Kentucky's Real Lesson for Conservatives
American Thinker.com ^ | November 7, 2019 | Sally Zelikokovsky

The lesson Republicans and conservatives should take from the Kentucky gubernatorial race is not whether Trump showing up is a net positive or negative or whether the GOP put enough money or effort into the race or whether Bevin should have been the candidate in the first place or whether he was likable. The true lesson lies in the overwhelming success of Kentucky's down-ballot election results for attorney general, agriculture commissioner, auditor, secretary of state, and treasurer, where Republican candidates demolished Democrat candidates by margins of 221,125; 276,319; 204,960; 64,562; and 300,935 votes, respectively. (With the exception of the gubernatorial race, where the Libertarian candidate took 2% of the vote, the Libertarian candidates did not make a difference.)

If Bevin is certified the loser, it will come down to the fact that tens or hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians, who had no problem voting for other Republicans this year and Bevin four years ago, decided to stay home or cast their votes for Democrat Andy Beshear or the Libertarian candidate, John Hicks (who garnered 28,442 votes).

They, not Matt Bevin, are the Kentuckians to blame for the election of Andy Beshear. He hasn't changed. He is the same rough-around-the-edges, somewhat obnoxious carpetbagger he was when he ran four years ago and remained during his tenure as governor of Kentucky and when he was put on the ballot to be re-elected. He made enemies trying to fix the things he was elected to fix — things Republicans and conservatives find important like budgets and unfunded liabilities. Like him or not, he was their guy.

Sounds right to me. In Kentucky teachers still have the good will of the public, and Bevin made enemies of that entire sector.

KY voters aren’t Republicans; they’re conservatives.

So based on this one would say Mitch is the perfect fit for them. Explains a lot.

The real lesson of Kentucky?

Go after the pensions of unionized public school teachers....and they’ll kill ya.

Teachers unions are the closest thing that exists in this country to the old-school Mafia.

The democrats are idiots.

No one can say any more .... any more.

It's all been said ..... it's all been explained.

The time has come (you GO, Kentuckians !) to take the political stand first ..... because we all know what the SECOND is.

Hogwash re: teacher hate of Bevin. The Bevin loss came from vote fraud in “ONLY” two counties located in Louisville and Lexington, KY...period. The face of voter fraud is so overwhelming..it hits you right in the face, the second you study the voting returns and more importantly, the times the votes from these two counties were reported, which was extremely late in the vote counting process...so that the Democrat low life had the time and information as to how many fake votes they would need to create to defeat Matt Bevin!!! GOP, Trump, Bevin, McDaniel, RNC...get on this and never let up...period!!! Get a steel spine and make the Democrats spend millions of bucks defending themselves...until the truth of their fraud is revealed for all to see!!!

Zelikokovsky’s analysis is spot on. Of the choices presented to the KY voters, Bevin was the best. It’s irresponsible to vote for one candidate to spite the other. If you don’t like any of the choices available for a given office write in someone or don’t cast a ballot for that office.

Simplify your choices: never vote for a candidate who’s also a lawyer.

“The Bevin loss came from vote fraud in “ONLY” two counties located in Louisville and Lexington, KY...period. The face of voter fraud is so overwhelming.”

Yeah, but the other races were so one-sided vote fraud wouldn’t be enough.

Why was Bevin and only Bevin close enough for vote fraud to be effective?

I agree with the author: “They, not Matt Bevin, are the Kentuckians to blame for the election of Andy Beshear.”

Idiot voters are to blame. That would include RINO’s who wouldn’t support Bevin.

I assume the establishment GOP did a lot to take Bevin out.

A massive crackdown on dope would serve those KY Liberaltarians right.

Legislatively, he was damn near a perfect conservative. People should have held their nose and voted for him. Of course Kentucky has had plenty of dem governors. Beshear’s father was gov for years.

Yea, once again a “Libertarian” contributed to a Democrat victory.

Think, man.

If the Democrats were going to bother going through that whole exercise of carrying out election fraud, don't you think they would have made sure all the other Republicans running for statewide office would have lost, too?

Does anyone even LIKE Bevin?

It's a silly question when it comes to effective leadership, but it's a damn important question when it comes to an election.

The real lesson is to discourage Libertarians from siphoning off votes from the Republican candidate. Libertarians did not challenge the other state-wide candidates and the results speak for themselves.
