

Biden is the weakest Democratic candidate in HISTORY.

He has dementia. He is corrupt. He is running on raising taxes, locking down the country, grabbing guns and destroying the economy.

If we had any kind of honest media he couldn’t run for president of his Homeowners Association.

Same with kamel ho.

Misleading title. Reps are leading with IN PERSON voting while the overall early vote isn’t close, Dems ahead handily.

The Dems are not voting for Biden or Harris, they are voting against Trump. The average voter knows all politicians are corrupt. The issue is....which one is going to do the most for me.

Anyone with a brain, not blinded by hate, would vote Trump.

It happened to Romney. He could not inspire people to vote for him, especially his base who he was going all “etcho-sketch” on.

They are not winning handily and will probably behind the GOP in overall EV by the end of this weekend. Hillary had a 85 thousand lead when she went into election day. They may be well under that or behind GOP voters in the next two days.

Yes, but they rely on Miami Dade to have gigantic margins not just bigger ones.

Early voting in person is just that. It’s a measure of souls to the polls. It is also something they always win.

Mail in voting, it was theorized, was the Dems eating their IPV. The Dems hope was that they would get a huge Mail in on top of a huge IPV. But the lag in early IPV is an indication that isn’t the case. Their margins in mail in are being eaten at a steady pace.

94% of democrats voted for Clinton in 2016. 92% of Republicans voted for Trump. Independents went 43-42 to Trump. This is according to Pew. I contend that Trump will do as well among Republicans as he did in 2016. Is the Biden/Harris ticket as popular among Democrats and independents as Clinton was in 2016 (I think Kaine was a non factor, Harris isn’t)? This is where the surprise will come into play.

The data trend is showing the Dems will no doubt be behind where they were in 2016.

Your question:

“Is the Biden/Harris ticket as popular among Democrats and independents as Clinton was in 2016”

Would be a good one for freeper LS.

LS,

Ping to question

My speculation: In liberal Pinellas County, white Trump hating liberals are voting at a high rate. In more Urban cities, blacks are not turning out at high levels because:

1) Biden has a record of incarceration for minorities

2) Covid fear

3) “do I want to risk Covid to vote for Biden ?”

I was reading some of the comments under that post. It seems like most want to blame the postmaster general, they want to blame Trump, they want to blame “evil Republicans” for trying to interfere with the election because the mail isn’t being delivered. Who runs the postal service in this country? Mostly unionized, democrat postal workers. What a crock!

The Democrats always do better illegally than they do legally. Without cheating, the Democrats cannot win. For the sake of out children’s lives and ours, we cannot allow the Democrats to win this time.
